I would like to thank the Westbrook Village residents who are seriously making the effort to keep their garage doors closed. Remember, it is not just the goods stored in the garage that is at risk. It is the people who live in the house. Thank you all for your help & please keep up the good work. If you are not in the garage keep the door closed, especially in the dark hours. This is a reminder that you are all invited to the Open House put on by the Sheriff’s Posse of Westbrook Village on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Vistas Rec Center & Parking Lot. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Peoria Police Dept. personnel & The Sheriff’s Posse of Westbrook Village personnel will be on hand to visit with all residents with a myriad of exhibits & demonstrations from the participating agencies. Children of all ages will enjoy visiting with Officer McGruff and 4-Paws which contains some very talented dogs as there is also in the K-9 Unit. You can see an SRT Swat Unit in action as well as a Swat Unit from Peoria Police Department. These people are the ones you really don’t want to get on the wrong side of. You will enjoy the Search and Rescue Unit and the fine work they do. If you have a serious medical emergency the PMT Medical Unit can be a very welcome sight indeed. You will be impressed at the sophisticated equipment we have that can be called in for an emergency in our community. You can even learn more about Project Life Saver. In an emergency, Mobile Command Posts can be brought into play to coordinate the efforts of officers on the scene. You will get a good look at some of the other equipment. Police motor units (motorcycles) are very effective at traffic enforcement & the patrol cars are a basic tool & the Peoria Fire Department has a very sophisticated arsenal of equiment of their own. Our own posse cars are very effective as well. So help yourself to a free bag of pop corn & take your time & enjoy yourself. If you would like to get some gifts MCSO’s famous Pink Underwear will be for sale as long as the merchandise lasts so it’s a good time to stock up. – IN LOVING MEMORY – The big event of the day will start at 10:00 AM when Sheriff CLARENCE THOMAS MORGAN Joe Arpaio himself will address the crowd in the recreation Clarence Thomas Morgan passed away July 30, 2012. However, they fairly represent the approximate financial condition of the Association at month end. GENERAL OPERATING FUND (Funds designated for day-to-day operations.) Cash at month end was $1,545,726. Revenue for the seven months was $1,499,142 which was $51,014 above budget. The overage was largely driven by increased fees from stronger than budgeted house sales (43,650) and increased Rec Center rental income ($12,296). Expenses were $28,102 under budget. A $35,676 overrun in water primarily due to incessant dry weather and added plantings was more than offset by favorable variances in several categories. For the seven months net surplus was $136,454 vs. a budget of $57,338. We received our 2011 audit from our CPA. The report showed our statements do fairly present in all material respects our financial position and results of operations. REPLACEMENT RESERVE FUND (Funds for major repairs/replacements/improvements) Cash and CD’s at month end was $2,940,888. Revenue for the month was $54,454 vs. a $25,604 budget primarily as a result of preservation fees from 15 more homes sales than budgeted. Expenditures were $14,470 of which $8,226 was for perimeter wall painting and repair. As has been our practice, our forecasting of cash requirements is heavily influenced by what our reserve study shows. We have received the 2012 preliminary reserve study update and the information has allowed us to be reasonably comfortable with investing $1,200,000 in CD’s with a 3 year maturity and $800,000 in CD’s with a 2 year maturity. All the players stand at the beginning of the game, and as the caller announces the numbers from balls that come out of the bingo machine - if a number on your card is called, alas, you have to sit down. The winner is the last person standing after all others have had to sit down. The game this week paid $50.00; not too bad for a can of food! The really ‘Big One’ Is Coming...
