T
he Museum is happily in full swing—welcoming guests from hither
and yon as well as familiar friends and neighbors. As we transition
into mid-season I would like to encourage you to visit our fabulous
new exhibit Transitional Glass – The Art of Debbie Tarsitano. I find this
exhibition especially compelling because it shows not only great glass—
but the evolution of a glassblower. Surely there is nothing more interesting
than viewing the growth of an artist through their chosen medium. And
unlike two dimensional art, glass has the ability to change form and
function as well as visual and tactile expression. Join us for the Member’s
Preview on July 31st. The exhibit opens to the public on August 1st.
As summer segues into fall, mark your calendar for two other annual
events. The 26th Annual Cape Cod Antique Glass Show and Sale will
be held Saturday and Sunday, September 7th and 8th at Corpus Christi
Church. New additions to the show include vendors of stained glass,
Victorian art glass and silvered mercury glass. So bring your curiosity and
your questions and make it a destination. Proceeds benefit the Museum.
Then, making its triumphant return, visit the 2nd Annual PumpkinFest
on Saturday October 26th held in the pumpkin tent in the lower lot. Glass
pumpkins of all shapes, colors and sizes will be available for the collector
and impulse buyer alike. This is the perfect opportunity to acquire some
fabulous autumnal decorations that needn’t be carved or composted.
The winter season arrives mid-November with our 4th Annual Glassblowers’
Christmas. This is truly a magical time at the Museum, when we are
adorned, inside and out, with glass Christmas decorations. The special
exhibition this year will be Christmas Crèches – In the Company of Angels,
curated with the help of the Cape Cod Crèche Society. Don’t miss this
fascinating take on a traditional holiday favorite.
On a sad note, we lost one of our biggest supporters, former Trustee, Lois
Hirschmann in early March. She was just shy of her 100th birthday. But
the Hirschmann family continues to support us, and we look forward to
displays of fabulous glass from Lois’ collection which she generously chose
to share with us.
Truly our Museum rarely stands still—always planning, always changing.
But one thing that doesn’t change is our commitment to you, our loyal
members and supporters, in sharing the history and beauty of Sandwich
and its glass. Thank you for your continued interest and support.
We couldn’t do this without you.

Special Exhibit
Transitional Glass
The Art of Debbie Tarsitano
T
he Sandwich Glass Museum is proud to present the
special exhibition, Transitional Glass, a retrospective
display of the artwork of famed glass artist Debbie
Tarsitano. Debbie Tarsitano has worked full-time as a
hot glass artist since 1976 and is one of the pioneering
women of the art glass movement. The exhibit, Transitional Glass, reveals how her work has evolved in both
design and technique over her nearly forty year artistic
career. From early oil paintings to hot glass techniques
2
such as flamework encasement, hot sculpting, glass
casting, and Pate de Verre jewelry, the exhibition is a
timeline of Ms. Tarsitano’s body of work.
A special Members’ Preview of the exhibit will be held
on July 31 for Museum members and guests from
5:30 - 7:30 pm. An exciting feature of the opening will
be a live “Glass Jewelry Show”. The show will highlight
Ms. Tarsitano’s latest cast Pate de Verre jewelry that
will be modeled by local talent. The exhibit opens to
the public on August 1 and closes November 3, 2013.
Never complacent, the art of Debbie Tarsitano is ever
evolving, ever transitioning, making this exhibit a must
see for one and all.

Christmas Crèches
In the Company of Angels
B
eginning November 19, Christmas Crèches - In
the Company of Angels will once again grace the
Museum’s special exhibition gallery. The focus of
this year’s display is angels and their appearance in
the nativity scene.
Angels or winged human figures have been the
subject of artists since the time of the ancient Greek
and Mesopotamian civilizations. Over the centuries, artists’ interpretations of angels often reflected
their culture and religion, but the concept of a
winged being remained the same. The inclusion of
angels in nativity scenes was a natural progression.
With the expansion of the crèche beyond the core
figures of Mary, Joseph, and the infant Jesus, artists
added angels, heralding the birth of Jesus, as well
as animals, shepherds and the Magi into their often
complex interpretations of the nativity scene.
In partnership with the Cape Cod Crèche Society,
the exhibition will feature the rare and exotic, with
nativity scenes from around the world. Christmas
Crèches, In the Company of Angels will be on display
from November 19 until December 30, 2013.
