To correct this misconception, several states have issued Bulletins or Consumer Alerts (see Florida Consumer Alert below). To help with any confusion surrounding the Congressional changes to Medicare Supplement that will be implemented in January 2020, here are the facts: yy Effective January 1, 2020, Medicare Supplement plans that include the Part B Deductible will no longer be available. yy Effective January 1, 2020, Agents will be prohibited from selling Medicare Supplement plans that cover the Part B Deductible. yy The prohibitions will apply only to those who become enrolled in Medicare and want to get a Medicare Supplement policy on or after January 1, 2020. yy Current policyholders, and those enrolling in Medicare prior to January 1, 2020, will not be affected by this change, and do not need to replace their policy to retain their benefits. FLORIDA CONSUMER ALERT TALLAHASSE, Fla. – The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (office) wants to remind Medicare recipients with an existing Medigap Plan C or F that they can keep their plan. Consumers may have heard about congressional changes in the Medicare Access CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015, which only applies to newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries and prohibits the sale, renewal, or retention of these plans starting in 2020. However, these changes do not prohibit the sale of Medigap Plans C or F to people who were already eligible or enrolled in Medicare before 2020; therefore, current enrollees do not need to replace their Medigap Plan C or F and may keep it as long as they maintain eligibility and remain enrolled in the plan. Prior permission must be obtained from the Home Office for reproduction or other use of material herein. 2 FINAL EXPENSE AND JUVENILE WHOLE LIFE RATE CARD UPDATES Effective immediately, United American and First United American will offer ‘Money Purchase’ rates as well as face amount rates on its Final Expense Whole Life and Juvenile Whole Life rate cards. Premium calculators have also been updated to show ‘Money Purchase’ rates. Updated rate cards and premium calculators can be found on your State Compliance sheet, in states where product is approved. JANUARY 2016 MADP 2016 SEASON FINALE ANOTHER MEDICARE ADVANTAGE WITHDRAW IN NEW YORK Effective Jan. 1, 2016, Touchstone Health HMO, Inc. in New York will no longer be offering coverage of Medicare Advantage benefits in the following service areas: Bronx, Queens, Kings, Richmond, New York, Westchester, and Orange counties. Approximately 10,000 Touchstone Health HMO enrollees have the opportunity to return to Original Medicare and could be in the market for a quality First United American Medicare Supplement plan. CMS requires MA organizations to send a letter of termination notifying affected customers when their plan will end. This is a great opportunity for Agents in New York to ‘light the way’ to a First UA Medicare Supplement policy for seniors who choose to return to Original Medicare for their healthcare needs. As a reminder, First United American requires the following when submitting a Medicare Supplement application on those affected by the termination of a MA plan. yy For applicants involuntarily dis-enrolled from their prior coverage a copy of their termination letter is required. Remind prospects not to discard notification letters regarding termination. yy For affected applicants who no longer have their termination notification letter, a copy of their Medicare Advantage ID card is required with a statement that the termination notification letter is no longer available. yy A letter of intent is not accepted for involuntary terminations. To ensure applications do not pend, applications must have the above stated document/s and must state whether they were voluntarily or involuntarily disenrolled. LIFESTYLE ANNUITY RATE The lifestyle annuity rate for December 2015 is 3.00%. We are not approved to sell the SPDA product in CO or NY. I like the good guys to win, the bad guys to get what’s coming to them, and for everyone else to resolve whatever problems they’ve been struggling with all season. I like real-life scenarios to end that way, too. The good thing about the storylines that make up our day-today lives is that they are largely in our control, dictated by our choices: the people we surround ourselves with, the work we do, whether we go the extra mile, the decision to help others in need of guidance and support. Every single day we write our own scripts with the choices we make. IT’S ALMOST A WRAP In these final weeks of the 2016 Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP), which ends on Feb. 14th, it’s important to remember that it’s up to you to decide how your MADP season will end. Are you a ‘Survivor’? It’s not too late to ‘Get Smart’ and find new ways to reach the thousands of Seniors who can be helped with a UA ProCare Medicare Supplement Insurance Policy. Get out of ‘The Office’ and follow every lead like a ‘True Detective’. Today’s ‘Modern Family’ is multigenerational, providing lots of opportunity to spinoff from your Medicare Supplement presentation and to introduce another great UA product. Your career will never be in ‘Jeopardy’ when you’re always prepared with a full portfolio of UA products. SPOILER ALERT! I’m not naming any names, but early results show that 2016 MADP will be a phenomenal selling season for many of our Agents. One reason for this, other than plain old hard work, is that the changing landscape of healthcare in this country is creating an incredible opportunity for the Agent who becomes a trusted guide to clients. stop your story.” I agree, and as we make our way through the next few weeks leading up to our MADP season finale on Feb. 14th, my advice is simple: Don’t stop your story until the very end. And when it’s over, we’ll celebrate your finest MADP season yet. ‘Cheers.’ In the last few months, several healthcare companies throughout the country have announced that after 2015, they’ll no longer offer Medicare Advantage plans, leaving thousands of beneficiaries to decide whether to return to Original Medicare or choose a Medicare Advantage plan from a different company. It’s a big cliffhanger, isn’t it? IN CONCLUSION There’s still plenty of time left in MADP for you to find Seniors who want and need the insight and advice of a great Agent to help them choose a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan that’s right for them. When the contest’s top performer couldn’t accept the prize due to a scheduling conflict, the honor went to Tom Payant. Tom and his wife, Robyn, flew from their home state of Florida to Dallas, where they enjoyed a December weekend of football, fine dining, and sightseeing with their host, Senior Vice President Charles Mankamyer. “ What an awesome time we had in Dallas with Chuck! Everything was first class! Chuck treated us like royalty throughout the weekend. It was an experience of a lifetime! The weekend began when the limo picked us up at the airport on Friday. Chuck met us at the hotel and we were taken to the Ritz Carlton, where we had a wonderful dinner with wonderful company. On Saturday we spent the day with Chuck touring downtown Dallas. We went to a beautiful restaurant called the Savoy Restaurant in the heart of Dallas. After lunch we spent time visiting the open park and enjoying a crisp sunny afternoon before the limo picked us up for the big game. We had so much fun! The Dallas Cowboys game was fantastic, as we were sitting on the 50 yard line! The stadium was beyond overwhelming! Thank you for such a great weekend, and to top it off, it was Robyn's 60th birthday! She will always remember where she was and who she was with on her 60th birthday. Chuck showed he really cared, and before the weekend was up, we were best friends for life. Thank you for the time of our life! ” ROBYN AND TOM PAYANT MADP 2016 SEASON FINALE JANUARY 2016 5 SYNOPSIS: The end of the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period is fast approaching (Feb. 14) and the healthcare needs of thousands of Seniors hang in the balance. How will they choose their provider? Will they select another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement Insurance policy? Will UA and First UA Agents find them in time to show them all the great ways a ProCare Medicare Supplement policy can meet their needs? Agents, only you can decide how MADP 2016 will end for you and the Seniors you serve. But, remember, the Home Office staff is standing by like a great supporting cast as you take the lead in making this MADP a season to remember. Use the following closing suggestions to help bring each case to a successful conclusion. 2016 SEASON FINALE Closing is where your job starts. Don’t fall apart at this point asking questions such as, “Well, what do you think?” You’re asking for a contract, not an opinion. EXAMPLE OF A GOOD CLOSING SCENARIO:* When quoting cost, two or three options are best. 1 It empowers your prospect (It's their choice) 2 It removes the no. (One option is a choice….. yes or no) 3 It allows the client to think how much they may need (instead of whether they need it or not) So, you’ve just shown your prospects plans F and HDF. After you finish your presentation you say: “And, the nice thing is the cost. Give me a moment to prepare that for you.” As you look up rates, make small talk. Silence can be deadly. Write out the two plans showing the monthly premium. “For you and your spouse the entire cost is … (show them the two plans as you’ve written them out.) That’s it! After seeing the many benefits of our Medicare Supplement Insurance, which plan would you prefer?” Break eye contact, look at the quotes, nod in the affirmative, and wait. Stay closed. Remember, the person who speaks first usually determines the outcome of the sale. Once they’ve made a choice it’s time to… *THIS GUIDE PROVIDES TIPS FOR SUCCESS. For example, contract in March and the Agent life/health requirement is 10 months or $125,000 of combined NAP. Minimum NAP for an Agent who contracts in June is six months or $75,000 combined NAP. Agents must be contracted and produce at a six-month minimum production level to be eligible for Convention. Non-standard (Disability) Medicare Supplement production will not count towards qualification for Convention, Awards or Club honors.
