They explore and develop. With that transformation comes a realization of their true potential. They learn to grow their own wings and fly. A Message from the Chairman of the Board & the President and Chief Executive Officer Children’s Home & Aid saves children’s lives, moves families forward, and goes where the need is greatest—providing services for 40,000 children and families each year. The significance of this statement is awe-inspiring. Our work embodies passion, commitment, and change on the part of our children, families, staff, and volunteers. Many of the 40,000 individuals we’ve helped have made remarkable transformations in their lives, while others continue to work toward their goals. When a child in distress or a family in crisis arrives at Children’s Home & Aid, there is often a sense of confusion or despair. “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls the butterfly.” This ancient wisdom captures a sense of the importance and impact of Children’s Home & Aid for children, youth, and families. The help, hope, and opportunity provided to each child brings them through a process of change that is much like the caterpillar’s journey. When the butterfly emerges, the struggle that accompanies great change gives way to the beauty of fulfillment. We are proud to share the results of our collective efforts in this annual report. You will see the many ways that your support helps to create positive change in the lives of Illinois’ most vulnerable children, youth, and families—24 hours a day, every day of the year. Children’s Home + Aid’s adoption and foster care programs bring children together with loving and caring families. Our many counseling programs bring about remarkable transformations for children, youth, and families. Parenting support programs provide young moms and dads with the skills and understanding necessary to become model parents and prevent child abuse. Child care and education programs that are conducive to learning, development, and healthy interaction ensure that our youngest children will reach their full potential. And, our very troubled children and youth receive intensive residential services provided at our Rice Child & Family Center. Children’s Home + Aid provides 70 programs across Illinois that are helping children grow, develop, transform, and fly – to a better life and a better future. Some new developments in 2005 include: The launch of our Guatemala international adoption program. Our partnership in the Strengthening Families Illinois initiative that brings together the child welfare, child abuse prevention, and early childhood fields to prevent child abuse and neglect through early care and education programs. The addition of MotherHouse crisis nursery to our Northern Region programs. The groundbreaking for the construction of the new Englewood Child & Family Center. Because of your commitment and support, positive transformations are taking place. Thank you for helping our children take flight. Their growth and success are possible through your dedication, passion, and generosity. Mr. Steven Bono Nancy B.
