If that requirement is not fulfilled three days prior to the start of that program, the activity will be cancelled.
Registration is on a first come, first serve basis and class sizes are limited. It is important you sign up
early for programs to make sure you get a spot in the activity and to ensure the activity is not cancelled.

be notified. If you register in person,
you will receive a receipt of your
transaction. If you register online or
by mail you will be emailed a receipt
for the activities you registered for. If
your program is cancelled for any
reason, you will receive a phone call

As part of our fundraising efforts for the reconstruction and maintenance of Filley Pond, we are
offering Bloomfield residents, family and friends the opportunity to purchase personalized pavers.
These will be installed on the walkway of the two bridges at the entrance to the wooded section of the

Youth Center
Located at the Alvin & Beatrice Wood Human Services Center, the Youth Center is a facility strictly for
youth in grades 5-12 featuring a gymnasium, stereo system, 2 pool tables, an air hockey table, foosball
table, and ping pong tables. The lounge area is a place for friends to hang out. If the mood strikes,
participants may watch TV or videos or play one of the many board games available. The Youth Center
is the home for the After school drop-in program. At night, the center becomes a drop-in facility.
Membership is required to participate in the Youth Center at a rate of $10 for the season! The schedule
of hours for the Youth Center are listed below.

After school athe the Rec is a program for youth in grades 5-8 operating Monday - Friday from 3-6 pm
at the Community Center. Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from the program. Many
recreational activities will be available for the children including sports, arts & crafts and video games.
Children will also have access to a dedicated homework room with limited homework assistance
provided by staff. There is no program during school holidays or vacations. The drop in program will
have a membership fee and parents will need to fill out a Pick up informational sheet for their children.
Children will sign into the program and will be supervised by Leisure Service’s Staff.

The Instructors will run the children through series of drills, where the instructors will feed tennis balls
and instruct the kids as they move through the drills. The drills will incorporate forehands, backhands,
and volleys. Serves will also be worked on. The class will conclude with some fun games like king of the
court. We have a professional Tennis instructor from the Bloomfield Tennis Club that will be conducting
the lessons for us.

Central Connecticut Jaguars Youth Cross Country Meet

The Central Connecticut Jaguars will be hosting a youth Cross Country meet on Saturday, September
24th at Bloomfield High School. The races are set up as 2K races for children 8 and under, 3K for 912, and 4K for 13-14 year olds. Awards will be presented to the top 10 individuals and for the top 2
teams. The meet will feature eight races for boys and girls, race ages use the USATF rules is age on
December 31, 2016. The schedule for the day is as follows:

This unique program is an introduction to sports in a fun non-competitive environment. The concepts
taught are basic and time spent on each activity is limited in order to maintain the attention of the

directions. This is a parent and child program where parent
participation is required.

engage in a 6-week course where each individual is encouraged to participate and develop skills
such as eye contact, projection, diction, character development and more. The final course for each
session, will be in the form of a showcase for parents, family and friends to witness what was learned
throughout the six weeks.

fitness in an 8-week Chicago Style Steppin' class. Get a good, low impact,

dance. No partners are necessary. Equipment required: comfortable
shoes, preferably with leather soles. (Women can bring flats or low heels;

Therapeutic Yoga Classes
What Is Therapeutic Yoga? Therapeutic yoga is a system of self-care that focuses on easy to learn
exercises that can be done anywhere and anytime to promote: 1) Health and balance in the physical
body, 2) Efficiency in breathing and energy levels, 3) Relaxation, calm and ease in the mind.
Classes are easy to moderate and suitable for beginners. Please wear loose comfortable

Quilters - SAMPLERS and More, Part 2
In this 8-week session, we will continue working on the SAMPLERS from the previous class; start
new ones OR work with a beginner’s pattern that really showcases the fabric. If you plan to work
on a SAMPLER, bring a copy of the Leisure Arts publication: Learning To Quilt, A Beginner’s Guide by
Lori Yetmar-Smith. The leaflet includes instructions and fabric requirements for twenty (20) different
blocks. You can make all (20) blocks or choose to use one (1) or any number/combination of blocks
in your design. Order a copy on-line or through a local Barnes and Noble store.
For true beginners, we will have an easy 66”x58” Brick Design Quilt that can be used on a bed, as a
throw or for outings in the park or at the beach. A list of fabric requirements and supplies will be
provided at registration.

Pickleball Anyone?
Pickleball is an increasingly popular sport which is much like playing Ping-Pong on a badminton
court. It also has an interesting story of how it came into existence. The history of Pickleball dates
back to 1965 in Bainbridge Island, just a short ferry ride from Seattle, Washington. Joel Pritchard,
William Bell, and Barney McCallum came home from a game of golf one day to find their kids sitting
at home, bored. So, the three men decided to come up with a family game to keep the kids
entertained during the lazy days of summer. They wanted the game to be challenging, yet
manageable. They lowered the net on their badminton court and gave the bored kids ping-pong
paddles and a whiffle-ball. The Town of Bloomfield is proud to offer a drop in Pickleball program at the
Alvin & Beatirce Human Servfices Center. We have two courts set-up for plahyers to use.

in Leisure Services programs should carry their own personal health insurance. The Town of Bloomfield is not responsible for personal injuries. Participants in all department sponsored programs do
so at their own risk. Only those enrolled in the program may attend. Photo Policy: By registering for a program, you give the Bloomfield Leisure Services Department permission to take and use photos
of you/your child participating in the program for the department's promotional purposes. If you don't want to have you/your child's photo used in promotions, you must include this request in writing

When to Register
Bloomfield residents may register for programs. It
is recommended that individuals register as soon
as possible as space is limited. Non-resident adults
may register for instructional classes for an
additional fee. Nonresidents may register for
programs where noted. All other programs are for
the exclusive enjoyment of Bloomfield
residents.

registration must be received by the Leisure
Services Office one week prior to the first class of
the program you want to attend, unless otherwise
noted. Registrations may be made mailed in to the

Payment
Check or money order. No cash should be sent
through the mail. Cash and credit cards including

Residency
All Youth Programs are for residents and nonresidents. Non-residents may attend classes as
indicated at an additional fee. Proof of residency

Enrollment in Bloomfield Public School or eligibility
to attend a Bloomfield Public School.
Refund Policy
Refunds for programs will be given only if a
recreational activity is cancelled due to lack of
registration or a department activity schedule
change is made. Refunds for recreational activities
will be given for proven medical reasons. However,
refunds must be requested before the first activity
period and must be put in writing. Once an activity
begins, no refunds will be given. Checks returned
for insufficient funds will be charged an additional
$25.
