Message
from the
CEO
Happy New Year from all of the staff and Board of
Directors at MCFCU! Your Credit Union has been
faced with new challenges and issues due to the
economic environment in 2010. Through it all, you’ll be glad to know
that MCFCU is financially strong and ready and able to take on new
challenges in 2011.
First, the bad news! An increase in delinquent loans both in the consumer
and real estate has forced MCFCU to increase its Allowance for Loan
& Lease Losses significantly in 2010. In addition all federally insured
credit unions, including MCFCU, has had to pay a premium fee to the
Corporate Stabilization Fund and to the NCUSIF premium fund. These
assessments were mandated by the National Credit Union Administration
(NCUA) who are the Federal regulators for Credit Unions.
The result has been a reduction in dividends for all share (savings) accounts. Our members for years have enjoyed the benefit of high yielding,
above market rates on all savings accounts. As a member-owned cooperative, when delinquencies are on the rise, and the credit union absorbs
losses, it affects ALL our members. Although rates were reduced, you’ll
find that they are still competitive with the other financial institutions.
The good news! The Maui Market Place branch in Kahului opened in
April 2010. The additional branch has provided another alternative
location and conveniently located in Central Maui. The office hours at the
Maui Market Place branch was also extended and the Saturday banking
was re-located to Kahului.
MCFCU continues have strong earnings and is well capitalized. Loan
growth has been on a slight decline but still remains strong.
As we embark on a new year, MCFCU remains committed to serving you,
our members, the very best products & services with the friendly smile!
