MARSOC Foundation Progress Report
Since 2012, the MARSOC Foundation has provided over $1.15 million in support to the
MARSOC community, including over $120,000 so far in 2016. Our donors, fundraisers and
advocates comprise an incredible team of people who have made a difference in the
MARSOC community. Thank you to everyone who has helped the MARSOC Foundation
remain mission-ready and able to respond when help is needed! Recent support includes:

Supporting the Celebration of Life held for Master Sergeant Eden Pearl, including
funding for family travel and for the reception following the Celebration of Life
ceremony.
A wreath is laid at the memorial being
constructed in Navarre, Florida that will
honor the 7 MARSOC Marines and 4
National Guardsmen lost last March

Supporting Raider 7 family travel for the Remember the Black Hawk 11 Event held in
Navarre, Florida. The commemorative events, hosted by the Leadership Santa Rosa
Class 29 and the community of Navarre, included private events for the families of the
seven MARSOC Raiders and four National Guardsmen lost in the Black Hawk helicopter crash on March 10, 2015, as
well as events open to the public. The events concluded with ruckers of the Marine Raider Memorial March embarking
on their 10-day, 700+ mile journey from Florida to North Carolina, marching to honor the Raider 7.

Funding to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for two MARSOC families dealing with family health emergencies, including
lodging and air travel for family members brought in to help support the families.

One-time transition assistance grants for 8 MARSOC Marines and Sailors separating from the military and re-entering
the civilian sector.

Continued support for the family of a MARSOC Marine seriously injured in the fall of 2015 who remains hospitalized
as he continues to make progress on his road to recovery.

FundRAGER a Raving Success!
On December 19th, Tim and Linzy Collins hosted a FundRAGER, also known as a
party with a purpose, to commemorate a “business trip” bon voyage. Thanks to a great
venue provided by the owners of Wonderland Ocean Pub and the generosity of family,
friends and local businesses, the gathering raised over $6,000 for the MARSOC
Foundation. In true Tim and Linzy fashion, nothing was left to chance. Guests were
treated to some delicious food and drink, music, dancing, and a slide show capturing
candid moments from Tim’s professional and personal life. Tim recognized fallen
Marines and Sailors of MARSOC by reading each of their names and following with a
moment of silence.
The MARSOC Foundation would like to thank Tim and Linzy for continuing to spread
the word about the MARSOC Foundation and its mission. These are two amazing people who are loved by many and support a wide
range of military-based charities! The MARSOC Foundation would also like to thank: Brendan Huffman, Owner of Wonderland Ocean
Pub, for providing the perfect venue for the event; Tim and Linzy’s family and friends, who both volunteered and attended the event; and
Raffle Prize Donors, including SciFly, Pacific Coast Skydiving, West Coast VIP Gaming, Swarovski Crystal, Michelle & Damien
Photography, San Diego Padres, Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, Performance 360, Aaron Kruse’s That Bus, Scott Tucker’s Be Financially
Fit, Everyday California, VAVI Sport and Social Club, Bullets2Bandages, Slacker Radio, Haute Spa Salon, Bellini Beauty Bar, The

participated in the event!
Sacramento MEPS Dedicates Ceremony Room in
Memory of Staff Sergeant Sky Mote
On March 4, the Sacramento Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) honored the
service and sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Sky Mote by dedicating their ceremony room in
his name. The MEPS is where recruits from all branches of service come to take the
Oath of Enlistment. This is the second MEPS to dedicate its Ceremony Room in
memory of a fallen MARSOC Marine, as the MEPS in Santa Jose, California dedicated
its Ceremony Room in memory of Captain Matthew Manoukian back in August of 2013.
SSgt. Mote’s family was present, along with extended family, friends and service
members who had served with SSgt. Mote.

The honor wall includes SSgt. Mote’s uniform and medals, his Navy Cross Citation, an

lateral move to become an Explosive Ordinance Technician in the Marine Corps. In his
letter, SSgt. Mote stated, “You work hard and you get to see the results of your work in
the faces of the Marines and Sailors who were threatened. I want to do this job so I can be trained to be the one people count on when a
hairy situation presents itself, and to jump in and remove the threat. Every Marine joins to make a difference, and I see EOD as an
exciting, challenging and rewarding way for me to make a difference.”
David Benjes & Dawn2Dusk Deliver Once
Again!
For the third year in a row, the winter mountain bike challenge known as Dawn2Dusk
provided the MARSOC Foundation with a fun venue to raise funds and awareness in the
Arizona mountains. The December 12th event challenged mountain bikers to tackle the
trails of Mount McDowell Regional Park, as well as deal with some interesting twists and
turns courtesy of Mother Nature. Thanks goes out to our amazing Arizona-based group
of volunteers, who pitched in from Thursday to Saturday, helping with pre-race logistics,
race day support, selling raffle tickets, and peddling coffee and donuts! Race director
David Benjes put together a super event, which helped to raise over $6,100 for the

slinging donuts and coffee...a little bit of everything!
The MARSOC Foundation would like to thank David Benjes and his DCB Extreme
Adventures Team for continuing to support the MARSOC Foundation with the Dawn2Dusk event. We would also like to thank our
awesome volunteers: John and Donna, Bernie and Dan, Patrick and Theresa, Bill S., Paul, Tim N., Josh, John G. and Tulip, Leslie,
Christina and John, Bill B., Judson, Tim G., Scott and John R. Thank you also goes out to Tonja Meyer for donating the tempting and
tasty donuts that went great with hot coffee and cocoa on a chilly December day! Thank you to our raffle prize donors: Paul Neal and
Bicycle Vibe, Joe Berman and Sunday Cycles, John Metzger, Free Wheel Foundation, and Brian from GIANT. The MARSOC
Foundation also thanks the participants of Dawn2Dusk, as well as their family and friends who came out to cheer them on, for their
overwhelming support, purchasing raffle tickets and partaking in coffee, cocoa and donuts throughout the day!

LtCol Oliver North to Speak May 13th in Scottsdale Arizona at
5th Annual Evening with the MARSOC Foundation
Hosted by the Free Wheel Foundation!
In 2012, the Free Wheel Foundation partnered with the Scottsdale Gun Club to host the 1st Annual Evening with
the MARSOC Foundation, an event that raised over $30,000 and enabled the MARSOC Foundation to provide
support following the loss of 7 MARSOC Marines during July and August of that year. Over the past 4 years, the
event has raised over $215,000 for the MARSOC Foundation. This year, guests have the opportunity to purchase a
VIP Experience that includes a meet and greet with LtCol Oliver North, as well as an exclusive VIP Swag Bag.
LtCol North will address the crowd prior to the Live Auction after the VIP Reception. Food trucks, coffee carts,
and vendor displays will be placed at the venue. Events include remarks by LtCol North, a raffle, silent auction and
live auction. Silent auction items will be placed online for mobile and online bidding (so if you won’t be able to attend, you can still bid
on some great items!).
This year’s event will be raising funds for the MARSOC Foundation’s 2016 Resiliency and Remembrance Event, a multi-day event for
the families of fallen MARSOC Marines and Sailors that nurtures existing friendships amongst the families and current and former
MARSOC personnel, as well as creates new connections through the annual gathering. The 2015 inaugural event was held in California,
and this year’s event will be held in North Carolina, with the intent being to alternate between the East and West Coasts. The event
honors MARSOC’s fallen heroes, as well as keep the families connected with one another and the MARSOC community. Registration is
required, so please visit http://bidpal.net/eveningwithraiders to purchase tickets! If you are interested in sponsoring the event, please
contact Sarah Christian at [email protected] or by phone at 951-551-9309.

Weather Doesn’t Dampen “Unconquerable
Spirit” of 2015 Croatan 24 Participants
(L to R) Jody Fletcher &
William Roberts
at the Croatan 24
On November 7th and 8th, ultra runners scoffed at a 20-degree temperature
drop from start to finish, winds in excess of 18 mph, and over an inch of rain
as they racked up miles during the Croatan 24, a 24-hour endurance event
held in Eastern North Carolina. The day’s events began by celebrating the
Marine Corps Birthday, complete with cake cutting and reading of the
Commandant’s USMC Birthday message. In recognition of Veterans Day,
the first lap of the race included the carrying of our Nation’s flag, along with
flags representing each branch of service. 108 brave souls started the race,
with the top male and female finishers completing 115.7 and 96.4 miles
respectively in 24 hours! Congratulations to everyone who participated in
and sponsored the event, and we’d like to give a big shout out to Race
Director Brandon Wilson for including the MARSOC Foundation once again
as the event’s charity partner! A special thank you to Miles for MARSOC
Community Athletes who participated: William Roberts; Jody Fletcher;
Keith, Jen, Kersten and Brendan of the Parrella Family; Bessie Bernstein;
and Barb Dohlen! Over $6,500 was raised through their efforts! A truly
phenomenal job by a great group of people! Thank you for your support!

Miles for MARSOC Community Athletes Revving Up
for a New Year!
Cat Freeman
checking another
race off her
calendar
The Miles for MARSOC program would like to welcome its newest 2016 Community Athletes: Chris
Johnson, Daniel Buckley, Joe Sommers, Justine Whipple, and Rachel Beckman! Van Petty, our
youngest Community Athlete at 9 years old, is extremely motivated to do his very best in his racing
and fundraising efforts! Vic Ziliani, one of our very first Community Athletes, returns to add to his
incredible fundraising total of over $10,000! Catherine Freeman is continuing her “Race a Month”
endeavor and is edging closer to that $2,000 goal! We would like to congratulate William Roberts on
earning a race kit by raising over $2,000 in conjunction with his running of the Croatan 24 (Will is 13
years old and ran for 24 hours...how awesome is that?)!
We have some new features to help our Community Athletes achieve their fundraising goal, including a “Go Social”
sharing option on Facebook, and mobile apps that allow you fully manage your campaign and take donations from
your mobile device! There are also newly designed race kits our Community Athletes can earn by raising $2,000 in
donations! All great reasons to come on board as a Miles for MARSOC Community Athlete! To learn how you can
join the Miles for MARSOC program or support a Community Athlete, please visit our landing page at Miles for
MARSOC or send an email to [email protected].
