She writes indie folk rock songs (a couple with an acoustic punk twist), plays the guitar and sings with a voice that has been likened by listeners to Laura Marling and Kate Nash. In 2010 Grace’s music began to take a new, political direction. The heartbreaking results of the UK general election inspired in her such rage and despair that she picked up a guitar and wrote what has become one of the most celebrated anti-establishment anthems of recent times, Farewell to Welfare. gracepetrie.com JULY AUGUST Tue 1 Louise Balkwill & The Gents - £5adv £6door Fri 1 Brothers Groove - £7adv £9otd Wed 2 Thu 3 Katie Buckhaven - £5adv £7door Sat 2 Sun 3 Cliff Stocker & The Legendary Slack Alice Band - £6adv £7otd Fri 4 Sat 5 Voodoo Room - £8adv £10door Mon 4 Tue 5 Eleanor Friedberger - £7adv £9otd Sun 6 Mon 7 Closed The City Acoustic Club - free Steve Parker - £5 Tue 8 Wed 9 Dean Friedman & The South Street Fusion Project - £20 Wed 6 Thu 7 The Lewis Hamilton Band - £6adv £7otd Thu 10 Fri 11 The Webb Sisters - £12adv £15otd Fri 8 Sat 9 Invigorating energy and swing from the Jazz starlet and her band.
