LOCATION – All classes meet at South Plainfield High School unless noted in the course description. 2. CLASSES – Classes will be held according to locations/ time/dates noted. 3. FEES – Entire fee must be paid at registration. Tuition does not include the cost of books and supplies except where noted. 4. REFUNDS – NO COURSE FEES WILL BE REFUNDED ONCE THE CLASS HAS STARTED, EXCEPT FOR COURSES THAT ARE CANCELLED FOR LACK OF REGISTRANTS. PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF CLASS, A REFUND REQUEST MUST BE MADE IN WRITING TO THE OFFICE OF ADULT EDUCATION. A $5.00 CANCELLATION CHARGE WILL BE ASSESSED IF A STUDENT CANCELS A CLASS BEFORE THE FIRST SESSION. 5. SENIOR CITIZENS – Senior citizens age 62 or over, who are residents of South Plainfield, may attend courses for a $3.00 registration fee on a space available basis. Exceptions are: courses marked with double asterisk **. In some classes there is a special price for South Plainfield senior citizens. Noted *SPSC. 6. PROGRAM CHANGES – Because of certain possible contingencies, the Adult School must reserve the option to make any changes in course offerings, scheduling, instructors and/or room assignments as appear necessary. 7. EMERGENCY CLOSING – In the event school is closed during the day for inclement weather, the Adult School also will be closed and made up at a later date. School closing announcements will be made on WCTC 1450 AM, New Jersey Radio Station 101.5 FM. 8. The curriculum will include movement with music, exercise, arts and crafts, stories, dramatic play and safety lessons. Future Stars Fall 2011-2012 Morning and Afternoon Classes High Quality Flexible Programs / Half a Day Programs Registrations are now being taken for the Fall Semester 2011-2012. We offer classes for 2 1/2 year old who will be 2 1/2 by August 1, 2011, 3 year olds who will be 3 by October 1, 2011 and 4 year olds who will be 4 by October 1, 2011. Classes for 2 1/2 year olds meet 2 days a week in the morning and the 3 and 4 year olds meet 2 or 3 days a week in the morning or afternoon. We are also offering a 5 day a week program in the afternoon for 3 year olds and 5 days a week program in the morning or afternoon for 4 year olds. TUITION FEE PER SEMESTER (NON-REFUNDABLE) $375 $400 South Plainfield Resident - Proof of residency in South Plainfield is required Non-resident of South Plainfield Payment may be made by cash, or, check, or money order made payable to “South Plainfield Adult School” All classes are contingent upon sufficient enrollment. THE ADULT HIGH SCHOOL The Adult High School is a credit program based upon day school requirements, including attendance, completion of all assignments, satisfactory grades on all tests and final exams. An Adult High School diploma will lead you to a bright future, greater job opportunities, and advanced opportunities to attend higher education. An Adult High School graduate receives a South Plainfield Adult High School Diploma and a transcript. It is accepted by the military, employers, colleges, and schools. REGISTRATION FOR SEPTEMBER 2011 CLASSES Registration dates will be announced in August. Call 908-754-4620, ext. 385, for more information. New students should bring an unofficial copy of their High School transcript. Returning students must also re-register. The HSPA (N.J.’s required graduation test) will be given in October. If you have not passed any of the test and have at least 60 credits, be sure to register prior to the test. KEYBOARDING I / TYPING BEGINNING TO REFRESHER COURSE $80.00 Room 552 Mon, 6:45-9:00 p.m. 6 weeks – May 2, 9, 16, 23; June 6, 13 (no class May 30) Typing is an invaluable skill and is essential for many jobs and vocations. Lessons/skill development for keyboard control with emphasis on the accurate use of alphabetic and numeric keys and introduction to basic office skills. In no time, you will be typing without looking at your fingers. The class will be taught on computers. In this course the student will be learn how to format paragraphs and characters, insert and format pictures, enhance a page, proof and revise a document, and change document properties and settings. The student will also learn how to create forms and use mail merge. In this course the student will create a worksheet and embedded chart, enter text and numbers, calculate a sum, use functions, format a worksheet, add a 3-D clustered column chart, import external data and e-mail a workbook from within Excel. In this course, the student will create impressive presentations using bulleted lists and multiple fonts, develop an outline format, import outlines from Microsoft Word, create and insert charts, add effects, form and modify diagrams using shapes, insert artwork and create paper printouts. You will learn basic techniques to create well constructed baskets from beginning to end. Each student will leave with a beautiful hand woven napkin basket. A materials fee of $15 will be collected by the instructor the first day of class. Each individual will complete one basket over two evenings. All students should bring a ruler, scissors, water bucket and spray bottle to each class. The curriculum for this 4-week class (one hour perweek) includes putting, chipping and pitching, full swing, golf etiquette and golf rules. Practice balls, and all necessary equipment will be provided. Emphasis on playing on a golf course including an hour on golf course on 4th week. Ideal for the very beginner or for a wonderful quick way to relieve stress and gently stretch the body. This class focuses on the neck, shoulders and back. Breathing, and a short relaxation are included in the class. You’ll leave in a new frame of mind. A great class for right after work. Eat lightly or abstain from eating 1-2 hours before class.
