Exam Exemption Policy
Students will be given this form in second period to take to their teachers for exemptions. Students are
encouraged to keep a copy of this form for their own record. Academic eligibility will be based on
current course grade in each individual class as of December 12. 2014 and no grades beyond that date.
Completing and submitting this form does not guarantee that the student will be exempted.
Administration will be verifying grades and attendance. Teachers will be notified by administration of
students who have been given final approval to exempt finals. Students should check with teachers as
final exams approach.
Based on the following criteria, each high school student may earn
In order to be eligible for exemption, students must have:
•
Students with (3) or fewer excused absences (per course) and a final grade of 90% or higher.
•
Students with (2) or fewer excused absences (per course) and a final grade of 80 % or higher.
•
Students with (4) or more excused absences (per course) will not be exempt.
•
Satisfactory in conduct.
•
Not served any time in ISS/OSS/DAEP during the semester.
•
Any unexcused absence (no note in file) disqualifies student from exemption.
•
Teachers reserve the right to deny exemptions on other more stringent classroom criteria, such
as excessive tardiness, fines, fees, etc.

return it to the main office on or prior to the deadlineParents: Before signing this waiver, please read the following:
Exempting exams is a reward for satisfactory or better academic progress. It is widely recognized that
students benefit from the study skills practiced when preparing for semester exams similar to those
used in post-secondary schools. Students who choose to exempt their exams may forgo the opportunity
to improve their exams and earning higher grades. Even when eligible, students have the option not to
use the exam exemption. All final exam exemptions require parent permission.
*Partial day, doctor-excused absences do not count against a student's attendance. Full day doctor
excused absences do count against attendance; therefore, if at all possible, students should come to
school before the a p p o i n t m e n t , or return after for a partial day.
Extenuating circumstances for exemptions are left to the discretion of the principal.
Parents are encouraged to contact the principal early in the year if there is going to be an
issue that could affect exemptions. Applications will be available in the front oHlce towards
the end of each semester. Applications will NOT be accepted late.

Q&A About Final Exam Exemptions
Q: I was absent the day I was supposed to turn in the form?
A: Please plan ahead. No forms will be accepted after the due date. Forms may be faxed to the front office
the due date.
Q: IVIy teacher has been absent, and I cannot get the form signed?
A: Seek assistance from an administrator on how to proceed prior to the deadline. No forms will be accept
after the due date.
Q: I have met the grade requirements, but I have many excused and/or unexcused absences
to class?
A: Students with (4) or more excused absences (per course) does not qualify to exempt any
finals. Any unexcused absence (no note in file) does not qualify to exempt any finals, *
Q: If I have a D's or F's in any of my classes, do I qualify to exempt a final even if I have A's In
the rest of my classes?
A: Only students with an 80% or better (per course) will be eligible to request approval to
exempt that course final.
. Q: If I have served ISS or OSS during the semester, do I qualify to exempt a final if I meet all the other
requirements?
A: No, if you have served any time in ISS or OSS during the semester, you do not qualify to exempt any finals.
Q: My teacher signed my form and I submitted it to the front office before the due date. Does this mean, I
will exempt that final?
A: No, the final word of final exam exemption comes from administration after attendance and grades have
been verified. A list of approved exemptions will be emailed to teachers prior to the first final exam. Teachers
will inform students as to whether or not students were approved to exempt finals.
•Student must have a parent note, doctor's or dentist's slip submitted to the
main office on or before (3) school days from absence.
