Magnet Middle Win 2015 NASP State Titles
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- White County repeated
as champion in the high school division while Rutherford
County’s Buchanan won the elementary title and Central
Magnet claimed the middle school crown in the Ninth Annual Tennessee National Archery in the Schools Program
(NASP) State Championship.
Close to 1,750 students representing more than 90
schools were registered in the event held at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum which concluded Thursday evening. (Con’t on p. 19)

to a second consecutive championship. CHET, which
participates with home school students in the Nashville
area, was runner-up for the second straight year with
a 3,284. Murfreesboro Oakland was third with 3,253,
Central Magnet was fourth with a 3,241 and Siegel fifth
with 3,235.

2015 Spring Turkey Season April 4-May 17
NASHVILLE --- Tennessee’s 2015 spring turkey season opens on Saturday, April 4 and continues through Sunday, May 17. When
it comes to the forecast for the season, sportsmen can look forward to what is expected to be another good year in terms of harvest
numbers.
“I don’t think anything will change dramatically this season in terms of harvest numbers,” said Roger Applegate, TWRA Turkey Program Coordinator. “By and large, all things point to a stable population. Harvest numbers will fluctuate from year to year.
Despite an opening weekend of inclement weather and on several other weekends across much of the state in 2014, Tennessee
turkey hunters passed the 30,000 harvest mark for the 12th straight year. In fact, the 2014 harvest total last year was 32,495, up six
harvests from the 2013 total of 32,489.
The 2015 Statewide Young Sportsman Hunt was held March 28-29. As harvest numbers continued to come in on Monday, March 30,
the tally stood at 1,062, two ahead of the 2014 final results for the youth hunt.
Dickson County and Maury County each had 46 turkeys harvested during the youth hunt weekend. Hardin County was third with 43
followed by Giles County 38, Hickman County 31, Wilson County 26, Pickett and Sumner County 24, Cheatham and Humphreys 22.
The bag limits include one bearded turkey per day, not to exceed four per season. 26

CHET’s Laurel Thompson repeated as the event’s top female shooter. Laurel had a 291 with 22 shots of 10 to finish
four points ahead of her 2014 winning score of 287. White
County’s Jacklynn Bryant was second with a 289.

The relaxed atmosphere of the BOW workshop is primarily aimed
at women, and is an opportunity for those 18 or older to learn
outdoor skills usually associated with hunting and fishing. However,
the workshop provides useful for other outdoor pursuits and interests. Workshop participants will have a chance to take a variety of
courses over the three days and the classes are taught by experts
in their respective fields. There will be special programs in the pm.

CENTER HILL LAKE
Meadow Park Lake “Old City Lake”, located on City Lake Rd just off Hwy 101 S. in Cumberland County, is a prime fishing
spot for black spotted crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill and shellcrackers. March and April are excellent spring months for
finding crappie and bass on beds. April and May the bluegill and shellcrackers are easily caught using earthworms and crickets.
The lake has yielded 12 & 13 pound catfish in the past couple of years. Grass carp are plentiful and weigh in at around 23 - 27
pounds.
Creek channels and old stream beds are easily located due to the clearness of the water. The lake has had some stocking
and habitat management implemented over the last five years. Both live and artificial baits have proved successful on the lake.
The 300-acre lake is a protected watershed impoundment owned by the City of Crossville. Boats with gasoline motors are
allowed - however, skiing, jet skis, and other personal watercraft are not allowed. There is a special permit fee per person and
ramp that you have to purchase at the lake office if launching a boat. The park has a small campground with full amenities. The
campground boasts a new bath house and RV dumping station. Our new covered boat storage slips have recently been rennovated and slips rent by season, month, or day. You can also enjoy our floating fishing pier. The office has a few boats and some
electric motors to rent, ice, snacks, licenses, fishing tackle, redworms, nightcrawlers, and crickets for sale.
