Autrans Expands Ingersoll Facility
In this issue: Autrans Expands Ingersoll Facility Ingersoll Joins SOMA Mission to Asia All Smiles with Charles Street Dental Ingersoll Products Introduces the MUDGUN™ 2015 Permit Review Autrans Expands Ingersoll Facility Autrans Corporation has recently completed an expansion of their facility at 17 Underwood Road in Ingersoll, Ontario. Construction, which began in the winter of 2015, was completed this spring. Autrans Corporation, a division of the Japanese Sojitz Corporation, began operations in Ingersoll in 1990. Originally serving as a warehousing and logistics company supporting regional automotive plants, by the end of the 1990s the company had expanded its mandate to include supplying in-sequence, value added assembly products to the then GM/Suzuki CAMI automotive plant in Ingersoll. Today, Autrans Corporation continues its partnership with GM’s CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll and GM’s Oshawa assembly plant, supplying General Motors Canada with super modules (complete frontend chassis/powertrain) for their Equinox and Terrain models. With the success of GM’s Equinox model and the automaker’s continued investment in GM CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll, auto part suppliers, such as Autrans Corporation, are looking to expansion in order to better serve the automaker’s production lines. The expansion of Plant 2, Autrans Ingersoll’s warehousing facility, involved the addition of 25,000 square feet to the company’s existing 125,000 square foot operation. The expansion of Plant 2 also saw a number of facility upgrades including the installation of a new electrical system, upgrades to the existing ventilation system, and the revamping of the building’s exterior. With a workforce of over 450 employees, increased warehousing capacity and the recent addition of a sixth assembly line, Autrans Corporation is well positioned for the future. www.autranscanada.com Mayor Comiskey with Kenichi Tazumi, Sojitz Corporation President of Autrans, Japan Mayor Comiskey with Takahiro Honda, Director of Metal One/Coilplus in Japan. Ingersoll Joins SOMA Mission to Asia In November of 2015, representatives from the Town of Ingersoll travelled to Japan and South Korea as part of the Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance’s (SOMA) economic mission to Asia. Mayor of Ingersoll Ted Comiskey and Kale Brown, Director of Economic Development for the Town of Ingersoll, travelled as part of the mission to attract new foreign investment to the region and strengthen bonds with existing investors. As part of SOMA, a regional alliance of municipalities aimed at developing and growing the region’s industrial base, representatives from the Town of Ingersoll had the opportunity to meet with both current and prospective investors, as well as with several government development agencies and national industry associations in both Japan and South Korea. The two countries are identified as strategic partners as both share a strength in advanced manufacturing which aligns to the goals of the SOMA organization and its participating municipalities. While in Japan, town representatives had the opportunity to meet with the directors of the Metal One Corporation, the parent company of Ingersoll’s Coilplus Canada Inc., as well as with the directors of Sojitz Corporation, the parent company of Ingersoll’s Autrans Corporation. The result of these meetings is the planned expansion of 30,000 square feet of industrial space, as well as the recently completed industrial expansion of 25,000 square feet—both projects representing over $6 million dollars in investment. In addition to attending meetings with current investors, representatives also had the opportunity to meet directly with thirteen prospective investors, as well as had the opportunity to host a number of other potential investors at three information events held during the mission. The Town of Ingersoll, as a member of the Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance, aims to attract and expand foreign investment in the industrial sectors of automotive parts and assembly, advanced manufacturing, food processing, green manufacturing, and plastics and composites manufacturing. www.somasite.com While it may have seemed like a strange fit opening a dental office in a former fast food restaurant, with ample parking, great visibility and a central location, Budd and Steele recognized the property’s potential. All Smiles with Charles Street Dental Providing quality dental care for the whole family, Charles Street Dental opened its doors to clients in Ingersoll this February. The clinic, located at 59 Charles Street East, is owned and operated by Dr. Michelle Budd and Dr. Shawn Steele. Having worked for a time in Ingersoll following their graduations from dental school, both Budd and Steele were keen to return to the community. A vacant property on Charles Street East presented the team with a unique opportunity to not only improve the face of Ingersoll’s downtown, but also the smiles of its residents. The property, a former Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise, had sat vacant for several years before being purchased by Budd and Steele in February of 2015. The team began renovating the building in the summer of 2015, with interior work being completed early 2016. Exterior work was put on hold during the fall and winter; however, with spring here, the team expects the exterior of the building to be completed in the next few months. Once completed, the project will see 2,000 square feet of vacant commercial space converted into a modern dental office complete with four dental operatories, a sterilization centre, a reception and waiting room area, a laboratory, and office space. With a modern, fully digital office and a caring team of dental professionals to manage your dental and oral health, Charles Street Dental is excited to be part of the Ingersoll community. Join Dr. Budd, Dr. Steele and their team this summer for an open house celebrating the completion of their office. www.charlesstreetdental.ca Ingersoll Products Inc. Introduces the MUDGUN ™ Producing quality tools for the professional contractor and the do-it-yourselfer since 1976, Ingersoll Products Inc. introduces the latest product in its tool range – the MUDGUN TM. The culmination of five years of research and development, The MUDGUN TM is a drywall mud application tool that allows users to achieve professional results with minimal effort. Designed with ease of use in mind, The MUDGUN TM allows users to apply a steady, even coat of mud with one pass. The application of an even coat of mud means less additional work in the form of multiple coats, sanding, and clean up. To accompany The MUDGUN TM, Ingersoll Products Inc. has developed The MUDPAK TM, a tubed drywall compound with a lower viscosity for smooth, even application. The patented tubed compound has a longer shelf life than traditional products and can be stored unused for up to three years without separating. Unlike other drywall mud application methods which require clean up between coats, when not in use The MUDGUN TM and MUDPAK TM can be placed in water until it is ready to be used again. Having partnered on other projects with firms such as 3M and Norton, Ingersoll Products Inc. will be bringing The MUDGUN TM to market with Hyde as its distribution partner in North America, New Zealand, and Australia. Customers can expect to find the product on the shelves of local home improvement stores before 2017. Producing a variety of tools and products for the professional contractor, as well as the do-it-yourselfer for over 40 years, Ingersoll Products Inc. continues to expand its range of quality tools with the introduction of The MUDGUN TM.
