LIFES CONTINUING

A
t heart, I’m a true adventurer, a dreamer
and traveler. If only for a brief moment,
I imagine myself living in that distant
land that I’m visiting. Usually when I’m alone,
I seem to be drawn to these feelings, whether
walking through an open market in Zhanjiang
China, roaming the deserted back streets of
a small village outside of Quito Ecuador or
visiting my favorite place, St. John in the US
Virgin Islands. These moments let me dream
then reflect in the pool of my own life and see
what I’m truly grateful for. This past December,
I found one of those moments on the dollar
bus in St. Thomas. I had quite the day and it
ended with a very special gift.
This past December, while vacationing in St.
John, we took a short hike out to Watermelon
Bay to go snorkeling and enjoy the wild life.
Unknown to me, I dropped the only car keys
to my rental on the trail. While on a small
island that we all swam out to, a woman asked
me if we lost a set of keys. I didn’t realize that
I lost the keys at that time, but I had a strong
feeling they were mine. The woman gave us
specific directions as to where she left them
on the side of the trail. When we got back to
our bags on shore, sure enough, they were
missing. Looking high and low all over the
path, but never found the keys. Luckily, a
gentleman and his young daughter were kind
enough to give us a ride back to the other
side of the island.
The whole ordeal put a big dent in my
ego. Aren't I supposed to be the provider,
protector and leader of my family? How
could this happen? I some how felt that I was
wasting to valuable time in paradise while
letting everyone down. 6 am the following
day came early. I was eager to get the 1st
ferry to St Thomas and put an end to this lost
key ordeal. The only way to get a new set of
keys was to go all the way back to the airport
on St Thomas. Feeling out of sorts and not
looking forward to the day’s journey, I started
walking to the ferry dock in the center of
Cruz Bay. On our walk back to our condo on
the previous day, we passed the local church
during services. It was surprisingly peaceful
listening to the whole congregation singing
their hearts out to gospel hymns. Today it

was silent and gave me a moment to reflect.
The congregation’s strong faith and charisma
had transformed my frustrating day into a
moment of gratitude. I was grateful that I had
found happiness despite my previous day’s
impression of life.
Earlier in my life, true happiness seemed
elusive. Finding my wife Angela, getting
married, and having two boys Koen and Kane,
has given me true meaning and purpose
to my life. Having my mom still with me, as
well as owning my own business and the
relationship with all of my employees, gives
my life even more purpose. That morning,
these realizations are what I thanked God. Life
is still a work in progress, but now, happiness
and being grateful is no longer elusive, it a
way of live.
After my brief ferry ride basking in the sun on
the top deck, I needed a lift to the other side
of the island, so I traveled on the "dollar bus".
I instantly knew my wife would love this. The
dollar bus is an informal pickup style vehicle
with bench seats, only 2 bucks to travel to the
airport side of St Thomas. All locals use it to
go to work, school, or just travel about the
island. At this point of our vacation, 8 days
in, I was basically a beach bum. I had the
best tan I’ve had in a long time. Wearing
my camouflage cut off shorts, sandals, white
cut off tee shirt and beach hat pulled down,
I was probably as close to being a local as
any one had ever seen. This is when I found
one of those moments and went with it. No
hurry, and no worry of work, some distant
previous life’s responsibility. I greeted all new
passengers with a customary “good morning”
and enjoyed the scenery as I traveled to
Charlotte Amalie, living the life of an islander.
While traveling I was feeling melancholy,
about what, I'm not sure, but still, I was

If you want to be a part of the design project for your home and before you hire a
decorator or designer to help you, do a little homework of your own.
1)Find out what you like—what is it in that decorating magazine or on all those
shows that makes you say WOW—I WANT that . You may also find inspiration in a
hotel or resort you’ve vacationed at.
2)What is your budget? Be realistic. Should this be a remodel or a total gut job?
Whatever your budget is add another 10% to be comfortable and safe.
3)Put together a storyboard of all the ideas and pictures you’ve cut out or taken
which is very similar to what a decorator or designer would do.
4)Create a timeline and stick to it.
5) Have the confidence to get the project off the ground.
6)Now it’s time to meet with your design professional and with all the work you’ve
done to prepare there is no doubt that that she or he will mis –interpret what you
want.

thinking of God. I do believe in God, but it’s more of a hide and seek
relationship, hiding more than seeking. I do have faith, but still missing that
connection. I asked God, "If you hear me, send me a sign, let me see a
humming bird". Yes, I know, being in the Caribbean, I may have well have
asked to see sunshine or a coconut tree but that was the first thing that came to
mind. Now, I didn’t really expect one to come up and just land on my shoulder,
but being the impatient one, I immediately started looking for humming birds
everywhere. I was looking on flowers, on signs and painted on the vehicles
passing by. But no, and soon the thought passed as quickly as it arrived.
I got the spare key, got back to St John and hitched a ride to the other side of
the island. As soon as I got into the car, I found my original keys. Someone had
found them on the trail and put them behind the side mirror, actually behind
the glass in the mirror housing. They were there the whole time! After a short
ride back to my room and resting from my ordeal, we decided to go back to
Watermelon Bay where I lost the keys. I never did get to hike up to Windy Hill
to see the ruins and photograph the bay below. This was a "must visit location"
for photos. We had lunch, gathered our stuff and headed out.

1 Large Onion Diced
1 14oz -Can of Diced Tomato
1 can Kidney Beans (14oz)
1 14oz can of corn
1tbs Worcestershire sauce
2 tbs chili powder or to taste
1/2 tbs garlic Powder
Salt & Pepper to taste
Direction: add ground beef & diced onion, oil.
Cook until no longer pink add rest of ingredient
simmer for 35-40 minutes. Serve with corn bread.

The drive was short and the hike was brief, only taking 20 minutes to walk out
to Watermelon Bay. From the beach below and the hike out, you can see the
old ruins of the great house pushing through wild flowers and over growth
above. This was Windy Hill. When we got the beach, I immediately dropped my
pack like a hot potato and headed out with my camera gear. When I get on a
good trail to hike, I’m like a Gazelle, a lean, mean, breathing machine. Swift and
focused, I couldn't wait to get there. At a rapid pace, the hike was exhilarating
and I was there in 15 minutes.
As I turned around the corner of the path at the top of Windy Hill, I saw
crumbling stairs leading upwards. I carefully walked up the stairs paying close
attention not to walk on fragile loose bricks. I pushed up over the last few
stairs, gasped with amazement and said out loud, "You have got to be kidding
me". This was the most beautiful place I have ever been to in St. John. Like
a cornfield maze with no end, the footprint of the old home was sprawling.
Most of all the walls were still completely intacked. With room after room,
I could imagine the beautiful home, and fortunate family that lived there.
Beautiful fuchsia colored wild flowers with interwoven vines where now growing
everywhere over the crumbling structure. Underneath a good size tree, there
was a picnic table waiting to be encountered. Late day, looking in all directions,
the view was hard to believe. There were mesmerizing views to the bay below
and the British Virgin Islands beyond. The light wasn't the best but that wasn't
going to stop me, I spent the next 15 to 20 minutes taking photos in all
directions.
Just when I thought I was done, when I was all packed up, I found a great spot
from where take a wide-angle shot. I could get the wild flowers, tree, picnic
table and a lot of the foundation in the photo. I stood on, and carefully leaned
over a crumbling foundation wall. From here, I began to take some of my best
photos. There was a small, old dead branch coming into the top of the photo
and contemplated whether or not to work it into some of the shots. I did, and
leaned out to bring my camera around the front of the branch that I needed to
hold on to. I took two or three shots. Then to my amazement, a humming bird
landed on that branch only feet in front of me. Still and calm, she came to visit
me, almost as if she was posing for me. She was so close to me, I could almost
touch her. The bird remained there for 3 to 4 photos then vanished as quickly as
it appeared.
Not until later did I realize the significance of that bird. In this ever changing
Wheel of Fortune that we call life, we overlook the obvious, discount what
appears to be coincidences of our everyday existence and look deeper for
answers about our own lives that are within our own grasp the whole time.
Look no further than your own family, your friends and loved ones. What is the
purpose of your life? That's easy, be happy, be grateful for the abundance in
your life, live in the moment, and help others get through their life. Most of all,
acknowledge your everyday miracles
and give thanks. Yes, we’re always heard,
never alone and never gone unnoticed.
Everything has a meaning, everything has
a purpose and everything has a time.

Welcome and thanks for joining us for another
issue of Gregory J., Home. Sorry for the delay
on our follow up to our last newsletter, but
alas, we are here and better than ever. Two
significant changes at Gregory J.’s..
ONE, simply put, WE ARE MOVING!!! Yes,
moving the store. The Broad Street Parkway
has finally come to fruition and our building
is being torn down. To us, this is a blessing in
disguise. Our new location is “TOP SECERET”
but is still in the Nashua or Greater Nashua
area. The location is 10,000 sf., (significantly
larger than our current home) doubling the size
of our current showroom. This will enable us
to develop the store into a “Design Center”
offering more products and services. Anyone
who knows us, knows it will be “OVER THE
TOP”. Estimated time of the move will be the
first quarter of 2011.
TWO, my wife has moved on to her “dream
job” at Westinghouse Nuclear component
division in Newington NH., a great opportunity
to put her talent to work and realize her full
potential. She has been a driving force in the
development and fiscal responsibility of the
store and will be deeply missed.
Thankfully, we have developed the best
flooring team since the opening of the store.
Our continuing success shows in record
sales and a loyal following to many new and
repeat customers. Once again, thanks for your
continuing support.
