ABOUT US
The year 1992 witnessed india opening up its doors to foreign investments and ushering in liberalization of
the economy. Understanding the significance of this landmark event, Symbiosis Institute of International
Business (SIIB) was setup to prepare managers and leaders for a growing India, in a growing world.
With a pilot course of MBA in International Business (1992), the institute has continued the trend of
keeping itself on par with the demands of the business world and this led to the introduction of MBA
in Agriculture Business (2004) and MBA in Energy & Environment (2009).
Learning at SIIB is imparted through guest lectures, industry and port visits, specialized workshops
conducted by industry professionals in addition to classroom studies. Students of MBA in International
Business can specialize in one of the following - Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain Management and
Human resources, depending on their aptitude and career choice. All specializations focus on domestic as
well as international management practices. The students of all these courses participate in an 8 weeklong summer project at a company in a sector of their choice to bridge the gap between learning and
application.
In addition to this, SIIB has a number of student exchange programs that aims at provinding the
students with an opportunity to gain a global perspective, under the lens of the management. Example,
Student exchange program with the Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany,
Credit exchange program with Berlin School of Economics & Law (BSEL), etc.

Credit Exchange Program, Berlin School of Economics & Law
(BSEL), Germany
In the year 2011, SIIB started a credit exchange program with BSEL,
Germany with an objective to add the dimension of Consulting in the
international context to the existing MBA program in International
business. The MBA – IB program of SIIB provides a strong emphasis
on international business with special focus on the chosen functional
specializations – Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain Management & HR
whereas the MA – International Business & Consulting (International
Strategic Management) at BSEL prepares the students for strategic crossfunctional competencies, required in the international arena.
Semester Exchange Program, Sheffield Hallam University, UK
Being one of the UK’s most progressive and innovative universities,
Sheffield Hallam is a multicultural institution with a vibrant and diverse
student population consisting of over 4,000 international students from
120 different countries. The Sheffield Hallam University, located in the
city of Sheffield, is the fourth largest in the UK with more than 33,000
students, 4,360 staff and 572 courses. The study involves a mixture of
knowledge-based learning through classroom sessions and skills-based
learning through projects and group assignments.

Semester Exchange Program, Flensburg University of Applied
Sciences, Germany
The Flensburg University of Applied Sciences is one of Germany’s leading
universities offering a wide range of Bachelors’ & Masters’ level programs.
In the year 2014, SIIB started a semester exchange program with Flensburg
University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Under this program, the selected
students spend one full semester in Flensburg University, Germany. The
study involves a volume of knowledge-based learning through classroom
sessions and skill-based learning through projects and group assignments.
Summer School, Hochschule Bremen, Germany
The one-month summer school in association with Hochschule Bremen,
University of Applied Sciences, Germany is one of the oldest program
offered at SIIB. Every year about 20 students opt for this program. The
visit to Bremen, Germany is a structured academic activity. Lectures are
held every day and many leading personalities visit the school to interact
with the students on various topics. The program covers the following
broad areas: - European Economy, Cases in International Marketing
Management, Global Management Concepts & Controversies, Intercultural
Communication, Air & Sea transport, Benchmarking in Logistics.

INDUSTRY COLLABORATIONS
FIEO
Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), in collaboration with Federation of
Indian Exports Organization (FIEO), Mumbai (set up by The Ministry of Commerce and
Industry, Government of India) offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade (PGDFT).
The course focuses on a specialized training program to build and cater to the needs of
the industry by blending academic and industrial inputs in the pedagogy. By combining the
management and foreign trade expertise of the two organizations, the course intends to
shape the human resource of the country for ‘Make in India’ campaign. This unique alliance
between government, industry and academia tries to shape and bridge the gaps in the industry
for sustainance of business.
EHS+ Center
SIIB in partnership with the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC), a global Training
Institute working on Sustainability with offices in US and China, has recently set up an EHS+
Center at SIIB aimed at conducting quality training program in EHS related disciplines.
The SIIB–ISC training program seek to build capacity of middle and senior level managers
particularly in manufacturing and its supply chain partners in and around Pune focusing
on Environment, Health and Safety related standards and processes through customized
program.
These training programmes lay strategic emphasis on some of the current global challenges
in sustainability with reference to corporate sustainability and business strategy, Energy
Management, Environmental Impact Assessment & Risk Management, Environmental
Management Systems, Auditing, Health and Safety Regulations, GHG and Carbon
Management, Sustainability Standards, Practices and Reporting, Best Practices, Case Studies
etc.

INDUSTRY CONNECT
A team of SIIB MBA Agri Business students bagged
top honours at the Financial Literacy CampaignPragatishala organised by Axis Bank in the month
of March 2016.
Aptly named “Kisan Vighnaharta”, the team of
10 students from AB batch 2015-17 emerged
victorious and secured the 2nd position in the PAN
India event. The underlying objective behind the
Pragatishala Financial Literacy Campaign was
to build familiarity along with understanding
the financial products, rewards, risks & help the
villagers make informed decisions in the area of
personal finance and to empower people to achieve
their own goals through enhancing their financial
capabilities.

Travelling across 36 cities, the TATA Crucible
Quiz concluded its Pune chapter only to witness
an overwhelming participation from over 90 teams
battling it out for securing a place in the Western
Zone finals. The teams that advanced to the finals
were: SIIB, SIBM Pune, AFMC and AIT.
After a nail-biting finish, Abhishek Pandey
and Dhruv Puri from Symbiosis Institute of
International Business (SIIB), emerged victorious
after beating some of the best quizzing teams from
the finest B-schools in the city.
INDUSTRY CONNECT
‘LinkedIn MTV Get A Job’ is a nationwide contest
that offers summer internships at 12 reputed global
companies like Pepsi, Amazon, Flipkart, Marico
etc. This season witnessed more than 2,00,000
applications for the coolest companies around.
SIIB’s tryst with Deloitte Maverick has been
more than memorable one. The college band, “The
RichMan & Co” marched their way to the finals of
the contest and won it after performing in Deloitte’s
head office in Hyderabad.
The idea of winning a job excited and motivated
Sarath Chandra Jami to give it his best shot at
preliminary ‘Elevator Pitch’ round. The short-listed
candidates were asked to present their idea and got
exposure to MTV through ‘Personal Interview’.
The team triumphed because of their hardwork
and dedication towards their passion.The team
then went on to win the regional round in Mumbai,
beating S.P Jain Mumbai, IIM Calcutta in the
finals. The team consisted of Shubham Tripathi,
Banbhalang Kharpuri, Abhishek Tripathi, Subinit
Rath, Zubin Deepak and Ambarish Nag.
The earnestly awaited results were declared and
Sarath won the ‘LinkedIn MTV Get A Job’ by
competing with candidates from IIMs and IITs.

and concepts to pratical problems of business and industry. The curriculum is revised on a continuous basis through discussions

SPSS
SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Scientists) is a data
management and statistical analysis tool which has a very versatile
data processing capability. Because of its popularity within both
academic and business circles, it has been an integral part of SIIB’s
course curriculum since a very long time. Use of SPSS in subjects
like Market research, Operations research allows many different
types of analysis, data transformations, and forms of output.
Six Sigma
Six Sigma is a rigorous, focused and highly effective implementation
of proven quality principles and techniques. It focuses on defect
prevention, cycle time reduction, and cost savings. Six Sigma helps
students focus on improving quality (and therefore reducing waste)
and thereby helping organizations produce products and services
better, faster and cheaper. At SIIB, subject like Quality Management
has Six Sigma incorporated and every student is certified in Six
Sigma offered by KPMG.

Marketplace Live
Business simulations allow students to apply newly acquired
theoretical knowledge in a simulated business world. Students
can gain hands-on managerial experience by running their own
businesses in a safe game-like environment
SAP
SAP ERP is an enterprise resource planning software which
incorporates key business functions of an organization. SIIB
provides adequate knowledge and training to students on SAP
to reap benefits from modules like FI/CO (Financial Accounting
and Controlling), MM( Material Management) and SD( Sales
and Distribution) . SIIB is a member school of SAP-UAP
(University Alliance Programme).

EVENTS @ SIIB (2015-16)
AARAMBH
Aarambh is the first event of the year
organized by SIIB to host the talent of
the new budding batch of freshers. They
are welcomed into the SIIB family by
way of appreciating and complimenting
their talent. A total of 17 vivid cultural
performances were displayed by the Batch
2015-17.
MARKADICTION
This event was organized by the
Markadiction-Marketing Club of SIIB,
with the theme of “Retailing, E-Tailing
and Beyond”. The event was divided into
a keynote speech and a panel discussion.
The students were treated with an
exclusive preview of the KITKAT ad.

HR CONNECT
FINANZA
The theme for the conclave was Social
Media in HR. The keynote speaker for the
event Mrs. Pranali Save spoke widely on
the topic. An interesting panel discussion
then took place with Colonel Brijkishan
acting as moderator. The students also
showed their interest by engaging in a
discussion with the panel members.
The flagship event of Finance department
of SIIB is the congregation of students,
faculty, industry veterans and domain
experts. The theme for this year’s event
was ‘The Mounting NPA’s’. In addition
the finance club-‘FinEquity’ was also
inaugurated. A series of financial
management events were held as a
precursor before the final main event.
AGRI SUMMIT
AAROHAN
The theme for SCM conclave Aarohan
was ‘Make in India’. The event was a
week-long affair. Speakers from Essar
Steel, Walchandnagar Industries, Mahle
Behr Group were amongst others who
interacted with the students. The sort of
exposure given by the speakers showed
how cardinal Make in India initiative is.
The flagship event of the Agri Business
Department was held in the month of
August. Eminent speakers from various
sectors spoke on important issues
prevalent in the agri industry. The event
ended with a panel discussion which
provided the students with varying
insights.
EVENTS @ SIIB (2015-16)
ENECON
The conclave was held on 6th of
September. It dealt with the idea of the
rapid changing energy sector and the
concept of CSR.The chief guest for the
day was Mr. Rajandra Shende, Chairman
TERRE Policy, and Ex-Director of UNEP.
The key note speaker of the event was
Mr. Vikramjeet Singh Deputy Secretary,
Ministry of Power.
Incontro MUN’ 15 set the platform for
the student delegates to discuss and draft
a resolution for the pressing issues of
the world, across four counsels. In this 2
day event, students actively drafted and
passed a resolution on the ISIS issue, by
forming a Joint Crisis Committee.
Leadership series’ 15 gave an opportunity
to SIIBians to learn about upcoming of
ASEAN countries, through the special
talk by renowned speakers - Shri Anand
Sharma (Former Minister, Ministry of
Commerce, GOI), H.E. Mr. Rizali Wilmar
Indrakesuma
(Ambassador,
of
the
Republic of Indonesia) and Mr. N. Ravi
(Former Secretary (East), MEA).
ANUSMRUTI
A remarkable Annual Alumni Meet
carnival, Anusmruti’ 16, welcomed the
then SIIBians (1994 – 96 & 2004 – 06
batches), into their own campus, after one
and two decades, who reaped success in
their domain. Through this platform, the
alumni shared their insights.
MUN
IGNISENSE
The
management-cum-cultural
fest
attracted the talents of the country to
it’s platform and set ways to ignite their
senses to set IGNISENSE’ 16 on fire. It
was truly a carnival of rebels.

leadership acumen. The astounding response from both its regular and new recruiters is testimony to the

B-Schools. The 2014-16 placement season witnessed many prominent recruiters from the industry such as

MEET THE TEAM
The placement committee is a student driven committee responsible for placements and corporate
relations of the institute. The placement committee undertakes to build a relationship with the
corporates on various fronts including interactive sessions, guest lectures, live projects and corporate
consulting. The committee consists of members, representative of each programme – IB, AB and
E&E from each year. The committee members are mentored and guided by the Director, SIIB.
