s e t y B e l e T “Your Cooperative Link” Vol. 096 ♦ August 2016 2nd Annual Maxwell Road Endless Yard Sale Planned for August 13 If you are an avid “Yard Sale Shopper”, you won’t want to miss this spectacular event! With miles upon miles of yard sale finds, crafts, miscellaneous vendors and food booths on the winding back country road which connects Kitty Fork in Sampson County and Fayetteville in Cumberland County, everyone is sure to find something they must purchase! In Sampson County, the road once known by “all the locals” as simply “1006”, starts out as High House Road, when it crosses Hwy. 242 the name changes to Maxwell Road, and again, when it crosses Hwy. 24, it becomes Clinton Road. In talking with Sherri Bostic, “The Maxwell Road Endless Yard Sale” was born last year out of necessity to help offset family medical bills of Mrs. Bostic. “The Maxwell Road Endless Yard Sale” is fashioned after other national and regional “endless” yard sales, which draw shoppers from all over the United States. After the huge success of last year’s yard sale, Mrs. Bostic said, “We just couldn’t give it up after one year! My family was immensely blessed last year by the proceeds of the yard sale and hopefully, as with last year, this year’s yard sale will let others share in the blessing!” The yard sale will “kick off” at 7:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 13, and will last until all vendors pack up. For more information visit Facebook and search for “Maxwell Road Endless Yard Sale” or contact Sherri Bostic at 910-990-0415. School will soon be starting! Be on the lookout for stopped school busses and children crossing the roads you travel. Always think safety first! From Your Kitchen Ranking ninth in the nation for peach production, North Carolina produces an average of 35 million pounds of fruit annually for the fresh market. Presently, most peaches grown in North Carolina are sold at roadside retail outlets. Regardless of where you get your peaches…at your local roadside stand, your back yard or your grocery store…a succulent, juicy, ripe peach is hard to pass up as a snack, in a dessert, in preserves, in ice cream or in a salsa! This month’s recipe is a simple Fresh Peach Cake. Serve with a scoop of ice cream or fresh whipped cream and you will have a dessert fit for family or guests! Enjoy! Fresh Peach Cake 1/2 cup butter 1 1/2 cups brown sugar 2 cups flour 1 tablespoon flour 1 cup buttermilk 1 egg 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/8 teaspoon salt 2 1/2 cups fresh peaches, peeled and diced 1/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cream butter, add sugar and add egg. Add flour, soda, salt and milk and beat until smooth. Gently fold in peaches. Pour into greased and floured 13x9 pan. Mix cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
