YOUMAKE IT POSSIBLE
DCCH Center for Children and Families has been providing
compassionate care and quality services to children in
Northern Kentucky since our founding in 1848.
When we opened our doors as St. John’s Orphan Society, donors provided the initial $62.50 in
capital. One hundred sixty-six years later, thanks to you, our donors, DCCH is still serving children
and families in need! You provide the �inancial support that supplies daily necessities like food,
clothing and shelter to Kentucky’s most vulnerable children. You help underwrite the cost of our
top-ranked Residential Treatment Program and daily therapy sessions. You send our children to
the Zoo and give them birthday gifts. You help children make lasting life changes!
A few other ways you have made a difference:
Referrals for placement in our Residential Treatment program have nearly quadrupled in the last three
years. Your continued support allowed us to expand our living spaces and care for more children per year.
Your donations to DCCH provided daily therapy sessions for our children. Our full time, Masters’ Level
therapists teach our children the coping skills needed to recover from their traumas and break the cycle
of abuse.
Generous support of our Summer Appeal fed each of our 40 children three meals a day for an entire
month! You also provided Respite Care for foster families; put shoes on the feet of all our children; made
sure each child received a birthday gift and purchased books for our classrooms and library.

Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Friends of DCCH,
As many of you are aware, I am leaving DCCH Center for Children and Families at the end
of the calendar year to assume a leadership position with the Sisters of Notre Dame. This
is my last opportunity to thank you. I thank God every day for putting into our lives such
good friends as you. Your support and involvement with our children and families during
my tenure as the Executive Director has made a tremendous impact on my
life and a difference in their lives. I thank you for your support and belief in
our mission; but most importantly, I thank you for your many prayers.
I am pleased to present the DCCH Center for Children and Families
2013-2014 Annual Report. This report serves as an outline of our services
and programs, describes the impact they have on the lives of our children
and families, shows the unmatched talent of our staff, and measures our
dedication to continuously improve the quality of services.
Throughout the report within each outcome and success, one theme consistently
emerges. DCCH continues to exemplify excellence in action. We hold
ourselves to the highest standards in all that we do. This is evidenced in the
service we provide. The results can be seen in the faces of children who have found a
family to love them unconditionally; by the academic success achieved by children with
special education needs; and in the peace of mind gained by children and families who
have experienced improved mental health.
Our goal for �iscal year 2014-2015 is to explore opportunities to diversify services that
will provide both supplemental funding streams and an excellent continuum of care for
those we serve. We also await con�irmation of our re-accreditation by the Council of
Accreditation for Children and Families, a prestigious honor that DCCH has successfully
been awarded in the past and is a requirement for State certi�ication.
We present this annual report to you as a testimony of our good stewardship and commitment
to excellence. I invite you to get involved and become part of our excellence in action.

it’s good to know people, like you, care. I was adopted at the age of
two and my biological parents left me. Since then, I’ve lived in five
different places, and sometimes it’s just really hard. It’s people like

Family Services
• To provide quality case management that matches each child to a loving foster or adoptive family.
• To provide culturally sensitive therapy that meets each family’s needs.
• To provide multi-cultural training and education to families.
• To recruit new foster-to-adopt families that will promote and instill the values of our agency.
• To develop a family friendly agency with an emphasis on reunifying families and assisting state
of�icials in establishing permanency for each child.
• To continue to look at new programs and family based services to expand our continuum of care.
• To maintain positive relationships and referral sources to ensure future placement opportunities.
• We value the family unit and acknowledge that each child in our care is part of a family system;
therefore, we work with the family when in the best interest of the client system.
Pillars of DCCH
In an effort to de�ine what we are all about, in language that is understood by all, the staff and Board
began a process to identify our core values. The process began in late 2003 and culminated with the
development of �ive Pillars.
Our �ive core “Pillars” are:
Children’s Services
• To lead a well trained staff in the supervision and care of our children.
• To provide a safe and family oriented environment for our children, through the use of effective
behavioral management techniques.
• To provide ongoing mental health assessments and treatment through individual and
group therapy.
• To provide recreational activities for the health and well-being of our children.
• To develop tools to evaluate our agency, to assess the quality of existing programs, and explore the
need for new services for our children.
• To educate our children in a setting that is conducive to each child, teaching the intellectual, social,
and multi-cultural skills needed to be successful.
• To provide K-8 education preparation toward secondary education in a protective environment.
• To prepare/educate about the “Forever Family”; foster care and adoption.
• To study outcomes related to goals and pursue continuous quality improvement (CQI) related to
program improvement.
Community
• To celebrate with the community the success of our history, our present, and our future.
• To provide opportunity to the community to support the mission of DCCH, through continued
development of annual appeals and events.
• To broaden the size of our constituents through effective networking of current and prospective members.
• To continue to join efforts in setting legislative agendas to advocate for children and families.
• Utilize the talents of our Board and Development Foundation to enhance the mission of DCCH.
• To develop effective communication techniques that provides meaningful information on the
success and mission of DCCH.
• To promote a variety of volunteer opportunities to engage our publics.
Staff Development
• To offer effective and continuous training and supervision for our staff.
• To insure that our education and training programs exceed regulatory requirements.

Fiscal Accountability
• To achieve �inancial credibility through compliance with annual audits and timely payment of invoices.
• To develop accurate budgets that have clearly de�ined areas of accountability.
• To develop and maintain investment strategies that maximize return while also maintaining an
appropriate level of risk as outlined in our investment policies.
• Continue to enhance relationships with current revenue sources, as well as explore other sources
of revenue.
• To maintain internal controls that follow “generally acceptable accounting” principles, which
provide an accurate view of �inancial records.
• To be good stewards of our �inances in order to provide quality care to the children and families
whom we serve.
• To strengthen its efforts to engage the community to support our mission.
• To follow the accepted standards of fund raising.
PILLARS OF DCCH
Pillars of DCCH -
DCCH Center for Children and Families offers long-term treatment for emotionally and behaviorally
challenged children in small group living arrangements. We provide care for boys and girls, ages six
through 14 in our Residential Treatment Program (RT). Expanded capacity allows us to serve 40
children, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Services include apartment living, counseling, recreation
and special education at Guardian Angel School, located on the DCCH campus. The RT program
serves on average nearly 100 children per year.
Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption (TFC) differs from traditional foster care in that children
placed in TFC have more challenging needs. Our program provides extensive training to prospective
foster parents, counseling and treatment for children and support services to families. The goal of
TFC is for children to be reunited with their birth families. When this is not feasible, TFC families are
generally given the opportunity to formally adopt. There are currently 42 children in TFC placements.
The Therapy Center at DCCH continues our tradition of providing the highest quality care to
children and families. The Therapy Center at DCCH provides services to children, adolescents, adults
and families including individual psychotherapy; psychological evaluation; intelligence testing (IQ)
and various measures of behavior; developmental level and personality assessment; therapy for
children with medically complex issues; ADHD evaluations; expressive art therapy and more.
SHARING

DCCH’s Training Center provides professional trainings for DCCH Staff and partner agencies. Our
direct care Staff members complete over 40 hours of training annually and are up to date on the best
methods and practices to treat and heal our children. The Training Center offers �irst aid training,
CPR certi�ication and continuing education for social workers and companies in the Northern
Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati community,

Performance Indicators
DCCH Center for Children and Families is so thankful for the support from our community.
We would be unable to provide the level of care needed by our children without the generous
support of our donors. Following are areas of performance of DCCH identi�ied to demonstrate
good stewardship of your support.
Accreditation – DCCH is accredited by the Council of Accreditation for Children and Families (COA).
DCCH has been accredited since 1990. Our current accreditation is valid through 2014. We went
through the accreditation process again in 2014.
Referral Summary
• 58% Increase in Therapeutic Foster Care Referrals
• 47% Increase in Residential Treatment Referrals
• 61% male, 39% female for residential treatment
• 12 – Average age of referrals
Occupancy
• 99% (note: in February 2013 we added six beds Residential Treatment.
We have been at capacity since April 2013)
• 97 children were served in Residential Treatment in 2013, (37% increase from 2012)
Average Length of Stay
• 300 days which is a 18% increase from 2012
Discharges
• 83% of discharges are to less-restrictive, home-like settings
Seclusions
• 34 minute-average length of time out placement, 8% decrease from 2012
Recreation
• Increased number of therapeutic activities offered to children including Equine Therapy.
Staff Training
• 135 in house training opportunities, 406 hours of total training
• Met more than 93% of goals
• Recruited 5 additional training outlets
• Provided 40 trainings to community partners for 204 total hours

Our Mission:
The mission of DCCH Center for Children and Families is to express God’s
love by providing compassionate care and quality services to address the
physical, spiritual and emotional needs of children and families.
Our Vision:
DCCH Center for Children and Families will be the preferred provider of
�lexible, adaptive and the highest quality family-centered care in a safe
environment. We will increase awareness in the community and expand
funding sources to ensure the long-term �inancial viability of a
state-of-the-art facility.
Our Goals:
Our goals are to assess, stabilize, treat, and educate children and their
families while facilitating changes in relationships, attitudes and behavior.
Through a continuum of support and assistance, we strive to establish them
into a family setting, as well as develop them into productive, self-con�ident
members of the community.
Accreditation and Memberships
DCCH Center for Children and Families has been providing social services in
Kentucky since 1848. DCCH Center is a United Way Agency Partner and is
accredited by the Council on Accreditation. We are a member of the
Children’s Alliance and Foster Care Cooperative.
