Issue 36 19/11/2015 Hello It’s wonderful to be back at Alberton Primary and to receive such a warm welcome from everyone, particularly the students. Thank you to Mrs Ireland who was Acting Principal during the time I was on leave. She did a wonderful job. I would also like to thank the staff for their support during this time. When I was out and about in our community during the last 6 weeks, I would meet people here and there who knew of our school and had only fabulous comments to share about our students. I loved it and was so proud of them and the way they presented themselves. It’s also wonderful to be able to share these comments with people in our own school community. Generous Donation: I have the privilege of letting you know about a significant and very generous donation made to our school by the Robertson’s Beach Progress Association this week. The retiring members were at school for the presentation on Wednesday. There is a long list of assets as well as the sum of $5000 which will be invested to generate income for an annual scholarship with a community involvement focus. President Graeme Carrison and members Robby Rowell, Graeme and Janet Atkins and Kevin Paxton met with me to work out the details of the donation. We are thrilled about this and look forward to the support it will offer the children at Alberton Primary School. School Visit: We had a very successful day on Tuesday when we were joined by Woodside Primary to attend a police visit and see the Scientwists presentation. The police woman, Senior Constable Sarah Reggardo, from Sale addressed Cyber and Personal Safety as well as issues like bullying, theft and assault. From time to time these things all happen at school and our young students have to be educated in appropriate ways to deal with these situations. There was a lot to cover in just 45 minutes and the messages she was sharing were the exact same ones families teach their children every day. After this the children went on to enjoy the Scientwists presentation before having a sausage sizzle provided by our wonderful PFA. Thank you to Mrs Ireland for organizing this program and also to Woodside Primary for visiting our school. I believe we are reciprocating with the Rock Band visiting Woodside for a combined music day and concert next Thursday. Please check the newsletter for more details about this event. Bitter Sweet News: Congratulations to Vanessa Banik, our Business Manager, who has recently been appointed to Yarram Secondary College in the same role. This is a new challenge for her with more students and different age groups, but it is one I am sure she will take on with enthusiasm. Vanessa has been at our school for nine years. She has worked very closely with me during my time here and she supports the staff, students and parents in many ways. Her unfailing loyalty to the school and her ownership of the Alberton Primary School badge are two of the things that we all recognise about her and although she is not going far, she will missed greatly at our school. I want to mention so many other things but I think I will save them for later. I hope you have a wonderful week and that I see you around the school. Regards Malissa Nicol - Principal Alberton PS Number 1 News Page 2 Prep/One/Two Adventures Miss Hurrell What a busy week it has been! We have had plenty of activities this week. Our cultural performance on Monday was all about juggling and that it is okay to get things wrong as long as you try. Miss H even got up to have a go at juggling! On Tuesday we had Woodside Primary School visit us. They joined in on a police visit and a awesome science show. It was filled with spectacular questions and laughter. The children all behaved beautifully and really enjoyed having special visitors. We are looking forward to getting back to a normal week next week! Two/Three/Four Happenings Mrs Thomas Week 7 has been a very busy week so far, with several extracurricular activities that the children have thoroughly enjoyed. It was particularly lovely to see the Woodside PS and Alberton students playing together in our school grounds on Tuesday at recess and lunchtime. Our students proudly showed the Woodsiders around our beautiful school and introduced them to our guinea pigs and chooks. This week in English we are working on double-entry journals for comprehension and in Maths we are calculating change, worded money problems and practicing our addition and multiplication skills. We have lots of Super Spellers this week! Great work Gr 2/3/4s! 100% Bri, Charlie, Francis, Sen, Katelyn, Hector, Ruby. 80%+ LuLu, Mick, Jack, Jaidyn, Josh, and Will. Five/Six Gossip Mrs Ireland Wow! I am so happy to be in with my beautiful grade again. It’s amazing to realise how much I missed teaching them and how much they have grown in such a short time. This week we have had our heads down and our tails up getting our work completed and polished. Our work on money is continuing and I am confident that the children could now do my shopping for me and get me the correct change too. Our combined day with Woodside was a huge success and the children were fabulously behaved and I have heard lots of positives from Woodside about our children as well. Our Big Write prompt this week generated lots of discussion about possible writing ideas and I am very excited to see what our minions get up to. Just a quick reminder that homework is due on Wednesdays and gets handed out on Thursdays. Keep reading and remember it’s not ok to be away!
