THE XPOSÉ BEAUTY AWARDS You know we know our beauty here at XPOSÉ. From the most glamorous gals on the TV to the beauty editors who try all the latest and greatest launches, the judging panel of the inaugural XPOSÉ Beauty Awards is at the frontline of beauty. We’ve selected our top picks in skincare, bodycare, hair and, of course, make-up. These are the products we really use and believe in... THE JUDGING PANEL Skincare BEST CLEANSER Vichy Pureté Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel, €15 “I’m not the best when it comes to skin care. I’ve got good skin so can often be lazy when it comes to cleansing, toning and moisturising. Vichy Pureté Thermale Cleanser makes my face feel so clean that I’ve managed to stick to using it every day. That’s deserves an award in itself!” - Claudia Gocoul BEST TONER Deanna O’Connor XPOSÉ Magazine Editor Aisling Keenan XPOSÉ Magazine Beauty Editor Claudia Gocoul XPOSÉ Magazine Editorial Assistant Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner, €19.50 “Toning is back in fashion and if I had to pick one it would be the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner! Kiehl’s is such a great brand. I love how well they know their stuff in store. The staff are always on the ball and they give you lots of free samples.” - Triona McCarthy BEST SERUM Kate O’Reilly XPOSÉ Magazine Beauty Columnist and Make-up Artist Triona McCarthy XPOSÉ Magazine Beauty Columnist Karen Koster XPOSÉ Presenter Image Vitamin C Serum, €65.50 “I absolutely love the smell of this product. I know I probably shouldn’t be swung by the smell but it’s so gorgeous. Secondary to the delicious smell is the fact that it wakes me up, is easily absorbed and has a great consistency. I’ve really noticed a difference.” - Aisling O’Loughlin BEST MOISTURISER Glenda Gilson XPOSÉ Presenter 100 THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE Aisling O’Loughlin XPOSÉPresenter Lisa Cannon XPOSÉ Presenter Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturiser, €54 “This little gem may not look like much but hidden inside the no frills packaging is a hero product. The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturiser is so thick and creamy you almost want to eat it… I haven’t gotten that far yet but I do use it on my elbows and knees when they need a little extra TLC.” - Claudia Gocoul BEST EYE CREAM Shiseido Ibuki Eye Correcting Cream, €45 “My main belief about eye bags is that you don’t cover them, you treat them. And what better to treat them with than a damn good eye cream. Shiseido’s Ibuki range is perfect for people in their 20s and 30s and the eye cream is hydrating and light.” Aisling Keenan BEST NIGHT CREAM Origins Make A Difference Night, €43.50 “When it comes to night creams, I like something rich. But not something that sits on my skin and transfers to my pillow. Finding that balance is hard, but this little beauty does that for me. Super rich but it sinks right in.” Aisling Keenan BEST SPF La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Extreme Face Fluid SPF50, €15 “I wear this lightweight fluid year round. UVA rays cause ageing, and folks, if it’s daylight, they are affecting your skin, so protect it! This is water resistant and won’t block your pores. I keep some in the car for the back of my hands too to ward off age spots! ” Deanna O’Connor BEST EXFOLIATOR Skinceuticals Retexturing Activator, €72 “I’m a firm believer in avoiding grains and scrubs, and being gentle with my skin. This serum is both exfoliating and replenishing. It works by stimulating the enzymes that break up dead cells on the skin’s surface, and simultaneously delivers a moisture boost, so it’s basically a facial in a bottle.” Deanna O’Connor BEST EYE MAKE-UP REMOVER Bioderma Sensibio H20, €11.50 “I’m thrilled this cult favourite micellar water is finally available on our shores. It’s adored by make-up artists, models and those with sensitive eyes and skin, as it’s gentle, fragrance-free and doesn’t leave any residue.” - Deanna O’Connor BEST MASK GlamGlow Thirsty Mud, €54 “I’m a traditionalist when it comes to face masks, they have to be mud based and they have to dry so hard that I can’t move my face or I don’t feel like they’re working. GlamGlow ticks both boxes for me with the added bonus that my skin instantly feels tighter. What’s not to love?” - Claudia Gocoul BEST MULTITASKER Trilogy Rosehip Oil, €32.95 This is truly a hero product. Use it as a serum at night for amazingly plump skin in the morning, but also try it for scars and cellulite. - Deanna O’Connor THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE 101 BEST PRIMER Make-up From the products that can take the heat under studio lights, to the ones we know give results on a photo shoot, these are our very best in beauty... Stila One Step Correct, €31.60 “At the minute I’m getting a lot of redness on my face which I’m putting down to pregnancy hormones. Stila One Step Correct is a great product for underneath my foundation to counteract the redness and give my skin a more even tone.” Aisling O’Loughlin BEST FOUNDATION Armani Luminous Silk, €45 “I love Armani Luminous Silk because it’s got really great coverage for studio. I’ve had lots of compliments since I started using it and lots of people have said my skin looks great on screen. I can hand on heart say that my skin is not great, it’s all down to this hero product.” - Lisa Cannon BEST CONCEALER Urban Decay Naked Skin, €22 “I tend to get quite dark circles around my eyes but have always had a bit of an aversion to concealers as I’ve never found one that sits right on my skin. The Urban Decay Naked Skin has great coverage but still feels light as a feather.” - Claudia Gocoul BEST BRONZER Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow, €65 “I love that the colour doesn’t make you look too contoured. It’s a very natural shade and it’s perfect for my skin tone. I also love the highlighter which comes alongside it so I feel like I’m getting a little bonus product.” - Glenda Gilson BEST BLUSHER NARS Blush in Orgasm, €30 “NARS Orgasm is a classic peachy tone that suits lots of different skin types. I’d always have NARS products in my kit because it’s such a well-respected brand. The textures are great and the colours are always trend based without being gimmicky.” - Kate O’Reilly BEST HIGHLIGHTER BEST TINTED MOISTURISER Chanel CC Cream, €60.50 “This will have me broke, but my goodness is it worth it. A flawless foundation, with skincare benefits, and with SPF50. There isn’t a product out there that comes close to this for me in terms of CC coverage and weightlessness.” - Aisling Keenan 102 THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE BEST POWDER theBalm Mary LouManizer, €20.50 “I love this product but I’m always careful to avoid using too much as it has a tendency to make you look a little shiny. I like to completely avoid my crow’s feet and dust a little down my nose and on my Cupid’s bow instead. I also find that a little in the middle of your top lip can make them look bigger!” - Aisling O’Loughlin MAC Prep + Prime, €26.50 “MAC Prep + Prime translucent powder is great if you’ve got oily skin as it’s very absorbent so it’ll stop any shine. Just be careful not to use too much. Less is more!” – Kate O’Reilly THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE 103 BEST EYE SHADOW PALETTE Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, €46 “An obvious choice, you might say. But I was never a Naked lover, to be honest, not until Smoky came into my life. I love all 12 shades and use them all (almost) equally. The pigment is incredible and there’s not nearly as much flaking as its Naked predecessors.” - Aisling Keenan BEST EYELINER Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner, €24 “Armed with this and a good angled brush, all sorts of eyeliner techniques are achievable, from soft and smudged to a sharp feline flick. It’s a great longlasting product and there’s a fantastic range of 20 different dark shades too.” - Deanna O’Connor BEST MASCARA MAC Haute and Naughty, €25 “Studio lights can really beat you out so it’s really important to define your eyes. I like to wear false lashes but when my eyes need a break this mascara gives the same effect. I like to whack on 2-3 coats for good measure.” - Lisa Cannon 104 THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE Toolkit BEST LIP LINER MAC Whirl, €17 “I love this lip liner because the pigment is so strong. There’s something about a new MAC lip product that always manages to excite me.” - Lisa Cannon BEST LIP GLOSS Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupte, €25 “My shade in this is Rose Jersey, and I am obsessed with it. I was never a big gloss lover (not since clear Juicy Tubes age 16!) until I found this, because I didn’t believe I could get that level of shine, hydration and nonstickiness in one product. The scent is gorgeous too, not overpowering at all.” - Aisling Keenan BEST EYE LASHES Eylure, from €6.95 “I swear by Eylure lashes as they’re really great value. You can buy them anywhere and they come in really natural styles. There’s something for everyone.” - Kate O’Reilly Sally Hansen “Sally Hansen is great for someone like me who manages to chip her nail polish about 30 seconds after it dries. I’m not really a nail person but this product is foolproof, even for me. Whatever way the brush is designed makes it really easy to apply, it’s quick drying and it always gives a great finish.” - Aisling O’Loughlin BEST HAIR DRYER Tom Ford eye shadow in Cognac Sable, €70 BEST LIPSTICK Giorgio Armani, €33.50 “I love the pigment in the Giorgio Armani as it lasts for ever! I would always apply it with a lip brush as I think it gives a much better finish.” - Kate O’Reilly BEST NAIL COLOUR RANGE T3 Featherweight 2i, €235 “I’ve tested hundreds of hair dryers and I’ll be swayed with the shiny new ones for about 60 seconds before going straight back to the T3. It’s so easy to use and gives a much better finish than anything else that’s out there.” - Triona McCarthy BEST NAIL CARE BEST LUXURY MAKE-UP Tom Ford “I love Tom Ford products! I think it’s a mixture of the product, the packaging and of course the name itself. It looks so luxurious in your make-up bag that you don’t mind whipping it out for touch ups.” - Lisa Cannon BEST BRUSHES Real Techniques “I’m very impressed with the Real Techniques brushes. I met the Pixiwoo ladies who created the range in studio recently and their enthusiasm really rubbed off on me so I went in to have a look. The brushes are great! They’re made to such high standards but I’d expect nothing less from these ladies. And they’re on offer in Boots at the moment!” - Aisling O’Loughlin BEST BUDGET MAKE-UP Rimmel “I think the Rimmel foundations in particular have come on leaps and bounds recently. The consistency and colours give their more expensive counterparts a run for their money. Why spend more when you can get a great product for less?” – Karen Koster Eylure Pro Lash Individuals, €7.49 Sally Hansen Miracle Gel, €13.49 Sally Hansen “I get my nails done professionally but I find Sally Hansen great for nail care in between appointments! They’ve got something for every complaint, whether it’s brittleness, ridges, or unruly cuticles. I love the Complete Care 4-in-1, it just makes everything so handy being both a top and base coat.” - Glenda Sally Hansen Gilson Complete Care 4-in-1, €11.99 Real Technique Core Collection, €28.99 Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, €9.99 BEST HEATED STYLER ghd “The original and still the best, the power of ghd’s popularity is in the fact that they keep innovating. The new Platinum edition actually protects your hair as it works, reducing heat-related damage. The trusty ghd remains the most versatile tool around, in my opinion!” - Aisling Keenan ghd Platinum, €215 THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE 105 Hair BEST LUXURY SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER Kevin Murphy Angel Wash and Angel Rinse “This shampoo and conditioner duo is one of the standout newbies of the last year, since the range reached us from Australia recently. The range contains a lot of fine skincare ingredients, which will continue working on the hair.” Deanna O’Connor BEST BUDGET SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER L’Oréal Paris Elvive Fibrology, €5.99 “Until Fibrology came along, volumising shampoos only treated the hair externally, giving you a boost that would disappear until you washed it again. This range treats the hair internally, leaving you with volume that lasts and gets better over time. One of my definite faves!” – Aisling Keenan 106 THE IRISH BEAUTY BIBLE Hair BEST TREATMENT Nioxin Diaboost Thickening Xtrafusion Treatment, €47.99 “I count on Nioxin products to repair and rebuild my hair, and I count on Diaboost to give an instant root lift. I put a €2 size amount onto my hands, spread it round and then massage it into my scalp. It give an instant volume boost and helps protect hair shafts in the long term.” - Aisling Keenan BEST DRY SHAMPOO Batiste, €6.99 “Batiste is great because it’s cheap and cheerful. I always throw one into my shopping trolley after I’ve picked up the other essentials. It buys me time between washes and I find it’s great for grip if I want to throw my hair into an upstyle for filming.” - Karen Koster be damaged and broken forever (and that was just my soul, never mind my hair!). Okay, bit dramatic maybe, but it is really very good. A fine liquid to powder mist that amps up volume after a blow dry or refreshes second day hair. There’s no residue or stickiness, just spray and finger backcomb a bit and lank locks are transformed.” - Deanna O’Connor BEST CURLY HAIR RANGE Joico “When I find a hair care range that works with my curls I cling onto it for dear life. Every single product in the Joico curly hair range is a godsend. You know those annoying people who preach about how a product has changed their life? Well this one really has changed mine! - Claudia Gocoul BEST HAIRSPRAY Elnett, €9.99 “Elnett is really the only hairspray worth talking about. It’s such a classic and that’s because it works. I think everything from the smell to the packaging reminds everyone of their gran.” - Kate O’Reilly BEST SERUM Kerastase Resistance Therapiste Serum, €23.50 “When I got my hair extensions out, I honestly thought I was destined to Kérastase “Blonde hair can get quite dull because it’s so processed so I often need a helping hand to make mine look a bit more Kérastase Initialiste healthy. Kérastase is a great Advanced, €48 brand and although it’s a little pricey it’s worth it.” - Karen Koster BEST SHINE/ FINISH L’Oreal Paris Elvive Nutri Gloss Luminiser, €12.99 “This little gem is great for when I blow dry my own hair.
