Beholding Sri Rama, standing absorbed in thought on the battle-field, exhausted by the fight, and
Ravana facing him, duly prepared for an encounter, and approaching Sri Rama, the glorious sage
Agastya, who had come in the company of gods to witness the encounter now spoke as follows:
Rama, O mighty-armed Sri Rama, hearken to the following eternal secret, in the form of a holy,
eternal, immortal and supremely blessed and excellent encomium, entitled the Aditya Hridaya, the
blessing of all blessings, by means of which, my child, you will conquer once for all your adversaries
on the battle-field, and which is calculated to bring victory, root out all sins, allay all anxiety and grief
once for all and prolong life.
Worship the sun-god, the ruler of the worlds, who is crowned with rays, who appears at the horizon,
who is greeted by gods and demons, and brings light.
Indeed he is the embodiment of all gods and full of glory and creates and sustains the gods and the
demons as well as their worlds by his rays.
Indeed he is the same as Brahma as well as Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Skanda, Prajapati, the mighty Indra,
Kubera, Kala, Yama, Soma, Varuna, the Pitris, the Vasus, the Sadyhas, the Ashwins, the Maruts, Manu,
Vayu, and the god of Fire. He constitutes created beings, he is the life-breath, the source of the
seasons, the store-house of light, an offspring of Aditi, the progenitor, the sun-god, the courser in the
heavens, the nourisher, the possessor of rays, the golden, the brilliant, the one whose energy
constitutes the seed of the universe and the maker of day.
He has seven green horses, is myriad-rayed, full of rays, the destroyer of darkness, the source of
happiness, the mitigator of suffering of his devotees, the infuser of life in the lifeless cosmic egg, all
pervading and the cause of the creation, preservation and destruction of the universe. He is blissful
by nature,
the ruler of all, the bringer of day and the Teacher. A son of Aditi, he bears the fire of dissolution in his
womb, is bliss personified and all-enveloping, the destroyer of cold, the lord of the heavens, the
disperser of darkness, a master of the three Vedas, the sender of thick showers and the friend of
water. He courses swiftly along his own orbit, carries in him the resolve to evolve the universe and is
adorned with a circle of rays. He is death, tawny and the destroyer of all. His is omniscient, all-formed,
endowed with extraordinary brilliance, coppery, the source of all evolutes, the controller of lunar
mansions, planets and stars, the creator of all, the resplendent among the splendid. O god appearing
in twelve forms, hail to you!
Hail to the eastern mountain and hail to the western mountain. Hail to the lord of hosts of luminaries,
the lord of the day.
Hail to the giver of victory, hail to the joy born of victory! Hail to the god having green horses. Hail, hail
to you with thousands of rays! Hail hail to you, son of Aditi!
Hail to the subduer of the senses, the valiant one! Hail to you as denoted by the mystic syllable OM!
Hail to the awakener of the lotus! Hail to you, the fierce one!
Hail to the ruler of Brahma, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu! Hail to the sun-god, the light indwelling the
solar orb, the resplendent one, the devourer of all, appearing in the form of Rudra.
Hail to the dispeller of darkness, the destroyer of cold, the exterminator of foes, the one whose
extent is immeasurable, the destroyer of the ungrateful, the god who is the ruler of lights!
Hail to you, possessing the luster of refined gold, the dispeller of ignorance, the architect of the
universe, the uprooter of darkness, splendor incarnate, the onlooker of the world!
The aforesaid Lord alone actually destroys, brings into existence and sustains all that has come into
being. He radiates heat by his rays and sends showers.
Planted in created beings, he remains awake when they have fallen asleep. Nay, he himself is the act
of pouring oblations into the sacred fire as well as the fruit attained by those who pour such
oblations.
Nay, he comprises the gods as well as the sacrifices as also the fruit of sacrifices. Again, he is the
Supreme Controller of activities which are found in all living beings.
No individual celebrating the aforesaid Lord in strait, in difficulties, in the woods as well as in times of
peril comes to grief, O scion of Raghu!
Worship the aforesaid Lord of the universe, the adored of gods, with a concentrated mind. Muttering
this praise three times, one will come out victorious in combats. You will make short work of Ravana
this moment, O mighty-armed one! Saying so, the celebrated Sage Agastya thereupon left in the
same way as he had come.
Hearing this advice, Sri Rama, who was endowed with extraordinary energy and had a subdued mind,
found his grief immediately dissipated. Nay, feeling greatly delighted, he retained the alleluia in his
memory.
Sipping water thrice and getting purified, looking intently on the sun and repeating this prayer, the
valiant one experienced supreme felicity. Seizing hold of his bow and fixing his eyes on Ravana, the
hero advanced with a view to attaining victory. He stood vowed to kill Ravana with an intense and all
sided effort.
Delighted in mind to gaze on Sri Rama feeling supremely exhilarated on perceiving the destruction of
Ravana at hand, the sun-god, standing in the midst of a host of gods, exclaimed: "Make haste!"
RahuKalam, Varjyam and Durmuhurtham are not good timings for beginning any auspicious work.

Panchânga (Almanac) Calendar - 2012

Panchangam: Panchangam provides five basic elements of astrology, Tithi (lunar day or time taken by moon to move 12 degrees), vaara (a day from sunrise to sunrise), Nakshtra
(the Zodiac constellation in which the moon is found on particular day), yoga (half-day) and karana (angle between sun & moon). These are the main aspects calculated according
to the Solar, Lunar and the Earth positions. These five elements play an important role in calculating the muhurthas (auspicious days) for any Hindu rituals. There are three
prevalent methods of calculation for Panchangam used in different parts of India. Souramanam (Solar calendar - prevalent in Kerala and Tamilnadu), Chandramanam (lunar
Calendar - prevalent in Andhra, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and other states of North India), Baarhaspatyamaana (Jupiterian calendar -which is said to be prevalent in North India).
Panchangam in India and US: The lunar movements calculate Tithi and Nakshtra, the main limbs of Panchangam. When one Tithi or Nakshatram begins and ends, it happens at
the same instance all over the world, which is called the Universal time. Based on the time zones, the Tithi and Nakshatram will begin/end at different local timings in different
parts of the world. Since India has a little variation in terms of sunrise/sunset, Panchangam computed for one area of the country is generally applicable to the other parts of the
country as well. But when it comes to other parts of the world, same universal time should be translated into the corresponding local time in terms of the longitude and latitude. As
North America’s PST is 13 ½ hours past Indian Standard Time, it is not appropriate to use the calendar, prepared for Indian local time. Keeping these aspects in mind, our
astrologers and scholars prepared Panchangam calculated for our local time, i.e. PST & PDT. The calendar brought to you by with all accurate calculations and times of all
festivals, Eclipse and auspicious times is to be used in PST. In the current Calendar we have put all efforts to provide as many details as possible. For further details like Muhurthas,
please consult our scholars, personally or through email. Daily use of this calendar helps everyone to understand and monitor the prevailing planetary forces of the day.
Accuracy of the above mentioned Panchangam attributes depending upon Moon's motion are more crucial for the reliability of Panchângam. Because Moon is the fastest among
all the heavenly entities shown in traditional Panchângas, Tithi, Nakshatra, Râúi, Yoga, and Karana depend on Moon's motion. There are three popular meanings of the term
Panchângam. Vedic astrology meaning "five attributes" of the day. These are:
Tithi:
Nakshatra:
Yoga:
Karana:
Rasi:
Ending Moment (EM) of elongation of the Moon, the lunar day, the angular relationship between Sun and Moon (True Moon minus True Sun). One
Tithi equals 12 degree difference between Moon and Sun.
EM of asterism of the day, that is, the stellar mansion in which Moon is located for an observer on Earth. One Nakshatra equals 13 degrees:20 minutes.
There are 27 Nakshatra in 360 degrees.
EM of the angular relationship between Sun and Moon (True Moon plus True Sun). One Yoga equals 13 degrees:20 minutes. There are 27 Yogas in 360
degrees.
EM of half of a Tithi. One Karana equals 6 degree difference between Moon and Sun.
The zodiac signs or Râúi - EM of the sidereal sign of the zodiac for the Moon.
Tithi: The tithi is the longitude of the Moon minus that of the Sun. First tithi (Prathama) begins when tithi is 0° and ends when it is 12°; 12° to 24° is dvitiya, 24° to 36° is Tritiya
etc. 168° to 180° is Poornima, 180° to 192° is Dark fortnight Prathama 192° to 204° is Dvitiya.etc. 348° to 360° is Amãvãsya. So, there are 30 tithis -15 are called Suddha (Shukla)
Paksha (Bright fortnight or waxing phase) the other 15 Bahula(Krishna) Paksha (Dark fortnight or waning phase).
The tithi of a day is usually taken to be the tithi current at sunrise on that day. Since the moment of the sunrise is not the same at all places it is to be noted that occasionally a tithi
current at sunrise at one place may not be current at sunrise at another place. It is also possible for a particular tithi to be current at sunrise on two successive days. So when two
successive days have the same tithi associated with them, the 1st day is called Tridina. It is also likely that a tithi may begin after sunrise and end before the next sunrise. In such a
case a tithi is skipped over and that day is called AVAMA.
The concept of good timing is provided by this calendar and one can take advantage of auspicious moments by avoiding when the creative forces of this planetary system are on the
wane.

On behalf of Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple Executive Committee, I wish and pray god to shower his gracious blessings to you
and your families.
“A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2012”
By the grace of god, we are making wonderful progress and we have successfully completed yet another year at this new temple location.We had
many great events in religious, cultural and spiritual domains that were unique to whole Bay Area. Most notable events such as Sri Rama
Navami, Maha Sivarathri, Krishna Astami, Vinayaka Chavithi, Dasara Navarathri and a month long Karthika Masa Deeksha Abhishekam
were celebrated in this auspicious temple with a great spiritual and religious enthusiasm . Apart from that, many notable eminent religious
heads and spiritual personalities from India have visited to deliver wonderful discourses. In addition, the temple also provided a beautiful
platform to many organizations to promote cultural and social events. Added to that, temple (under the name of VEDA) is providing Vedic
teachings and other spiritual activities to elders and the children in the temple premises to protect our culture and pass on to our future
generations. Temple is also providing support health conscious specific activities such as Yoga and health camps. Part of community services,
temple is encouraging many domain specialist such as immigration attorneys to provide free advice services for the community benefit.
We had a very good progress on construction activities; Many devotees are expressed their wish to build a “GARBHA GUDI” for all deities and
we have initiated the process to build the same. With all your support and god's grace, the goal is to finish in the year 2012. We are in the process
of fund raising for the temple construction and so far there is a tremendous response. We sincerely request all the devotees to come forward and
help the temple for constructing the “GARDBHA GUDI” for all the deities and make this Devine place as a “PUNYA KHSETRAM”.
We had a great operations expansion side; we have formed a dedicated working committee to serve the temple in various aspects such as food
and operations etc. In addition, we are also working to bring up the temple web site to show more current event information to the devotees.
We thank you all for extending your valuable suggestions and generous donations to build our pious temple for generations to come to show
our values, culture and a spiritual path.

A humble note from a VEDA devotee

One of the strongest pillars of 'Sanatana Dharma' the practice of the so called Hinduism is 'the Parampara', which means un-interrupted series i.e. passing
from one to another.
Whether it is about knowledge or an experience or a celebration, 'Sanatana Dharma' preaches us to share them with others. This forms the basis and a strong
foundation for a healthy and a happy society. I strongly believe that our 'Vedic Education and Devotional Academy' is setting an example in following such practices
through their various activities. The Calendar published by VEDA every year is one such example. BrahmaSri Marepalli Naga Venkata Sastry is delighted to put
immense efforts and extreme care in bringing out this Calendar cum Almanac, specifically prepared for Pacific timezone.
This Calendar provides information from details for 'Nitya Sankalpam' to festivals, auspicious times, eclipse details, sacred observances, lagnas, taara
balachakram etc, which might not be found in other calendars. It also has some great slokas.Even with so many details; it has been beautifully designed and vividly
presented.
I feel that we are blessed to have such a sacred place that promotes our culture and tradition and make us feel back home. This sacred service is invaluable and
beyond expression and all I can think of is to encourage, appreciate and participate.

My association with the temple goes back to the preplanning days when myself and a few others were learning the Veda Mantras from Sri Venkata Sastrigaru.
It was a time when we had to travel a couple of hours to Livermore and offer our prayers, have Archana/Abhishekam performed for lack of temples in the South Bay.
Shastrigaru was very kind to accommodate our group of Veda students and devote a part of his residence for Veda teaching. We students very much wished that
there would be a temple in the South Bay which would be an ideal place for our classes. I remember well those days when Sastrigaru was talking about his plans to
found a temple and the Idols he would install and his untiring search to locate a place - may it be a rental place , may it be a piece of purchased land -- with different
kinds of obstacles blocking the progress. Finally, with the grace of God, his dreams came true and a temple was started in a rental property on the 10th street. I
vividly remember the elaborate inauguration ceremonies performed as per the Agama Sastras by priests local and from other end of the US and the huge gathering of
devotees lasting several days. From then onwards the temple has been growing steadily with the devotion, commitment and untiring efforts of the Temple
Committee, the support of devotees and above all the Grace of God.
Today we are fortunate that OUR temple has grown with its own purchased property blessed to be the abode of Satyanarayana Swami, Rama Devi, Shiva
Lingam, Panchamuka Anjaneya, the Navagraha Devatas to mention a few. The temple is unique in several ways where rare - by today's standards - events are
performed like the daily Kartika Masa Shiva Abhishekam and the yearly Yajur Veda Parayanam in addition to other events like SathyaNarayana Vratham on every
Purnima day. In fact the temple has become an alternate place to Annavaram AP where the idols from Annavaram AP are brought over to facilitate devotees to
worship Satyanarayana Swami in the same form as in Annavaram AP. The temple has become a great learning center for several disciplines like Vedic learning,
Slokha learning, Music, Dance, Sanskrit, Katha Kalakshepam, religious discourses etc in addition to serving its main purpose of being a place of worship. We have
eminent priests and artists whom Sastrigaru has been identifying and bringing over from India to make all these possible. The temple has great plans for the future
arising out of the immense enthusiasm and inspiration of each and every member of the temple committee. You see these plans in action as you enter the temple You see every mile stone being achieved as days go by.
I feel myself blessed by the Lord that I have been associated with the temple right from its formative stages and I pray to God that I will have this fortune for all
