AIRMIX® spraying with fan
adjustment
Principe
AIRMIX ® (1) was designed to create a new spraying technology which combines the advantages of the conventional
and AIRLESS spraying technologies.
In order to do this, AIRMIX® associates middle pressure spraying and an indirect addition of atomization air (at a very low
pressure), which leads to outstanding fan control. The outcome of this association is a supercharge of air at the locus of
atomization, right after the outflow from the tip, which results in a perfectly controlled and adjustable fan.
(1) AIRMIX® is a registered trademark of KREMLIN.
New AIRMIX® spraying
The new AIRMIX® spraying technology optimises even more the
advantages of conventional and AIRLESS spraying.
with AIRMIX®
The additional air is injected before the locus
of atomization, it results in a very stable fan
and a perfectly even build on all sorts of
parts to be sprayed.
without AIRMIX®
With the other medium pressure systems,
the additional air is injected into or beyond
the locus of atomization, which leads to
turbulent air flows, more overspray and less
finish quality.
The equipment
The AIRMIX® range is designed for manual, automatic and electrostatic spraying. The use of AIRMIX® systems is optimised in a pressure range between 30 and 200 bar, which implies the use of pumps with a pressure ratio between
8 and 40.
A standard AIRMIX® equipment
consists of a pump, a gun and two
hoses.
The pump is equipped with a suction
rod, that is suitable for any container
The gun is connected up to the pump
by two hoses:
• a small diameter, flexible, solventresistant fluid hose,
• an antistatic rubber air hose for the
atomization air.

Pioneer of environmental protection as early as 1975, KREMLIN REXSON has been developing a technology capable of
combining quality of spraying and productivity, altogether with a very high transfer efficiency, to achieve a minimal
overspray. Moreover, the protection The new AIRMIX® concept was developed, bearing customers needs in mind,
bringing many new benefits to the end-user. In addition to the exceptional adaptability offered by the fan adjustment
system, KREMLIN has taken particular care over the ergonomics of the new Xcite™: a user-friendly grip on the handle, a
lightweigth gun, a very soft trigger, better visual control on the application.
The Xcite™ features a fan adjusting system
to keep the same powerful and unsurpassed atomization quality whatever the
shape of the part to be painted.

AIRLESS spraying
Principle
AIRLESS spraying consists in making a fluid pass through a small tip, under high pressure.
Atomization is processed only by this hydraulical pressure and without the need of additional air.
Only one fluid hose feeds the gun. The feeding pump must deliver a pressure comprised between 90 and 60 bar, according to the application.

Paint
The following parameters are essential to achieve the desired quality
finish: viscosity, particle size, fluid pressure, tip
size. The fluid needle of the gun is activated by the trigger that opens
and closes.
The tungsten carbide tip is housed in an insert and fitted in front of the seat.
If you spray quick dry paint or high solid materials, we recommend the use
of a reversible tip to ensure fast unblocking.
The fan only depends on the tip:
 the size of the orifice, expressed by its diameter, determines the tip and associated flow
rates of application;
 the angle at which the tip is milled determines the width of the fan.

The advantages of AIRLESS
 High output
 Low-dilution, high-viscosity products can be sprayed
 Thick coats can be deposited in one passage
 Low overspray
6
The AIRLESS pumps
These pumps suck the material from a container and discharge it through a hose towards the gun, under high pressure.
The pumps operate by piston, their motors are pneumatic- (in most cases), electric- or gas-powered.
Pneumatic piston pumps are equipped with an air motor, which makes the piston reciprocate. They are
defined by the pressure and output of product that they deliver. The product pressure is calculated by
multiplying the incoming air pressure by the compression ratio of the pump. The product output is
calculated by multiplying the maximum number of cycles per minute by the capacity of the pump.
Filtration
Fluid filtration is carried out in several areas of the pump, the fluid passing throug ever finer
element mesh filters to prevent blockages in the tip of the gun:
 The filter at the extremity of the suction rod is immersed in the paint container
 The AIRLESS filter is equipped with a screen that depends on the size of the tip and
filters the product as it flows out of the pump.
 A filter in the handle of the gun completes the product straining process. The usual
mesh size of this filter is about one third the diameter of the tip.
Pressure loss
AIRLESS applications require long hoses and are meant for fairly viscous fluids. The
loss of pressure in the hoses is therefore significant and should always be taken into
account when you are selecting the pressure of the output from the pump.
The AIRLESS tips
There are two types of
tips:
Reversible tips: recommended for quick
unblocking. By manual reversion of the tip during a
few seconds and by pressing the trigger of the gun, the
fluid pressure will drive the blockage out of the tip.
Flat tips: provide you with a very fine, perfectly steady fan
that garantees the absence of “blotching”.

Viscosity
Principle
By raising the temperature of a fluid, you
reduce its viscosity: for instance, heating
paint up to 60° or 80° C will have the
same result as using solvent.
Hot paint spraying is also a good
solution to maintain paints at a regular
temperature, preserving them from the
variations of temperature in a workshop
all and every day.
Schéma 1
Temperature
Apply more paint per pass
As the discharged paint exits the gun , two factors raise the viscosity of the paints.
The accelerated evaporation of the hot solvents and the cooling of the resin. The net
effect is the ability to apply more paint per pass without runs..

KREMLIN’s advice
The speed of circulation is usually adjusted to renew the content of
each hose section every 30 seconds. Given a hose with a diameter of
10mm :
Its internal volume is about 80 cm3 per metre. Now, if we use a pump having a
capacity of 20 cm3, we will have to operate valve 7 or 9 to obtain a rythm of the
pump of four strokes every 30 seconds, that is to say eight strokes per minute.
8
Process
Cold paint is discharged into the heater (4) under the
action of pressure. It is instantly warmed to the selected heat and reaches the spray gun (3) after passing
through the filter (8) at a similar temperature.
Under pressure, the heated paint goes back to the suction valve through the Y-fitting (5) and the fluid hose (6),
which leads to the continuous circulation of the heated
paint throughout the installation.
This circulation process can be controlled by operating
the circulation valve (7) or the back pressure regulator
(9). However, using circulation too intensively is useless and might also damage the packings ensuring
the pump tightness. Do not forget that their lifespan is
based on the total volume of paint that has circulated
throughout the pump. It is always the same volume of
paint, inside the hoses, that is heated. The paint in the
container (2) remains cold.
Schema 1
Example of configuration with One-Pass hot spraying
Schema 2
Example of configuration with HP, BD and AD hot spraying
As soon as the operator presses the trigger of the gun,
hot paint flows out from the tip, which increases the flow
rate: the pump (1) automatically sucks an equivalent
unit of cold paint to be heated. But the temperature on
the level of the gun remains unchanged since this unit
of paint is instantly heated while passing through the
heater (4). Whether the operator uses the system or
not, it will ensure the delivery of hot paint to the gun.

Examples of hot paint application
1. Thick coating material -
2. Medium diluted paint.
3. Medium diluted paint.
Hot spraying between 60°C (140°F)
and 70° C (158°F)
Hot spraying between 60°C (140°F)
and 70° C (158°F)
Hot spraying between 30°C (86°F) and
40° C (104°F)
It makes it possible to spray paint without
diluting it. It cools as soon as it leaves
the gun and regain it original thicker
consistency when deposited.
Paint becomes extremely fluid.
The viscosity of the paint is slightly
reduced.
Only one pass is necessery, even when
you apply thicker materials, which
implies: lesser risk of runs - a glossier
film - a less porous covering - no dilution
costs - less pollution due to the use of
solvents - greater facility to keep the film
dustfree - the ideal system to use when
the operator lacks experience.
Therefore it can be sprayed at very low
pressure. Besides, a major part of the
solvents evaporates as the paint leaves
the gun: its viscosity increases when
it is deposited on the part at ambient
temperature.
Less overspray - less loss of paint- lesser risk of runs - greater facility to keep
the film dust-free - improved healthiness
in the workshop - better temperature
regulation - greater security of application.
A lesser quantity of the solvents evaporates. Paint begins to cool as it leaves
the gun.
There is more security with this sort of
application, because the temperature
of the heated paint remains unchanged
whatever the time in the day or the
season may be - Keeping the film dustfree is also highly facilitated.

AIRMIX® Flowmax® pumps
SELECTION TABLE - FLOWMAX®
PUMPS
xclusive precisely machined SuperLife Bellows replaces the traditional leaky
E
packings
l Delivers a wide range of pressures without the use of fluid regulators
l The fluid inlet is located on the upper end of the fluid section making the pump
easier to service
l Contains single lip seals with automatic wear take-up for high up-time and
minimal maintenance
l Unique SuperQuiet air motor changeover with very high and reliable performance
l All stainless steel fluid sections suitable for a wide variety of fluids
l Easy access to wearing parts due to a tie rod free design
l
The exclusive Flowmax® SuperLife Technology is available only with Kremlin Rexson. Nothing of
similar pressure and fluid output in the piston pump design outperforms the Flowmax® SuperLife
technology. Flowmax® pumps substantially outlast standard piston pumps using self-adjusting
seals. In addition there is no lubricant cup, thus eliminating packings. In sum, this is a packing-free
pump that performs quietly with minimal service. Nothing Compares !

KREMLIN's advice
Choosing the nozzle is best done by crossing the desired width
of the fan at a distance of 30cm/12 inches with the given output
of water at 140 bar/2000psi. If your ideal output lies between two
of the values, we would recommend that you opt for the higher
of the two output values.

Tip guards and tips AIRLESS
l
KREMLIN's advice
Good quality spraying depends on the condition of the tip.
Regularly replacement of the tip ensures a consistent fan
pattern.
Any overuse of tips will result in an oval-shaped outlet forming,
which creates two major problems :
- Reduced width of fan, with fluid heavily concentrated in the
centre
- Higher fluid output.
