Itinerary Update
Hofbräuhaus Dinner
The Hofbräuhaus dinner that was previously scheduled for June 29th has
been moved to June 30th. Now we can all dine together…Prost!
Day 11
Nuremberg
As discussed in the May 2016 Newsletter, Day 11 is jam packed with
guided tours of the Documentation Center and Zeppelin Grounds at
Nuremberg. Both of these places do not open until 10 a.m. on
Saturday, so we get a later start than normal. Although sleeping in on
Saturday will be great, the downfall is that we lose time we would have
had for lunch. This is a reminder to pack some extra meal
replacement/granola bars before we depart the U.S., or plan on buying
food that does not need to be refrigerated a few days before hand.
The Tour Director’s and Chaperones will ensure that every student has
the opportunity to buy food for lunch before Day 11 while on tour.
Departure Day June 22nd
In our experience it does not work well trying to herd a large group
through airport security to the departure gate. Therefore, the chaperone
leaders will ONLY be accompanying STUDENT TRAVELERS through
security who ARE NOT traveling with an adult on the trip. All other
travelers are expected to report to their chaperone leaders at the gate.
***(If you are an ADULT traveler who is not comfortable going
through security without a chaperone please come see us after this
meeting)***
***CHAPERONES will be at the airport 4+ hours before their flight, we
will be able to assist everyone at check in, but it is much easier for us if
we can focus on the student groups who do not have ADULT supervision
when going through security.***

What to Expect at the Airport
Due to increased security on international flights, ALL TRAVELERS
must arrive to the airport 3+ hours before departure. Chaperones will
help all travelers check-in, but will only escort student travelers
without and ADULT through security (unless requested). All travelers
should report to their chaperone/group leaders once they reach the
departure gate. Additionally, you should be aware that enhanced
screening techniques may be in effect for select flights and
destinations.

Airplane Etiquette
While on the airplane, please regulate the volume of your voice and
headset so that you do not disturb other passengers.
Be mindful of your language and behavior.
RESPECT the physical space of the person in front of you. NEVER
push or kick their seat. Remember, you represent American teenage
students all over the U.S., make a good impression.
RESPECT the physical space of the person behind you, be
considerate when you recline you seat back.
If you need assistance stowing your carry on luggage in the
compartment above you, please ask a FLIGHT ATTENDANT or
CHAPERONE for help.
Seating Arrangements on Flights
Some airlines pre-assign seats while others allocate them at checkin. Although we cannot guarantee that you will get to sit with your family
and friends on the airplane, your best bet is to check-in with them on the
day of departure as early as possible (3+ hours).
A reminder, if you would like to order a special meal for the flight, or if you
have dietary restrictions you need to contact the airline directly, as
Explorica does not deal with in-flight details.

Tickets Please!
Every traveler will be issued E-tickets for their flight. When checking in
each traveler will scan their passport to get their boarding passes and
then drop off any checked baggage with the airline personal before
continuing on to security. Each chaperone will have E-ticket documents
(receipts/confirmation) if for some reason the desk agents make a
mistake and we need the confirmation numbers.

Iceland Air Carry-on Baggage Policy
Iceland Air permits one carry-on bag per person, in addition to one
small personal item, such as small hand bag or laptop. The
maximum weight allowed for your carry-on is 22lbs.
The size of your hand luggage should not
exceed 55x40x20 cm. Please note that any
bag or item must fit easily into the
overhead compartment or under the seat in
front of you.

Accommodations
A reminder to all travelers that we are GUESTS at the hotels we are
staying in. Be mindful of your noise level so that you’re not
disturbing other guests, especially if you are with a GROUP of
people.
If you plan to meet up with your friends, do it in your room or another
common area, NOT in the hallways or elevators. Boys are
ABSOLUTELY NOT allowed to socialize in girls’ rooms, and vice
versa. If you want to socialize with someone of the opposite sex, it
must be in a COMMON AREA.
Keep your door closed and locked at all times. Please do not slam
the doors when you go in and out as it is very disturbing to the other
guests.
Accommodations
We expect that all windows and doors will remain closed in your hotel
rooms. There will be no conversations taking place outside of
windows. Some hotels may have balconies, and the same rule
applies.
Treat hotel property, including room keys, with care. You will be held
responsible if items are stolen, lost, or damaged.
If something is damaged in your room you will be responsible for
paying the bill to replace or repair the item. As soon as you enter your
room check for any broken items, and let a chaperone know
immediately if you find anything damaged.
Accommodations
Everyone must have a travel alarm clock. Some
hotels may not provide wake up calls. The
chaperones and Tour Director are not your “wake up
calls” either! EVERYONE must be on time.
We expect that students will abide by curfew and
time frames allotted. Room checks usually take
place around 10 or 10:30 p.m. with lights out by 11
p.m.
Never open a hotel door unless you have heard the
coded knock (we will go over this while on tour).
Be a Courteous Roommate
All travelers are reminded to be courteous of their roommates, and
make arrangements to coordinate the best times to make phone
calls home, take showers, and wake up.
As a reminder, DO NOT use the hotel room phones to make calls.
DO NOT attempt to make coffee or tea if you have never done so
before. Any property damage or charges to a room will have to be
settled before we leave a hotel. If a room has been charged, all
occupants of the room will have to split the bill.
NO TRAVELER may get a room prior to the Group Leader or Tour
Director handing them a key.
Ferry Boat Rooming Reminder
As you know we are traveling by air,
land, and sea on this tour. A single
cabins are not guaranteed on ferries
(nor did you pay for one, room
upgrades were only available for
hotels). Ferry boats try to fill every
bed on board so they don’t allow
single cabins to be requested. An
adult traveler could end up with a
single cabin, but only if there is an
odd number of men or women.
