Working in both still photography and video, Montreal- and Vancouver-based artist Adad
Hannah creates tableaux vivants based on masterpieces and curious scenarios depicting
viewers interacting with art. While Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights, Diego
Velázquez’s Las Meninas, and Théodore Géricault’s The Raft of the Medusa have all factored
into recent projects, sculptor Auguste Rodin emerges as a recurring influence, evidenced by
Hannah’s role-reversing riff on The Age of Bronze, his use of Korean motorcycle couriers to
bring Les Bourgeois de Calais to life in Seoul, and his video Eros and Aphrodite — one of
several pieces highlighted in Fotoseptiembre’s “Intimate Encounters.” A guaranteed crowdpleaser, the show’s latest-breaking component employs San Antonio art-scenesters as models.
