America. The Center contains a treasure lode
of superbly preserved Upper Cretaceous
Marine Shells and Vertebrate Remains left
there 70 million years ago when the water of
the Gulf of Mexico receded.

Clams, snails, crabs, sharks, and giant mosasaurs living
in Tennessee! That would be the scene approximately
70 million years ago in what is now West Tennessee as
the ancient Gulf of Mexico covered the land.
Visits to the center are limited to organized groups.
Organized tours, environmental camps and fossil digs
allow visitors to dig for fossils at the site and take them
home. Five camp-style cabins, a dining hall, and
kitchen are available to accommodate overnight guests.

Suburban home of the late Buford Pusser, McNairy
County's world-famous sheriff featured in the "Walking
Tall" movies and television series. Site contains cars,
original furnishings, a short video presentation, and a
host of memorabilia depicting the life of Sheriff Pusser
from childhood through his famed law enforcement
career.
Buford Pusser Home & Museum
Pusser, 6'6" tall, is known for his virtual oneman war on moonshining, prostitution,
gambling, and other vices along the
Mississippi–Tennessee state line. His efforts
have inspired several books, songs, movies,
and a TV series.
As McNairy County Sheriff for six years,
Pusser is credited with surviving seven
stabbings and eight shootings.

A Law Enforcement Museum of Youngest Sheriff in TN History (27 yrs old)
The home contains the original furnishings, photos, cars, guns and memorabilia of the
Pusser family. Buford Pusser was the subject of several major motion pictures.

SlugBurger — Beef or pork with an inexpensive
extender such as soy grits. According to legend, the
'slugburger' is the slang term for a nickel or for 'being
an imitation hamburger.'
Another reason is that in the meat packing trade, slug
was a dressed forequarter of lamb or mutton and a
slugburger extender. Another origin comes from the
feeling after eating too many slugburgers or you are
sensitive to fried food and felt like someone had
'slugged' you.

the 'wackiest' summer events. In 2014, reigning Matt Megatoad Stonie from San Jose, California, set the world records with 43 SlugBurgers eaten in

The historic Ritz Theater Building displays items of the
county’s history. The Museum has a unique layout with
a large center gallery that displays various aspects of life
in the early McNairy County. There are seven side
rooms that offer a different way of viewing the history
of the county. There are the School Room, the Civil
War Room, the Church Room, the Healing Arts Room,
and the Business and Agriculture Rooms.

More than 109,000 soldiers, most of them
