The new route
network has
been changed.
Modern mobility for
Düsseldorf and its environs.
The time has finally come in February 2016: the “Wehrhahn-Linie” (extension of the underground to Wehrhahn)
will come into operation. With it, a new route network
will be implemented in Düsseldorf. Four new underground
lines will be added, nearly all tram lines travel along different routes and some bus lines also have modified routes.
This has all been implemented with the goal of bringing
our passengers from A to B even faster and more on
schedule. In terms of barrier-free accessibility, the new
route network has been improved significantly.
When planning and implementing the new route network,
it was a matter close to our hearts to tailor our offer to
your needs. That is why we have called it Netz met Häzz
(“network with a heart”).
On the following pages, you can get an overview of the
most important changes and upcoming scheduled events.
All information will be provided in detail on our website.
We wish you a pleasant journey in our
“Netz met Häzz”!

These six stations are now underground stations. The
station “Jan-Wellem-Platz” will be called “Schadowstraße”
in the new route network. All new underground stations
will feature barrier-free access with escalators and lifts.
The access plans can be found on our website.
Each station has been individually designed by various
artists. As a connecting element, the artwork “Kontinuum” by Heike Klussmann is reflected in the design of all
new underground stations. This means that waiting for
the next train already turns into an experience.

A glance back and facts
about the “Wehrhahn-Linie”
With the completion of the “Wehrhahn-Linie”, Rheinbahn and
the City of Düsseldorf can look back on approximately 50 years
underground construction, as the first plans for the underground
extension of urban transport already started in the 1960s.
In 1973, the ground-breaking ceremony for the Düsseldorf underground was held at Fischerstraße. First, the northern route
was begun between Heinrich-Heine-Allee and Kennedydamm.
This was completed eight years after the start of construction
with approximately 1,600 metres of tunnel length, making
Heinrich-Heine-Allee a central hub for public transport.
In the early 1980s, the first preparations were already made
for the Wehrhahn-Linie, and two 200-metre-long sections of
tunnel route were laid out towards Benrather Straße.
This continued in the subsequent years with the section
between Heinrich-Heine-Allee and the main station and the
section between Heinrich-Heine-Allee and “Oberkasseler
Brücke” (the bridge from Düsseldorf City Centre to the other
side of the rhine).
What was already clear in the 1980s, namely that the underground route network would be extended through the
“Wehrhahn-Linie”, became a reality in November 2007 with
the ground-breaking ceremony. On 20th of February 2016,
almost eight years after construction was started, the finished
line between Pempelforter Straße and the urban rail (S-Bahn)
station Düsseldorf-Bilk will be opened. On 21st of February
2016, we will convert our route network to Netz met Häzz
(“network with a heart”).
