estled amidst river bluffs on the sharpest
navigable bend on the Mississippi
River, Red Wing presents the perfect
mix of river town history, artistry, theatre, crafts
– and great shoes, of course.
Red Wing is an antique and pottery lover’s
paradise, and also is home to dozens of one-ofa-kind clothing, gift and craft stores. From the
beautiful downtown to the historic Pottery
Place Mall, you’ll find unique treasures to warm
your heart and make you smile long after you’ve
left. Culinary confections, candles, hand-blown
glass and Scandinavian and German keepsakes
all await personal discovery. And the famous
Red Wing Shoes and Red Wing Stoneware are
purchased and collected across the country.
The town boasts one of the finest small
theatres in the Midwest. The community is
devoted and beloved to the beautifully restored
Sheldon Performing Arts Theatre (built in
1904), and welcomes the draw of nationally
known acts.
4
In the Arts, the Red Wing Arts Association
Gallery gives you your first glimpse of works
by talented local artists. Natural history buffs
and young history protégés are fascinated by the
Goodhue County Historical Center’s exhibits.
And welcome our recent addition to our long list
of activities, the Falconer Vineyards Winery,
now open for tours and tasting.
Red Wing’s lodging leads the league in
small-town lodging. The St James Hotel has
provided the finest accommodations since 1875.
None of its 61 guestrooms are alike, and each is
named after a riverboat that used to pass through
Red Wing. Seven charming motels provide
travelers with more lodging options, and offer
amenities you might not expect.
Red Wing’s newest attractions are Red Wing
Shoe Store & Museum featuring the world’s
largest boot – size 6381/2! – and Red Wing
Brewery offering historic local beer, sandwiches,
soups, and sides.

ittle more than a stones-throw apart,
Wabasha and Kellogg are two of the
oldest towns on the upper Mississippi.
Wabasha was populated in 1826, and Kellogg
shortly thereafter. Because of their history and
close proximity to the Mississippi River, these
communities offer a variety of activities including
boating, sailing, golf, downhill skiing, and miles
of hiking trails with some of the most incredible
birding in the country.
6
Eagles gather in numbers during the
winter months and nest in the charming town
year round. The National Eagle Center houses
five live eagles, (Angel, Harriet, Columbia, Donald
& Was’aka). Many visitors travel to WabashaKellogg to have a “Nose to Beak” experience with
America’s National Symbol of Freedom – The
American Bald Eagle.
Fun, unique, and cultural, all describe what you
will experience while shopping and visiting LARK
Carousel & Antique Toy Museum, SVJ Designs,
and Loon Lake Decoy Company. Summer brings
free Music Under the Bridge presented by RJAC
every Friday from May through August. Different
bands, different styles, but all soo enjoyable!!
A variety of uniquely appealing restaurants
offer an amazingly diverse menu. Slippery’s Bar
and Grill offers riverfront dining along with its
Grumpy Old Men fame. Riverboat Lanes offers a
sports bar atmosphere, fresh homemade pizza and
Thunder Alley Bowling. The Fresh Wok offers
Chinese Cuisine. Experience old fashioned gourmet
chocolates at The Chocolate Escape. Other popular
restaurants include T-Bone’s Grill & Bar, Stacy’s
Kitchen, The Olde Triangle Pub, Dairy Queen,
Rocking Horse Cafe, Silver Star Saloon, Town
& Country Café, The Scoop Ice Cream Parlor,
Flour Mill Pizzeria, and The Bluffs at Coffee
Mill.
SeptOberfest brings summer to a close and
celebrates the time of year when the leaves turn
brilliant reds, birds fly through to go south, and over
3,000 pumpkins get decorated in Wabasha. Every
street is covered with amusement and merriment.
Take a moment to gossip with the Wine Divas or
learn the truth with the Beer Buddies. There are
eagle eggs, Smurfs, and apples with worms in them.
Not sure what we are talking about, then make
it a must see on your bucket list to visit Wabasha
between September 14 and October 27. Kids
activities, Saturday afternoon music, brats, and free
Carriage Rides are just a few of the many things to
see and do every weekend. If that wasn’t enough, the
Three Seasonal Boutiques open to offer a special
bonus to the shopper in you. Three very unique
boutiques with over 150 vendors with so much
variety to offer. The Three Seasonal Boutiques are
only open twice a year, during SeptOberfest and
during the 100-Mile Garage Sale in May. Don’t
miss out!!”
Come enjoy our year-round playground on the
magnificent Mississippi River, where scenic beauty
meets small town tradition. Explore our unique
shops and relax in our charming lodges and inns.
Let’s not forget to mention Read’s Landing,
just 3 miles north of Wabasha also on the majestic
Mississippi River. Stay at the River’s Nest Bed
and Breakfast on the river or up on the bluff at
American Eagle Bluff Bed and Breakfast. Find a
few gems at the Ruby Beets Antique Shop. Visit
the Wabasha County Historical Society Museum
and survey the oldest surviving brick schoolhouse
in Minnesota. Built in 1870, the building is made
of three-layer brick walls. Follow the steps of long
ago students and examine the initials forever carved
into the hallways. The museum also has a barn
loaded with old machinery, telling the agricultural
story of Wabasha County. Then stop over to Reads
Landing Brewery where at any time there are 3
specially made house brewed beers on tap and
amazing food.
