Time flies when you are having fun! I can’t believe another month
has passed. Both the Tent Sale and Anniversary Party/Open House were a
great success! I would like to thank the H.O.G. Chapters for helping out
with the events; your help contributed to a smooth and fun event!
For the May event calendar we have some really cool stuff happening.
We will be hosting our Temptation Tuesdays as usual, which means you will
be able to satiate your sweet tooth and take advantage of some great
items on sale. This month we are going to be featuring Scottcreations
Sweet Treats, prepare to be impressed! May 5th we are going to have tacos and some specials on Cinco de Mayo, so stop by for lunch! We are continuing to hold our Bike Nights at Bob’s Big Boy Broiler in Downey on the
second Thursday of each month, so stop by on Thursday the 10th from 69! We are still scouting locations for our Bike Night in the OC and should
have a venue picked out soon! Don’t forget about Mothers Day on May
13th, we are going to be having some great specials for Moms. On May
20th we are one of two starting points for Whistler’s Bikers Against Cancer
(BAC) Ride. We will have coffee and donuts to start the ride. Sign-up
starts at 9:30am, kickstands up at 11!
I am sure you have noticed that we are settling in nicely, but we still
have a LOT of work to do! Please be patient with us, as it is going to take
time for every thing to get finalized. Make sure you jump on our website
at www.LosAngelesHarleyDavidsonofAnaheim.com and sign up for our
eblast so that you can be up to date on the different happenings and sales
we have planned. We send one a week. Check out our Facebook page to
see what is happening on a daily basis and to look for new photos.

From Behind The Desk– Words
From Our Director
Frank Storms
Director
Greetings Fullhogsters,
I will keep it short this month; everything is progressing nicely with our
chapter and the folks at Mid Cities. We have an outline somewhat formatted so that we can get both boards together and iron things out for next
year. Stay tuned for further information.
What I would like everyone to do, is to submit to me your suggestion for a
new name for the chapter for the 2013 campaign and on into the future. If
you think you have a good one, get it to me via email so that I can track
who submitted what, as there may be a nice prize if yours is chosen to be
on the top rocker next year. Greg Jones (Director) at Mid Cities is doing the
same thing with his chapter.
I was going to mention how beneficial it was for me and several others on
our board to have attended H.O.T. (HOG Officer Training) in San Diego the
beginning of the month. You will see Wynn has that base covered. Thank
you to those of you taking the time to partake in the learning experience,
Wynn Hornburg, Cheryl Sincock, Frank Saldana, John Woodward, Lyle
Wong, Denice Storms, Marilyn Seaman, and Eva Raleigh.
So get out there and ride your Harley and hey, let’s have “Fun” doing it.
Don’t forget, here at So Cal Fullerton HOG, “We don’t meet the competition, we create it”.

Notes From the Assistant Director
Wynn Hornburg
Assistant Director
Greetings to All,
Just a short note this month to pay homage to our parent organization, “Harley Owners Group,
USA”. Every year our national organization, H.O.G. USA, provides “Officer Training” for
every Chapter through-out the USA. This training is nicknamed “HOT”, Harley Officer
Training. I must say this was one of the most rewarding weekends I have spent in a very long
time. It was two full days packed with valuable information to help us promote the riding experience we all enjoy! Every class radiated the passion we have for “Harley Davidson” and
the sport of riding.
During the opening session we were introduced to the most important members of H.O.G.
family, the participating “Chapter Officers”, numbering over (900) nine hundred strong. These
individuals came from distant locations, riding all the way from Florida and the most northern
State of Alaska. They road their bikes this distance to renew their understanding of the goals
set out by National H.O.G. We were also introduced to a passionate “key staff”. These were
going to be our instructors who would be helping us build our knowledge during the next two
days. Every seminar provided time to network with other Chapter Officers across the Country.
This networking time was designated as 50% of the training, sharing leadership resolutions to
many common management difficulties! All this training was focused on keeping our Chapters focused on the key objectives, “Riding and having Fun”, the hallmark of National
Harley Owners Group and every local Chapter.
4
The seminars included the following topics:t






Ask a H.O.G. Manager
Connect Through Social
Media
Craft Media for Print & Media
Create Compelling Messages
Find & Retain Volunteers
Handle Conflict








Lead and Delegate
Make a Dealer Alliance
Make Membership Stick
Manage Finance Essentials
Manage Risk Essentials
Master Advanced Finance
Master Advanced Risk
Pass the Torch




Produce Remarkable
Events
Rev Up New Riders
Secrets of Successful Officers
Work with Powerful Personalities
The above training was totally on track with our Chapters daily operations,
helping us provide the best experience to each and every “Chapter Member” and maintaining a strong working relationship with our Dealerships.
This is an excellent time to recognize our affiliation, not only the Harley
Davidson Product, but the very integrity of the Parent Company and their
commitment to continue their support of the network of Chapters. Please
know I am proud to be a part of this organization and will continue to “live
to ride” with you in the best dam Chapter around!
Thanks for your time,
Wynn Hornburg
Assistant Director, Fullerton HOG

THE SAFETY ZONE
Frank Saldana
Safety Officer
Hello all you HOGs! I would like to talk about the subject SEE
– Scan, Evaluate , Execute.
Scanning is looking down the road for potential problems - like cars in the intersection
or the car next to you - is that driver paying attention? Most likely not. To use short
examples: road hazards, ladders, tire caps (known as alligators), people, from cars on
the side of the road to animals, they are all potential hazards.
Evaluate each situation and think, “what position of the lane should I move to?”; “Is
that car getting ready to move in my lane?”, or “is that stray dog ready to cross in my
path?” To evaluate is spotting an object on the road and identifying the hazard .
Execute. “What's my out? How am I going to go around this safely and easily?” Each
situation is different.
I was talking to a retired State Trooper motorcycle cop - he claims that 95 percent of
motorcycle accidents could have been prevented if they would have only been scanning
the road. I was amazed with that statistic. Did you know it takes 30 days of consistently doing something before it becomes a habit? How about scanning the road consistently - that's a habit I can deal with. Remember, we ride staggered formation; use
your hand signals and make sure your motorcycle maintenance is up to date.
By the way, I want to share with you some pictures of my friend’s father. After World
War II, this old timer was a motorcycle daredevil and race rider. Check out their activities - deer hunting on the backs of their motorcycles, somewhere in the middle of
Grand Junction, Colorado. WOW!
Take care and I’ll see you all on the road.
