o THE CILENTO

Land of myths and legends,from the latin “Cis
Alentum”, land on this side of the river
Alento. Those approaching the Cilento for the
first time will have the feeling of being in a
new world and not the continuation of the
Amalfi Coast. It is a reality that has retained
all its peculiarities and traditions that may
appear at times difficult to understand.

Myths and legends are linked together and often
our Christian roots reveal notes of pagans and
vice versa. Climbing the sacred mountains and
following the paths of the hermits and Byzantine
monks, you will approach primordial rites,
related to water, trees and stones. To discover
this earth is a gift that everyone should give
himself. It 'a land that captures you, it
fascinates, it remains bewitched in a crescendo of
feverish curiosity that never satisfies.
o THE NATIONAL PARK OF CILENTO
The Park includes 80 municipalities and covers 181.048
hectares of protected land, of inestimable value, is a
classic example of 'harmonious integration between the
work of man and the natural environment of the
Mediterranean, from the Paleolithic to the present day.
The Coastal Zone is typically Mediterranean, with a
succession of bays: small sandy beaches or steep cliffs and
headlands with defense Normanno-Aragonesi towers .
Numerous medieval settlements preserve an artistic
heritage of immense value: chapels, churches, palaces ,
castles
and
cottages
are
set
in
naturalistic
uncontaminated settings. The archaeological sites of
Paestum and Velia, the Certosa di Padula, are part of the
sites included in UNESCO’S world Heritage' sites. Among
the peaks of the Park, we find Mount Cervati the highest
in Campania(1898m), then follow Monte Sacro or
Gelbison, Alburni , Monte Stella and Bulgheria.

feuture of theAlburni that have given rise to
numerous caves, such as those of Castelcivita
and Pertosa
o FOOD FROM THE CILENTO
Furthermore the Cilento is home of the
Mediterranean Diet. Here the well tnown
scientist, Ancel Keys studied for years the
lifestyle of Cilento, verifying the actual benefits
on the heart.
Wine is famous in the region especially: DOC
Castel San Lorenzo and DOC Cilento. Among
the typical traditions, OIL DOP Cilento, with’s
low in acidity and rich in polyphenols. In
addition, the food and wine heritage includes:
buffalo mozzarella from the nearby Piana del
Sele, the famous mozzarella in the Aude, the
White Fig DOP, anchovies from menoica,
Controne beans and chickpeas from Cicerale,
etc ...
Within a few miles you go from the sea to the
mountains, from the seafood flavors to dishes
typical of the interior.

preserve the most important and noble monumental archaeological complex
of the entire Magna Grecia. Attractions: Temples of Neptune, Temple of
Hera, the National Museum, Early Christian Basilica, Gethsemane, the
Sanctuary of the Madonna del Granato, Church of St. Peter and St. Anthony,
Franciscan Monastery.

o THE TERRITORIES: AGROPOLI
Port of Agropoli
A town of nearly 22,000 inhabitants. Important
Aragonese cultural attraction is the Angevin
Castle, consisting of a Byzantine structure dating
from the sixth century. Striking is the door of the
seventeenth century and is a symbol of Agropoli is
the Tower of St. Mark dating to 1594 and the rock
in front of St. Francis to 'namesake Convent..
The BAY of TRENTOVA, is miles of pristine
Mediterranean vegetation, crossed by hiking
trails.It is the most popular beach in Agropoli.
The crystal clear waters permit Agropoli to be
one of the beach resorts awarded with the "Blue
Flag“ every year. The harbor is the largest south
of Salerno, with about room for a 1000 bouts. In
the months it’s possible to catch a ferry to Capri
or Amalfi from the port of July and August.

Torchiara.The name comes from "Turris Clara", the
distinguished between the towers. The tower was
founded by the Lombards. There are numerous
attractions to be seen: the old town, the town park
Peacock bordering the entrance road, square tower
with its palaces, Palazzo De Conciliis, donated to the
town by Baron De Conciliis, the Church of
SSSalvatore, mail to guard the city with 300 years-old
lime tree , houses some art treasures, including the
Polyptych of "Transfiguration", the Church of San
Bernardino, with an oil painting"Redeemer with
Saints Bernardino and Antonio Abate ", the Church of
St. Barbara.
Also across the country side you can see the
"passolare", old houses in which figs were lift to dry
EVENTS: Solstice 'Estate, a journey through
music, art, folklore, dance and crafts. Organizes
the Medieval Festival, with a parade in costumes
in which everyone can participate

November 4 2014, the Association of Tour Operators of Torchiara,was created and it
brings together all the facilities in the town. The main objective of the association is
to promote the area by working with government agencies, especially taking care of
communication through the countless national and international tourist promotion
activities.
