Markus Man Overboard Scramble-net / Cradle / Scoop
SCN - vertical length 250 to 400 cm
Info sheet 1 - General info and instruction
The Markus MOB Scramble-net / Cradle / Scoop models SCN of vertical lengths 250 to 400 are designed as
MOB rescue-net for Work boats, pilot boats, patrol boats and public transport boats. Its main purpose is to
enable man overboard to climb on board or to hold to it while other methods are prepared. Alternatively it
can be used to scoop (parbuckle) an unconscious MOB on board in horizontal position. It is suitable for
rigid boats with fastening point from water between 80 cm (32”) and 250 cm (100”) +/- 20 cm (8”), depending
on vertical length of the unit.
Description
The SCN MOB Rescue-net is made of 25 mm (1“) white and black polyester webbing. An aluminium bar at the top
and an aluminium pipe at the bottom of the net respectively distribute the load. Core rods are used to stretch
the net structure to the sides, and down when released and ease use and packing. As standard it is packed in a
white PVC / Nylon fabric storage bag. Orange red, gray and black storage bags are optional as special orders.
Fastening, lowering and climbing instructions
The buckle loops have to be fastened to the boat such that they each take an
equal portion of the lifting load. This can be achieved in different ways
depending upon the boat. If the boat has either an existing rail these may be
used. Alternatively, fixing points (same number as number of link-pipe ropes) can
be secured to the inner side of the bulwark with welded eyes.
To make the unit mobile on board and easy to deploy, we offer as accessory a link pipe. This link pipe can be
equipped with fixed or adjustable fastening ropes with snap hooks for quick fastening to handrail or special eyes
inside bulwark or on wheelhouse, where there is no rail at the edge of the deck. We have also as accessory SS
rectangular link of 5 mm dia +clip + screws which can be supplied in pack of 7 for fixing to metal and GRP wall.
Basic use
Let the net hang straight down 1,5 metre into the sea as
the man overboard is pulled to the net and allowed to start to
climb. When there is no fender standing out from the side it is
important to use the knees to hold the net out or have distance
sheet to hold the net from the side below the deck.
Instructions for use to lift an unconscious person on board
To lift an unconscious or exhausted MOB up in horizontal position, let the net hang straight down as MOB is grasped
at the side of the boat with a boat hook equipped with a pull and push hook head and the pull-in line is swung to the
far side of him. The MOB is then positioned with shoulders and bottom in the net and the rescue-net is pulled up
around the far side of him. The MOB is then scooped (parbuckled) on board in the net.
Important notice:
• Have pull in lines always attached to the buckle loop at the same end of the net.
• Be attached to the wheelhouse with a safety line when there is no rail at the deck edge.
• Clean with fresh water after use in sea water and dry before repacking it into the storage bag.
