Dear Lily Enthusiasts and Gardening Friends:
Welcome to our 2016 lily bulb catalogue. A special thank you to our
many loyal customers who have supported us the last year. We hope you
will enjoy the beauty of the lilies you now have growing in your gardens.
This year we have listed 29 NEW cultivars to add to your gardens.
An exciting new addition featured on our front cover, a unique cross
in which L. longiflorum from the East meet L. pardalinum from the West,
so aptly named 'Fusion'.
In perusing our Asiatic listing you will find many new additions
including new Tango hybrids, 'Milan Heart' and 'Paris Heart' as well as
new double lilies, 'Spargo' and 'Sundew'. For those who like the novelty
lilies, 'Must See' is a must have, it changes color!
In Division VIII, we bring you many new hybrids which include
two new spectacular double LA hybrids, 'Bentley' and 'Yellow Bellies'.
A few extraordinary orienpets we would like to draw your attention to are
'African Lady' (a second generation L. nepalense interdivisional hybrid),
'Passion Moon', 'Zelmira' and finally a new double orienpet named 'Exotic
Sun'.
We invite you to visit us at the Lily Nook to stroll though our show
gardens from July 1st to July 31st to view over 1500 named varieties in
various stages of bloom. Over 150 varieties of potted lilies are available for
sale at our Lily Gift Shop. We also are continuing on with our Lily
Festival located here at The Lily Nook for the full week of July 18 - 24th
during peak blooming time.

DIVISION VI Trumpets and Aurelians. These can be grown successfully
on the prairies, usually needing added protection. NOTE: We find that
spring planting of this division allows them to settle in and they are more
apt to winter through in colder climate zones. Fall mulching is highly
recommended. These fragrant beauties are well worth the extra care.

DIVISION VII Orientals can be grown on the prairies but take a little more
effort of amending the soil and heavier winter protection. NOTE: In Zones 3-4
orientals should be planted in the spring and covered during early fall frosts to
extend bulb maturity. Soil for orientals should have a ph level of 6 to 7.

Planting Lilies
Lily bulbs are never completely dormant so they must be planted as soon as
possible. If for some reason you are unable to plant your bulbs immediately,
keep them refrigerated until you can plant them.
Location: It is important to choose the right location. Lilies require direct sunlight for part to all of the day. They also require “Well Drained Soil”. A medium sandy loam soil with a reasonable amount of humus is ideal. Peat moss can
also be added. Heavy soils can be lightened with coarse sand and peat moss. If
using manure, make sure it is well rotted and use as top dress only; otherwise
it can cause damage to the bulbs by lowering their disease resistance.
Planting: Most lilies should be planted to a depth of 6” and 12-16” apart.
Trumpets and orientals should be planted to a depth of 8” for extra winter
protection. Place your lily bulb with its roots down and scale points up. A little
bone meal may be added at this time. Cover with your soil mixture. Pack the
soil in well around your bulb. It is important to thoroughly water your bulbs
in after planting so the soil settles around the bulb to prevent any air pockets.
Lilies make a nice show if they are planted in triangular groups of 3 per variety.
The Lily Nook Guarantee
We guarantee our bulbs to be true to name and healthy upon arrival. We
cannot, however, be reasonably held responsible for any bulb loss due to
circumstances beyond our control such as unusual weather conditions,
i.e. sudden deep freezes without snow cover, or prolonged rainfall, soil
conditions, cultivation or lack of care. Guarantee is for garden planted
bulbs, not container planting, or any other types of winter storage over
which we have no control. Spring planted bulbs that fail to grow must be
reported by July 1st the same season.
