The Taylor was a great success!
Le tournoi Taylor fut un grand succès!
Thanks to Wendy Klacko and her team for putting on
a great spiel. Advancing the timing by one week and
coupling the final day with a great Christmas dinner
made for one of the best Taylor events in quite a few
years. And once again a big thanks goes out to the
Taylor store for their continued support.

Challenge équipe Devine
Where were you on Friday, March 23? If you didn’t attend the
TGIF put on by Bob and his team you missed a great one. 117
people, including the Masters organizing committee and their
wives sat down to a superb roast pork dinner which was
followed up by a selection of the most delicious home made
pies imaginable. I guarantee everyone went home happy.
Bob’s team consisted of Edouard Archer, Leo Brown, Judy
Cruchet, Gilles Dumas, John Green, Edna Ouellette, and
Charlene Pincombe supported by the Pie Ladies: Betty
Devine, Linda Magher, Lea Brown, Sue Green, Cyp Kelly,
Mireille MacLeay, Irene Szabo, Elizabeth Sutherland, Denise
Robert, Alice Leclerc, Shirley Gibson, June Scott, Doreen
Schofield and Kathleen Allard. Heather Ann Dawson once
again organized these fine cooks.
The dinner made a net profit of over $1,000 not including the
bar proceeds which were much higher than normal. Bob and his
team would like to challenge every club member to try to match
or exceed their achievement. Can you form a committee and
put on a TGIF? The club thrives on this kind of involvement, it
not only helps our financial situation but also builds team spirit
and a sense of belonging - it doesn’t take all that much effort
and you will probably have fun doing it. If you would like to try,
just contact the Entertainment Chairperson and book a Friday
sometime next season.
Avez-vous manqué le TGIF du 23 mars ? Si oui, sachez que ce
fut un succès formidable avec la présence de 117 convives,
incluant les membres du comité organisateurs du Championnat
des Maîtres et leurs compagnes. Le repas rôti à la Bob était suivi
d’une sélection de tartes très variées et toutes faites maison.
Cette soirée a été appréciée de tous.
L’équipe de Bob composée de Ed Archer, Léo Brown, Judy
Cruchet, Gilles Dumas, John Green, Edna Ouellette et Charlene
Pincombe, était supportée par les « productrices de tartes »
suivantes, Betty Devine, Linda Magher, Lea Brown, Sue
Green, Cyp Kelly, Mireille MacLeay, Irene Szabo, Elizabeth
Sutherland, Denise Robert, Alice Leclerc, Shirley Gibson,
June Scott, Doreen Schofield et Kathleen Allard. Heather Ann
Dawson s’était chargé de coordonner le travail de toutes ces
dames.
Le diner a généré un profit de plus de 1000$ sans compter les
ventes du bar qui ont été plus élevées à cette occasion. Bob et
son équipe lancent un défi à toute personne qui aimerait égaler
ou surpasser ces résultats. Pouvez-vous former un groupe qui
pourrait s’occuper d’un TGIF ? Ça ne nécessite pas un effort
exceptionnel et vous aurez sûrement du plaisir à effectuer cette
activité. Bien sur, les revenus générés sont importants pour la
santé financière du club mais ces occasions contribuent aussi à
reserrer les liens entre les membres. Si vous êtes intéressés,
veuillez communiquer avec la personne responsable des Activités
Sociales pour choisir le vendredi qui vous conviendra la saison
prochaine.

Clark Bonspiel:
Tournoi Clark
Seize équipes ont participé à ce tournoi qui s’est déroulé
rondement. Merci à Wendy Klacko et à son équipe. La
soirée de clôture a réuni plus de 80 personnes, autant
joueurs qu’invités, incluant le commanditaire, Peter
Harrison et son épouse Linda Murphy. Le chef Rodolfo
avait préparé un repas digne pour l’occasion. Stephen
Sharp et Ingrid Spindelmann ont été les heureux
gagnants des billets d’avion.
Un grand merci à Peter et Clark Travel pour leur
commandite.
The Clark Bonspiel had a full slate of 16 teams and
ran smoothly thanks again to Wendy Klacko and her
team. Caterer Rodolfo served a fine dinner on the
closing Saturday that was attended by more than 80
members and guests including tournament sponsor
Peter Harrison and his wife Linda Murphy. The Air
Canada tickets were won by Steve Sharp and Ingrid
Spindelmann.

semaine du Championnat Canadien des Maîtres
Après plus de 16 mois de préparation, cette semaine a semblé très courte. Dans l’ensemble ce fut un succès à tous les
niveaux et je suis particulièrement fier de l’implication de plus de 60 bénévoles du club. Les participants n’avaient que des
éloges concernant notre hospitalité, notre excellente cuisine et la condition des glaces.
Vous entendrez probablement plus de commentaires dans les semaines à venir mais je peux vous dire qu’à partir des
cérémonies d’ouverture avec la participation du corps de police de Longueuil en habit d’apparat, des joueurs de
cornemuse, de la prestation des South Shore Saints qui ont interprété le « O Canada » de façon mémorable et jusqu’aux
parties finales incluant les cérémonies de fermeture, le tout s’est déroulé de façon remarquable.
Même si je ne peux pas mentionner les noms de tous ceux qui se sont impliqués, je voudrais remercier tout
particulièrement les personnes suivantes qui ont contribué de façon spéciale : François Vary, Marc-André Bouchard,
Bernard Thibault, Judy Cruchet, Edna Ouellette, Ann Mercure, Mary McArdle et Neil Alexander.
Une mention particulière s’adresse à Mike Dawson pour son implication à plusieurs niveaux mais surtout pour s’être porté
spontanément volontaire pour aller chercher à Dorval la mère du capitaine du Manitoba, Mme Wescott âgée de 101 ans,
qui voyageait avec sa fille et de les amener à l’hôtel Sandman. Malgré les rumeurs, il n’est pas vrai que le but de Mike
était de présenter cette dame à son père, lui-même âgé de 100 ans.
Un coup de chapeau à Henri-Paul Bélanger et à son épouse Pierrette qui ont pris une semaine de vacances afin de
s’occuper du bar pendant la journée. Quelle implication !
Merci également à Éric Korn pour sa généreuse contribution en fournissant les fromages Agropur qui ont servi à lancer la
semaine de façon formidable avec l’activité « Brise Glace » du dimanche soir préparée sous la directive de Judy Cruchet.

Masters Week:
It took over 16 months to plan and organize and it lasted what seemed like seven short days. From all perspectives it was
a great success and I was extremely proud of the effort put forth by the more than sixty volunteers from our club. The
comments from players about our wonderful hospitality, our excellent kitchen and fine ice conditions were most gratifying.
You will hear more about the Masters in the coming weeks but, from the opening ceremonies with the Longueuil Police
colour guard, pipers and drums and South Shore Saints singing the national anthem (one of the best renditions I’ve
heard), to the final games and ceremonies at Boucherville, the whole week went off without a hitch.
I would like to thank everyone who did their part and although I can’t name you all here, there are a few who deserve
special consideration for their exceptional contribution, they are; François Vary, Marc-André Bouchard, Bernard Thibault,
Judy Cruchet, Edna Ouellette, Ann Mercure, Mary McArdle and Neil Alexander.
A special mention goes out to Mike Dawson for going above and beyond the call of duty. Mike worked on several fronts,
but, when Manitoba skip Ron Wescott mentioned that his 101 year old mother was flying in from Winnipeg, Mike
volunteered to pick up her and Ron’s sister, her traveling companion, at the airport and drive them to the Sandman Hotel.
It is not true that the only reason he did this was to fix up Fred, his 100 year old father, with a date.
I also have to tip my hat to Henri-Paul Bélanger and his wife Pierrette who took vacation for the week so they could be the
daytime bar tenders. Now that’s dedication!
And, a big thanks to Eric Korn for his generous donation of Agropur cheeses to help with Judy Cruchet’s Brise-Glace
which kicked off the Masters in fine style on Sunday night.

Homeward Bound:
After just one short year with our club Mervin Walsh is packing up and heading back to his home province of
Newfoundland. Rumor has it that once he gets there he will be looking for a Native American (Mi'Kmaq) wife. It seems
they have much better fishing privileges than other Newfoundlanders and we all know how important fishing is.
We will miss you Merv, especially the day ladies and the day bartenders. Oh, by the way, you looked real spiffy in your
tux at the Masters Brise Glace - that was a nice touch of class.
Almost an eight ender:
The Fred Ferrie seniors doubles were held last fall and won by Ray Leclerc and Tony Greene. Dave Sharp and Joe
Griffin were finalist and along the way they achieved what almost equates to an eight ender. In doubles you only throw six
rocks per team, per end and Dave and Joe made all six rocks count – you can’t do better. Unfortunately, other than here
and around the club, you don’t get any special recognition for pulling it off. Their opponents will remain nameless.

bathroom has been fixed?
After three years of searching, by many different people,
Gaetan Lacourse and Jean Marc Noiseux finally located
the source of the problem, a cracked PVC vent pipe, and
made the necessary repairs. It would have been very
embarrassing going though the Masters with the
annoying drip and plastic pail sitting on the bathroom

Seniors:
We are in the final days with just one more game in the Seniors championship round.
Our club finished third in the Montreal Masters inter-club behind Pointe Claire and Laval, the same spot as last year.
In the Richelieu Valley completion we came in second during round robin play, again same as last year, but were
knocked out in the semi finals of the playoffs by Bel-Aire. Boucherville once again won the championship. We will get
them next year.
Many thanks to Bob Devine and Jack Landerman for organizing these leagues and Roberta Landerman for her tireless
work in the kitchen.
