And world-class entertainment is at the heart of the Royal Caribbean experience. Our expansive program is unrivaled at sea as we are the only cruise line using multiple media – stage, ice, air, water and virtual technology – to produce amazing, memorable shows across our fleet. Featuring incredible talent from around the world and the highest production values, our array of performances brings excitement and sizzle to every guest’s vacation experience. NICK WEIR Vice President | Entertainment BEHIND THE CURTAIN: ROYAL CARIBBEAN PRODUCTIONS® Royal Caribbean’s in-house production company creates, choreographs, casts and rehearses original shows for 25 ships. Designed for guests of all ages, these shows star an international cast of singers, dancers, actors, tumblers and aerialists accompanied by a 9-piece professional theater orchestra. Behind the scenes are a stage-production manager, sound, video and light technicians, and riggers, using high-quality, professional equipment. But that’s not all. ALISON FRAZIER Director | Entertainment and Guest Activities On the Royal Promenade, the heart of 11 ships in the fleet, guests delight in parades, featuring music, dancing and colorful costumes, and themed parties that attract hundreds, plus flashmob dances and other surprise entertainment moments. These ships also have ice-skating rinks in Studio B. Here guests can take a spin on the ice and also watch professional skaters in stunning spectacles that showcase their skill and virtuosity. Vision and Radiance class ships have a different design. Their hub is a central atrium that spans six decks high, where glass elevators and balconies overlook the gathering area below. This soaring space, called the Centrum, was recently reimagined as an entertainment venue. Newly installed lights, sound system, rigging and aerial artistry transform the space into a dramatic vertical theater for shows that cannot be missed. The unique design of the Centrum allows guests to enjoy these performances from a variety of perspectives, depending on their location. CHRISTI COACHMAN-ORENGO Director | Entertainment - Royal Caribbean Productions Select ships in the fleet offer the DreamWorks Experience, a multifaceted partnership between Royal Caribbean and the maker of such hit film franchises as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar. Special character appearances, film screenings (including premieres) and themed activities are popular with fans of all ages. THE POWER OF IMAGINATION ROYAL CARIBBEAN BY THE NUMBERS The launch of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas® in 2009 revolutionized cruising with a design that introduced the idea of distinct neighborhoods around the ship. Among its signature features is the AquaTheater, an amphitheater-style venue with a high-dive pool, synchronized fountains and lighting, and oversized screens. A Royal Caribbean exclusive found only on Oasis Class ships, these open-air venues are the setting for thrilling dive shows and other unique performances that make a splash. Guests: 3.9+ million annually Oasis of the Seas® also was the first ship to bring an award-winning musical to the high seas. Following the smash reception of Hairspray, Royal Caribbean’s Broadway at Sea lineup has showcased Chicago, Saturday Night Fever, Mamma Mia!, CATS and We Will Rock You! Included in the cruise at no additional cost to guests, these full-length productions draw standing-room-only crowds who are delighted to discover the same rich theatrical experience found on London’s West End and New York’s Broadway, right onboard. MEET THE FLEET A QUANTUM LEAP Royal Caribbean’s entertainment program made another huge leap with the launch of the Quantum Class in 2014. The world’s first smart ships are home to the Two70 lounge, equipped with groundbreaking Vistarama technology and the dynamic Roboscreens – a set of 7-foot-tall screens that move in unison. By day, guests enjoy amazing views from oversized windows that wrap around the ship and rise two decks high. After the sunset, they are transported to other realms by a seamless digital projection system with 12K resolution that surpasses even IMAX screens. Artistry and technology meet in multimedia productions that combine digital imagery, sound and visual effects, and a diverse group of players (musicians, aerialists, dancers and other performers) and defy categorization. Here the only limit is our imagination, and original shows like Starwater and Spectra’s Cabaret have generated some of the highest ratings ever from our guests. BEST IN CLASS Royal Caribbean’s actors, singers, dancers, musicians, aerialists, acrobats, divers and skaters come from around the world to showcase their talents on our ships. Our passion for creating world-class entertainment is supported by millions of dollars in investments. In December 2014, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Florida International University forged the Royal@FIU World Stage Collaborative, a multi-faceted partnership that includes a dedicated production studio facility in Miami. Located on the university’s north campus, it is nearly 130,000 square feet of rehearsal rooms and studios, aerial training and conditioning studios, plus areas for costume maintenance and storage. Throughout the year, some 1,000 cast members will train and rehearse here for more than 120 different productions for Royal Caribbean International.
