YMCA OF LENAWEE COUNTY 2016 FALL PROGRAM GUIDE MEMBERSHIP Membership Information: Scholarship Program Membership benefits include recreational use of the YMCA for age 6 months and above, as well as free group exercise classes, free wellness orientation, free child watch, and reduced fees on programs. For the safety of our youth members, there are some age restrictions and guidelines related to the use of the wellness center and iron courts. The YMCA of Lenawee County believes that no one should be denied access to our programs and membership based on their ability to pay. Through our Scholarship Program, the Y provides assistance to youth, adults and families based on individual needs and circumstances. See a Member Services representative for more information. Corporate Membership: AWAY Program The YMCA of Lenawee County provides area businesses of all sizes with special corporate membership rates. Companies that have at least five employees who join the Y are eligible. For a list of our current corporate relations and additional information, please call 263-2151. Visiting members from out of town YMCAs are always welcome. Just present your Y card at the front desk. If you’re in town for an extended stay beyond 4 weeks, please contact our Membership Department for assistance. A Family membership is one or two adults and their dependents living in the same household. College Student is a full-time student with 12 credit hours or more. Current class schedule must be provided each semester to continue to qualify for this rate. Health Center includes a personal lock & locker in an adults-only locker room, sauna, steam room*, private lounge area, unlimited towels and laundry service. Steam room available only in the Men’s Health Center. 2 2 Military Memberships Active duty (title 10) military personnel may be eligible to receive a complimentary adult/family membership. Families of servicemen or women who are deployed receive a complimentary membership for the duration of deployment. Civilians who have enlisted, receive a complimentary month prior to leaving for boot camp. Contact our Membership Director to determine your eligibility. Y FITNESS PASS: CLASS IS IN SESSION! REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 20 DATES: Weeks of September 20 - October 27 Novice Tumbling Ages 2-4 learning basic motor skills. Following basic class directions, learning how to take turns, hop, skip, front & back rolls, handstands, etc. Tuesdays from 6:00-7:00PM Beginner Tumbling Athletes must be 4 years old to be enrolled in this class. Basic tumbling skills including front rolls, handstands, cartwheels, handstand limbers and bridges. Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00PM Intermediate Tumbling Athlete must have mastered a cartwheel before being enrolled in this class. High emphasis will be placed on handstand limbers, front walkover and back walkover without instructor assistance. Thursday from 6:00-7:00PM YOUTH VOLLEYBALL* Join us for the #1 youth volleyball in the area! Our youth volleyball program has produced some amazing players. Players will learn the fundamentals of hitting, setting, passing, spiking, and more! The season will consist of Saturday games with weekday practices. Dates: Saturdays, September 24– October 29 Times: Between 9am-11am start times Location: Piotter Center Leagues: 6-7, 8-9, 10-12, 13-15 Fee: $30 Y members or City residents $40 non-members/non-resident REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 21st Preseason Evaluations are September 21st at the YMCA Main Gym Times: Ages 6-7 No Evaluations Ages 8-9 6:00-7:00 p.m. Ages 10-12 7:00-8:00 p.m. Ages 13-15 8:00-9:00 p.m. 4 YOUTH SPORTS NFL FLAG FOOTBALL LITTLE KICKERS * Flag football is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport, for ages 6-12. This is an NFL-sponsored league, with authentic NFL team logo reversible jerseys and flags provided! Our Little Kickers soccer program helps develop crucial basic motor skills for boys and girls. Kids can be right next to their parent/guardian. The Y will provide 1 guard per participant. Week one for flag league will have practice prior to game, and then weekday practices thereafter. Parent coaches are welcome! LITTLE DRIBBLERS * Our Little Dribblers will learn crucial basic motor skills and can be right next to their parent/ guardian. We have short hoops for children of all sizes and skills. Class will consist of fun, progressive, skill learning drills with friendly competition. This program is provided in partnership with the City of Adrian. Dates: Starting in November LITTLE SNAPPERS (AGES 3-5) YOUTH BASKETBALL A fun, instructional season that is a great beginner sport for your little football player! Times: Tuesdays at 5:30-6:30pm Our youth basketball league is a fun way to learn new skills and be apart of a great team that focuses on teamwork, friendly competition, and most of all fun! Everyone has equal playing time and teams are made to be as even as possible. Friday, October 28th, 6pm-8pm at the Y in Adrian. This is a FREE family event, open to the community. We’re all about family fun! Here are some great activities you can expect at the Family Fun Night: COSTUME CONTEST w/ prizes @ 7:00pm Fun family games w/ prizes, starting at 6:00pm in the main gym Bounce House and FREE open swim Family hayrides starting at 6:00pm, with “Haunted Hayrides” starting when it gets dark Crafts, snacks & beverages will also be available Plus, a DJ will be in the main gym, playing some great music to keep the party going! 6 HEALTH & WELLNESS FREE WELLNESS COACHING FREE GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES Schedule your appointment to meet one-on-one with our wellness staff to discuss your personal health & wellness goals, familiarize yourself with our program offerings, and to answer any questions you have. Stop by the Membership Desk for a current schedule of class days and times! 7 SWIM LESSONS At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for every child, teen and adult. In swim lessons, we use a variety of methods to help children and adults build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. It's not too late to learn how to swim! SEPTEMBER 13-OCTOBER 29 Registration open through September 13 NOVEMBER 1-DECEMBER 17 Registration open through November 1 Each class meets once a week and classes run 30 to 45 minutes in length depending on the level of the class. Parent will learn how to positively and creatively encourage water skills through instruction and play as their child becomes more comfortable in the water. The Gators have been swimming for over 30 years, and have provided a great environment for swimmers of all skill levels, from raw beginners to qualifiers for the National Y swim meet held annually in North Carolina. The team goal is to help each swimmer develop and grow both as an athlete and as a person. The Gators strive to be not just a group of individuals, but a family. The YMCA of Lenawee County offers fully-customizable swim lessons, because we understand that sometimes, one size does NOT fit all. So whether you are a first-time swimmer, or looking to improve technique or endurance, we CAN customize “your lessons, your way!” Inquire about private swim lessons at the front desk. One of our expert swim instructors will respond within 2 business days and work with you to schedule your lessons at a day and time that is convenient for you. 9 PRESCHOOL CHILD CARE YMCA TODDLER PROGRAM (AGES 1 TO 3) YMCA MINI MAPLES PRESCHOOL (AGE 3-5) Located at the YMCA in Adrian Offered in partnership with Adrian College & Adrian Public Schools Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-6:00pm Locations: Lincoln & Alexander Elementary At the YMCA, your child will be safe, nurtured and loved. We provide a flexible schedule that helps children develop a sense of trust and allows them to explore independently at their own pace. As they try new things under the watchful eye of our trained teachers, your child will be provided with plenty of warm praise and encouragement. The YMCA Mini-Maples Preschool at Lincoln Elementary and Alexander Elementary is a laboratory classroom for the Education students at Adrian College. These students engage in activities with the children under the supervision of highlyqualified education professors. 4-year old preschool classroom Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-4:00pm with wrap around child care available 3-year old preschool classroom Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm with wrap around child care available By choosing the Mini-Maples Preschool, your child will benefit from an innovative curriculum design, a low student-to-teacher ratio and ongoing research of children’s learning and development. The YMCA preschool holistically fosters childhood development and learning by providing a safe and healthy environment to learn foundational skills, develop healthy and trusting relationships, and build self-reliance through the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our program is licensed through the State of Michigan and follows the Creative Curriculum designed to enhance student learning. Our preschool teachers hold degrees in education and continue to develop as professionals through workshops, conferences, and continuing education throughout the year. Funding for our 3-year old Preschool is made available thanks to Lenawee United Way. Funding for our 4-year old Preschool is available through the State of Michigan’s Great Start Readiness Program. Our Preschools operate year-round and are only closed on major holidays. SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE For young fives through sixth grade Working in partnership with area elementary schools, the YMCA is able to provide a safe place for kids to learn skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships and build self-reliance through Y values during the before and after school hours. Care is also available on half school days, no-school days and during any weather cancellations. LOCATIONS: YMCA of Lenawee County: Children from Michener, and Alexander are transported by APS buses to the YMCA. Child care is provided at the Y on no-school days, cancellations, delays and half-days. Lincoln Elementary School: The School Age program is held on-site at Lincoln Elementary. Children will be at Lincoln on no-school days, cancellations, delays and half-days. Prairie Elementary School: The School Age program is held on-site at Prairie Elementary. Children will be at Prairie on no-school days, cancellations, delays and half-days. Madison Public Schools: The School Age program is held at the YMCA for Madison Public School children. MPS busses transports before and after school. Children will be at the Y on no-school days, cancellations, delays and half-days. Sand Creek Community Schools: Currently, the School Age program is only available after school, children from Sand Creek Elementary School are bussed to the YMCA on our mini-buses. Child care is provided at the Y on no-school days, cancellations, delays and half-days. Morenci Public Schools: The School Age program is held on-site at Morenci Elementary for Children ages four through twelve.
