The last form
of applique to
be discussed
in this series is
Borderie
Perse; which
is French for Persian
embroidery. The first examples
of this technique date back to
the early 1700s and were
originally made from chintz
fabric.
With Borderie Perse applique
the technique is similar to
fusible applique. However, the
shapes are inspired by the
actual designs that are printed
on fabric. Typically, floral
fabrics are used.
Fuse the web onto the wrong
side of the fabric focusing on a
particular design. Roughly cut
out the flower or chosen
design. Remove paper
backing. After all pieces have
been cut out, arrange in a
pleasing design then fuse to
back ground fabric. Finish
edges with a blanket stitch.
This is a great technique for
sewers that
are new to
applique. Be
sure to check

don’t know how to
use it? This class is for students who want to
learn how to use the basic functions of their
sewing machine. Lecture and instruction
describing the basic part of the sewing
machine. We will wind a bobbin, thread the
machine, change needle and more. Handout
will be provided by the instructor. Students will
sew straight seams and check for proper
tension. Bring a working sewing machine,
manual, fabric to sew, tools: scissors, bobbins,
thread, machine needles, pins, seam ripper.
Most manuals may be downloaded from the
internet. If manual is on a CD or downloaded,
