Director’s Corner
Remarks from Renee
Winter registration is
just around the corner, beginning on
November 28 for
residents and December 1 for nonresidents. Please
note that we are beginning registration 30 minutes earlier to coincide
with other Mentor Parks and Recreation Departments. Both in person
and online registration begins at
8:00 am. To give our members more
flexibility, we are now offering both
arthritis and weight training classes
in one day formats. Select one, two
or three days, whatever best suits
your need. We will no longer be offering half session programs. We have
found this too difficult to monitor.
Looking for something new this winter? Consider checking out the Chair
Yoga demo class or challenge a
buddy to a game of ping pong. Try
our new daytime ceramics class, join
your friends for indoor cornhole or
stop on in for a nutritious home
cooked lunch for only $3.50 served
daily from 11:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m.
Notes from Nick
Please join me in
thanking Lois Schaffer
for all her dedication
and hard work running
our Tuesday evening
and Friday afternoon
pinochle groups. Lois
has spent endless volunteer hours
making sure we have the best pinochle in the area! Lois completed
her tenure at the end of October.
We are still looking for an individual
or two to lead one or both of our Pinochle groups. We are also looking
for a few good volunteers to help
seniors with their basic computer questions. Please see
Nick or call 440-9745725 for more information.

Complimentary Memory
Screenings.
Monday, November 14,
11a.m. - 1 p.m.
Memory screenings are simple: they
average ten minutes and consist of
questions and tasks to assess memory. They do not diagnose any illness, but can indicate whether
someone should follow up with a full
medical exam, which could lead to
proper detection of a memory disorder. Free and confidential, but
please register for a 10 minute appointment.

Wed., November 9, 1:30 p.m.
The Kings Speech by Mark Logue.
Crisis rocked the British monarchy in
1936, when a shy, unexpected, and
speech-impaired king was thrust
forward to pull the country together
and inspire confidence after his
older brother, Edward VIII, abdicated. A speech therapist brought
new techniques and instilled selfassurance in the new king.
Barb Hauer from the Mentor Public Library leads the
discussion.
