The Speed-x Keys are one of the oldest traditions in radiocommunications. They were
designed by Les Logan in the 1930's, and after WW-II the business was sold to EF
Johnson who made them until 1975 when Bill Nye took over. Today they are made to the
same exacting standards in Priest River, Idaho. The bases are cast in the original 1930's
Les Logan sand molds and the hardware parts are custom machined for Nye. Supply is

uniHAM is one of the larger manufacturers of amateur radio
equipment in China. The UNI-730A dual paddle is a compact but
solid paddle capable of standing up to the rigors of portable
operation as well as providing excellent service in the shack.
The base measures 3 inches by 2-1/2 inches, with the levers extending another inch to the front.
Despite the small footprint, the UNI-730A weighs just under a pound (15.5 Oz) and it has non-skid
pads on the bottom for stability. Connection to rig or keyer is via a standard 3.5mm stereo phone

2015 Christmas Key

In Celebration of the Season...
Fifteenth in the series, our 2015 Christmas Key is a fully functional miniature camel-back telegraph
key commissioned by Morse Express and made by GHD Telegraph Key in Sendai City Japan
This year’s key features a relatively heavy oval base which is perfectly proportioned to distribute
the weight of the key and the downward keying force, providing a stable platform for comfortable
use. It measures 1¼" x 2" at the base. It is 1½" tall depending on adjustment, and it weighs just
over 2½ ounces.
The key is fully adjustable, with precision pin bearings, miniature binding posts, and hard silver
contacts. Lever tension is provided by compression spring forward of the trunnion post. Beneath
the lower contact is vibration dampener. The base is a deep plating of hard chrome over brass with
a mirror-bright finish. The knob is hand-turned ebony, and there is an anti-skid rubber pad on the
bottom. This is a miniature key that will be equally at home in the radio shack, in the field, or
decorating a Christmas tree.
The Morse Express 2015 Christmas Key is a limited edition of 150 keys priced at $89.95, plus

Preamplifier can be mounted inside a radio, or built as a stand-alone HF preamp (antenna

The OHR100A is a 5W transceiver kit offered for the 80, 40, 30, 20, or 15 meter band.
Some of the features include single signal superhet receiver design, an ultra-stable
pre-mix VFO system with high side L.O. injection and at least 70 KHz of tuning range on
each band.
The 4-pole crystal IF filter uses matched crystals and the bandwidth is adjustable from
1200 Hz to 400 Hz with front panel control. There are separate RF and AF gain controls,
making it easy to copy weak signals in difficult conditions. The RIT range is +/- 1 KHz.
Transmitting sidetone is provided by a sinewave oscillator with adjustments for frequency
and level.
There are test points on the board for use with your digital voltmeter during alignment.
Jacks are provided for headphones and speaker. The 100A can be used with stereo or
mono headphones.
The transmitter provides a full 5 watts of output (4 to 4.5W on 15M), variable from zero
to full output by means of a control accessible from the rear panel. The QSK circuit is
silky smooth. The 100A will operate on 12 - 13.8VDC. Current drain is 80mA on receive
and 850mA on transmit (measured at 13.6V). The 40 and 15 meter versions can be set up
for operation in the novice bands.
The completed transceiver measures (HWD) 2 ½" x 6" x 6" and weighs 24 oz. The kit is
complete with cabinet, high quality silk-screened and masked PCB, all components and
instructions. Alignment service is available, and the OHR100A can be built to order.

The Oak Hills Research WM-2 was designed specifically for the QRP operator. The unit
operates from 300 KHz to 54 MHz. It will measure forward and reflected power at QRP
levels down to 5mW or less. You can select from three full scale power ranges of 10W,
1W or 100mW with an accuracy of 5% of full scale on each range.
A rear panel switch allows you to select the internal 9V battery or external power jack for
the operating voltage.
The WM-2 uses a high quality custom-made meter movement with a large easy to read
scale. The meter circuit current drain is typically 1mA, making it great for portable use.
The wattmeter can be left in-line permanently with very little loss.
The kit is supplied with high quality SO-239 coax connectors, or use our BNC conversion kit (see page18). The WM-2 is easy to build and align– the alignment consist of
setting three voltages with your digital voltmeter. A source of RF is not required for
alignment.

The OHR DD-1 Digital Dial
& Frequency Counter Kit

The Oak Hills Research DD-1 is a six digit counter designed to be used as a digital dial
with all of our transceiver kits. It can also be used as a general purpose 100 Hz to 50 MHz
frequency counter, a digital dial for home built rigs, an add-on digital dial for commercial
transceivers, transmitters or receivers. The counter will operate with tube or solid state
equipment having a variable oscillator system up to 50 MHz. It will accommodate cases
where the oscillator tunes in reverse with respect to operating frequency. Direct frequency
readout can be displayed with any IF offset as long as the frequency being measured is 50
MHz or less.
Some of the advanced features of the DD-1 include anti-jitter code which reduces last
digit jitter, sixteen non-volatile stored offset and mode programs, five of which are push
button selectable from the front panel, programmable reverse counting for reverse tuning
VFOs, selectable direct frequency readout, and automatic display blanking to conserve
power when the frequency is not changing. You can also just blank the 100 Hz digit
and/or the megahertz digit if you so choose. The DD-1 has two switch selected input
connectors on the rear panel. One is used for direct frequency measurement and the other
for digital dial (programmed offset) applications. The DD-1 requires from 9 - 13.8VDC
for proper operation. The current drain is 100mA with all six digits active and 40mA with
all digits blanked.

100W RF Dummy Load Kit

The Oak Hills Research RFL-100 is our easiest kit, yet the finished unit is a practical
accessory of commercial quality and superior performance. It features 100W continuous
power dissipation (higher power for shorter periods) providing a non-inductive load to
144MHz. The RFL-100 uses 20 metal-oxide resistors on a high-temperature circuit board
with 2 Oz copper traces for shared power and heat dissipation. Connection is via an SO239 with gold plated pin, or use our SB conversion kit for BNC. Resistance is within 2%
of the nominal 50 ohms– much closer than can be achieved with single carbon resistors
used in commercial units.

The alignment fee is for completely assembled kits, but does include minor repairs (at our
