As the integrated global economy takes shape, goods are being moved daily across continents and oceans. Between
any two steps of the production process, raw materials, partially assembled products and end products have to
travel increasingly long distances.
A successful packaging system must meet many challenges:
It must protect the contents (anything from liquid food to electrical components) during journeys which might
involve extremes of temperature and humidity, bumps and vibrations, delays and re-routings. It has to fit the
dimensions of larger containers on ships, in trucks, trains and warehouses. It must be easy and inexpensive to
clean and maintain. It must be durable and re-usable for many journeys. When empty, it should be easy and
economical to transport home again.
Schoeller Arca Systems develops plastic packaging systems to meet all these challenges.

AGRICULTURE
A high-volume, margin-sensitive business, agriculture
demands the ability to ship large volumes at competitive
prices, and quickly. Great flexibility is required because
the contained product determines the optimum container
size, and seasonal and annual variation must also be taken
into account.
Schoeller Arca Systems’ adaptability is a key advan
tage here. Orders for a season may be modified as
harvests approach, and one year’s orders may differ
substantially from the previous year’s. Flexibility production enables us to respond rapidly to changes, so we can
meet customer needs and minimise the production of

AUTOMOTIVE
Key features of the automobile and truck industry are
that it is global, intensely competitive, and suffering from
overcapacity. As a result, companies providing containers
to car makers must offer competitive prices and efficiencyenhancing solutions for global parts-supply chains in such
areas as handling unit characteristics (pallets, containers,
cover), space-saving (collapsible and folding units),
tracking systems, labelling, and marking. Car makers are
also relentlessly continuing the drive to reduce their total
number of suppliers, and only want suppliers with global
capacity. Schoeller Arca Systems’ size, extensive sales

BEVERAGE INDUSTRY
In the highly competitive and rapidly consolidating beer
and soft-drink markets today, building strong brands is
the name of the game. Beverage companies are investing
in their brands to build market share and differentiate their
products, to escape the low margins of the commodity trap.
Schoeller Arca Systems contributes by creating unique,
visually appealing crates for point-of-sales identity and
attending to consumer ergonomics in the design - all details

Chemical Segment
In response to increasingly stringent environmental and
transportation regulations (RID/ADR, IMDG, IATA, etc),
many chemical companies have to increase the quality of
their packaging and/or are moving from metal to plastic
containers. Schoeller Arca Systems helps to meet these
challenges with its plastic ROPAC UN-approved open top
containers for transportation of dangerous goods (solids
and liquids). The ROPAC pails offer also an optimal and
safe packaging for high added value products. The plastic
material (HDPE) is easier to recycle, is safe and shock
proof, does not become dented or marked in transit.
The Combo bag-in-box IBC is a plastic packaging solution from Schoeller Arca Systems with many benefits to
the customer in the chemical industry for non-hazardous
goods. With a capacity of up to 1000 litres, lightweight
and robust, the Combo is the perfect product for storing
and transporting adhesives, coatings, detergents etc. The
Combo gives customers the best ratio between optimisation of useful volume and protection of fluids.
FLUID HANDLING
The main challenge in fluid handling is how to reduce
costs at the same time as improving the performance of
the distribution system. The ComboLife series, developed
and delivered by Schoeller Arca Systems, makes it possible
to reconcile these apparently conflicting demands, and is
steadily replacing disposable packaging such as cardboard,
metal, fibre and plastic containers, as well as containers
made of composite steel and aluminium.
Offering safe and hygienic transport and storage of
goods, the ComboLife bag-in-box series consists of a large,
rigid, foldable container with a sterile liner bag inside to
hold the liquid product. It is economical, easy to use, robust
and environmentally friendly.

FOOD processing
Food processing industries need containers that meet several criteria. The first is cost-effectiveness, through longer
life, less maintenance and washing, as well as lower purchase price. These companies also seek standardisation so
containers can be fitted flexibly into production processes.
Thirdly, they want vendors that listen closely and respond
quickly with innovation and customised solutions.

POOLING SERVICES
Pooling systems provide farmers with an alternative to
cardboard packaging, and they are developing rapidly.
A key reason for this is that retailers have noticed how
the uniform, hygienic image of coloured containers appeals to consumers, and the ventilation holes in plastic
containers allow air to circulate, keeping produce fresh.
The pooling system has operational advantages for
farmers, too, eliminating the need to keep a stock of
containers and worry about their collection, cleaning,
maintenance and return transport. Pooling also suits
farming’s seasonality: plastic containers can be re-used
for a succession of different crops as they ripen. Schoeller
Arca Systems’ high-quality, recyclable containers have
a long life and provide an economical solution for the
distribution of fresh produce.
Postal services
Public-sector and private postal and courier services
worldwide constantly strive to improve their logistics in
every possible way. The correct choice of postal tray enables and supports everything from automatic detection
of filling level and frictionless handling in automated, high
capacity sorting centres, to fast and reliable data capture
and transport efficiency both when filled and empty.
For many years, Schoeller Arca Systems has collaborated
with Europe’s most innovative postal services to create
new, efficient solutions. We have innovated and facilitated
the transition from traditional manual/mechanical mail
systems to intelligent new computerized sorting systems.
Our plastic trays for mail are customised to meet the needs
of over a dozen countries in Europe and Asia, including
the UK, France and Hong Kong.
RETAILING
Retail distribution poses special challenges: for example,
ensuring product safety, quality, and handling efficiency
during “the last 50 meters of the journey” to the retail
shelf; reducing or eliminating packaging waste; improving
global supply-chain efficiency to offset rising fuel costs.
Schoeller Arca Systems’ specially designed “ RetailReady” plastic containers minimise damage and facilitate
handling in the last 50 meters. Being reusable, they help
eliminate waste, and are equipped with tamper evidence
to ensure the safety of the contents and prevent pilfering.
To save on fuel, we offer modular containers for
multi-modal freight chains, and large high-capacity units
optimised for truck and ship containers.

Stack nest containers
We offer a comprehensive range of stack nest containers, which are
designed to reduce packaging costs. These containers are suitable for
the distribution of goods in a variety of industries. They optimise space
utilisation when stacked for distribution taking up to 70% less space when
nested for return transport or storage. All containers in the range are produced
in food industry approved, recyclable poly-propylene. They are all available with
both perforated or solid sides and bases, with capacities from 18 to 87 litres.

returnable packaging solution
The Integra range has several design features, which dramatically improve
productivity and reduce distribution costs in retail, wholesale and industrial
applications. It is designed for both automated and manual handling. The
containers secure the distribution of all sorts of valuable goods with an easyto-attach security seal that guarantees that the container can not be opened
without detection. When nested the containers save up to 70% in return transport. The Integra containers are UN certified.

Our R/RL-KLT containers are designed to satisfy the high demands imposed by automated logistics and materials handling systems. Available
in five sizes, with optional lids, these containers are considerably lighter and
have a higher volume capacity than previous KLT containers. Each container

Small boxes
The small box-system is based on the specific requirements of the automotive industry. The containers are available in modular sizes 800 x 600,
600 x 400 and 400 x 300 mm. All the containers have a height of 200 mm.
This means that they can be mixed and matched on a standard pallet without effecting stacking performance. The 600 x 400 lid can also be used to
cover two 400 x 300 containers. When nested for return or storage the containers take up to 80% less space.

PreLog® – foldable small containers
The design and construction of PreLog makes it Europe’s leading returnable container. PreLog is an efficient, hygienic distribution tool for either
manual or automated handling. PreLog has a minimum of recesses outside and inside, making it easy to wash and keep clean. Smooth walls and
base protect the contents, whilst perforated sides ensure a good air flow
to promote produce freshness. The upper rim is manufactured by using
gas-assisted injection moulding and designed with reinforcement ribs.
This gives a rigid container with the lowest possible weight.

EOS PALLETS
EOS® pallets
EOS pallets are the European standard for export pallets developed
by Schoeller Arca Systems as a solution for the tightened phyto-sanitary
regulations in many countries. Plastic pallets do not have to be pre-treated,
fumigated and are therefore an excellent alternative for wooden pallets without
any expensive paper administration and risk of refusal when entering the country
of destination. As they are made of recycled material they are also a cost effective
alternative. All racking loads are based on a bonded uniformly placed load, conform
ISO 8611-3.

Dollies – for easy handling
Our dollies are designed to facilitate safe and easy movement of crate
stacks. We have a wide range of dollies with a variety of base versions to
suit the varying dimensions of our containers. All our dollies are lightweight,
hygienic and suitable for use in cold stores and freezers. They are available in
a range of materials, with different wheels and castors to suit many applications.
The wheel dimension is 100 mm for all dollies except for 7772.830 which is 75 mm.

Floor slats – a good surface
is important
Our floor slats have a specially designed cushioned profile. This reduces
the strain placed on the back and legs from constant standing. The slats
can be combined and interlocked as you choose. Ramps and corners, for
dolly and trolley traffic, are available. The slats withstand most chemicals,
oils and weak acids and are suitable to use in temperatures between -10°C
and +80°C.
