Year of Production 2011 Original Title Lykke Available in HD Happy Life is a multi-plot dramedy about ambitions and suppressed emotions, about the misty border between dreams and reality, about the dream of happiness and the organized life, where you can plan for everything, except chance The series evolves around the two 25 year-old twins, Lykke and Thomas Leth. They share a tragic past, having lost their parents at an early age, under circumstances they prefer not to talk about. The twins have reacted to their loss in very different ways. While Thomas has been undergoing therapy for depression for several years, Lykke has gained a degree at Copenhagen Business School with top marks and immediately afterwards found a job with the pharmaceutical giant SanaFortis. Here she is looking forward to a meteoric career. SanaFortis specializes in the production of psychopharmacological drugs. The antidepressant medication Forticil, has ensured blockbuster sales but the patent is on the point of expiring and a replacement is urgently needed. This is on its way under hectic circumstances in the form of the anti-stress pill, Fortisol. But the allimportant factor is still not in place: official approval of the drug. SanaFortis struggles with an annoying opponent in this connection, the psychiatrist Anders Assing, who airs his anti-pharmaceutical views at every opportunity. Lykke soon finds further reason to detest Assing as he becomes her brother’s new therapist and immediately discontinues Thomas’ anti-depressant medication. But she hates the provocative psychiatrist most of all because he appears more and more frequently in her uncontrollably erotic dreams. Lykke’s struggle for her career and her battle with Assing provide the main story in the series. This is supplemented by Thomas’ efforts to free himself from his role as a loser and SanaFortis’ fight for survival. Over and above this we meet a wide range of characters that each undergo surprising changes when their view of happiness is challenged by chance. In each of these characters stories an animal appears in a peculiar manner. These animals also give title to each episode of the series: The fish, the PHOTOS: MIKE KOLLÖFFEL, DR PHOTOS: AGNETE SCHLICHTKRULL happy life drama kids +youth documentary music+arts Directors Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, Rumle Hammerich, Annette K. Privately, Birgitte leads a happy family life with her husband and two children. She is a woman with a burning commitment, a big heart and little time. Will she be able to be a successful and professional top politician and stay true to herself at the same time? Among the many important people in Birgitte Nyborg’s professional life is her media adviser, Kasper Juul, who is one of the most talented in the business. However, he is also a cynic with no illusions, who needs to start believing in the messages which is his job to impart. Year of Production 2011 Original Title The Royal Jewels TV-series of the Year, Mediawatch drama kids +youth documentary music+arts A world very few people know but many would like to know about They have been stolen and resurrected as copies. They have been given as dowries and used as a cure for bad consciences in broken engagements. They have been hidden beneath women’s skirts and smuggled out of chaotic countries. And some are still buried in the woods of Siberia. It is the story of European civilization, where the symbols of royal power and the most visible evidence of royal dignity, the legitimacy of the family, are the impressive jewels worn at the great dinners and State visits. Few people know that some of the most fascinating jewels in the world are often tied to the high points of the history of the various royal families. Through history, the European royal families were known for their great wealth. As an expression of this, you would see them in extravagant garments and beautiful jewelry. Today, some of the monarchies are now history, but the jewels can still be seen worn by the remaining royal families at the festive occasions they attend or house. This two part documentary will take the viewer through their fascinating story and the human destinies behind them. These are stories of power, love, triumph, tragedy and honour. Episode one tells stories from the Scandinavian royal families, German principalities, the British royal family and the Benelux-countries, starting with the coronation of Emperor Napoleon in 1804, where the eyes of the world were trained on France. Napoleon Bonaparte is planning a magnificent ceremony, in which the Pope himself will crown him emperor. Incredible wealth is spent on jewellery and clothing – nothing is left to chance. Not only is Napoleon’s wife Josephine taking part in the coronation but also there is his first fiancée Désirée, wearing the most beautiful rubies and diamonds – a parure that Désirée brings with her when later she becomes Queen of Sweden. Her son marries Josephine’s granddaughter so, through several generations, the Swedish royal family inherits magnificent jewels from the French family. Today Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wears Désirée’s ruby parure. Episode two begins in Russia, where in 1917 the wealthy Grand Duchess Vladimir publicly declares her opinion of her nephew, Tsar Nicholas II, and his incompetent way of governing the country. The nephew exiles his aunt to the Caucasus and her grandiose jewels are left at the palace in St. Petersburg. During the revolution her son dresses up as a craftsman and sneaks into the palace collecting several large sets of jewellery, which are later smuggled out of Russia. Today the English Queen Elizabeth II wears the Grand Duchess’ very beautiful diamond tiara. 08 drama kids +youth documentary music+arts DR International Sales DR Byen Emil Holms Kanal 20 DK-0999 Copenhagen C Denmark tel. +45 3520 3040 fax +45 3520 3969 www.drsales.dk [email protected] new 09 – the beauty of a diamond Producers & Directors Cathrine la Cour & Niels Birkemose Produced by Elmstreet Media Duration 50 min. Throughout history we have fought, conquered, killed and been killed in the name of love. We have written songs, poems and books in an attempt to capture this ultimate feeling. One can get intoxicatingly “high” from love, when it really takes hold – but fear of abandonment can be an accompanying toxic spice, ruining the sense of happiness: Do you love me as much as I love you? This question is constantly present and can be as exhausting as the battle of life and death. How does it feel when every decision, every thought and every single second only depends on another person’s actions? And what if these actions become the foundation for your entire existence? How does it feel to be addicted to love? This new documentary by Pernille Rose Grønkjær (The Monastry) describes how romantic love can evolve into an all consuming obsession. Year of Production 2011 Original Title Love Addict – Not a Love Story drama kids +youth documentary music+arts entails and where it comes from. Most of us know of love’s intoxication: You can act crazy, behave irrationally and feel that you are totally obsessed with another person for a short period of time. In this way many of us have been addicted to love for shorter periods or in moments. What determines whether you are a love addict or not is whether the obsession continues and escalates. As an addict the feeling of love becomes an absolute necessity for survival – like alcohol is for alcoholics and drugs for drug addicts. You will do anything for a fix and in chasing it you build up a fantasy around the person you are addicted to. You live only through his or her actions. Your life becomes secondary and you try to escape who you really are. A kind of escapism. Most love addicts do not like themselves and therefore it is much more appealing to live their life through others. A love addict lives in a vicious circle – a bad pattern they repeat from one relationship to another. If you do not get “fixed” in your relationship or if the relationship breaks up you immediately must find a new one to feel the rush again. You are not actually No material in the world reflects light as powerfully as a diamond Diamonds have always been the ultimate symbol of wealth, courage and everlasting love. Sparkling with such an overwhelming beauty, it is often said that diamonds must contain fragments from the birth of our Universe. When the light hits a pure and perfectly cut diamond, it is reflected with such overwhelming beauty, that the most beautiful women stand in line to decorate themselves with these valuable stones. The Light of Eternity – the beauty of a diamond is a journey into the seductive world of diamonds and the fascinating craftsmanship that transforms what is in essence just a stone among other stones into a shiny and sparkling jewel. Set in Antwerp, the traditional capital of diamonds, the film exclusively takes the viewers behind the closed doors of a secret world of discretion and integrity. Here they have traded and manufactured diamonds for centuries according to four strict parameters, also known as the diamonds four Cs: Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat Weight. Through the outstanding cinematography of award winning DOP Lars Skree (Armadillo), viewers witness diamond deals worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. And follow the process that turns stones into jewels: from the grading of quality to the extremely difficult craft of polishing diamonds in one of the world’s leading polishing factories. Run by a young crew – all 3rd and 4th generation of diamond polisher families – the company successfully combines traditional methods with highly advanced computer technology in setting new standards for the beauty of diamonds. new big city, big spirit – a jewelled love story interested in meeting another person, your only focus is the rush. In that way a love addict is never able to obtain a real relation. The relationship stays a fantasy and an illusion of how it could be and not of how it really is. Ultimately, addiction leads one into a very destructive pattern and depression, despair and anxiety often follow with. Addiction varies in strength, but in the worst cases, it may end up with suicide or murder. Ultimately you are having a very destructive pattern in your love life. Year of Production 2011 Original Title The Micro Debt MIPDOC Video Library Available in HD A critical investigation into the dark side of microcredit loans For decades Microcredit has been hailed as the #1 solution to eradicate poverty. But then journalist Tom Heinemann met with a woman living in a slum-like house outside the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. Shortly before, she had sold her house in order to pay her weekly instalments. For months, she had been intimidated and harassed by the members of her loan group and by the loan officers. This was the first in a string of interviews with poor people in Bangladesh, India and Mexico. The loan-takers told the same story: Most of them had numerous loans in NGO’s and Micro Finance Institutions – and many must take new loans to cover the old ones. They pay annual interest rates ranging from 30-200 %, and they are under extreme social pressure not to mention how cruel some of the loan officers behave when it comes to default a single weekly payment. The film also takes a close look at the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus and reveals a num- ber of secret documents proving how Grameen Bank back in the mid-90’s transferred 100 mio USD − where most was donated as grants from Norway, Sweden, Germany, USA and Canada − to a new company in the Grameen-family in order to avoid tax. new Director Weijun Chen Producer Lawrence Elman Produced by Amber Entertainment Ltd & Drive Thru Pictures for BBC & DR Duration 4 x 30 min. The story of Codename Curveball and one the most incredible fabrications in modern history An Iraqi engineer arrives in Germany late 1999 and applies for asylum. He immediately starts to tell the German Intelligence Service, BND, a detailed account of Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction. His most famous account is that of seven mobile biological trucks which could function as small factories and be driven around in Iraq – and a tale about a serious accident with a number of deaths. This documentary reveals that 40 days before the war UN-inspectors had inspected 11 sites nominated by Curveball as central to his account. However the inspectors had concluded that there was not the faintest possibility that these sites had ever seen a chemical or biological weapon. Eyewitnesses reveal how people inside the CIA raised serious concern about Curveball’s account before Secretary Powell used Curveball in his presentation to the UN. This concern was fuelled by the German intelligence service BND who wrote directly to the director of CIA. The story of Curveball offers a unique voyage into the secret world of international politics and secret services – done through one man’s lies which killed hundreds of thousands of his fellow countrymen. 12 drama kids +youth documentary music+arts DR International Sales DR Byen Emil Holms Kanal 20 DK-0999 Copenhagen C Denmark tel. +45 3520 3040 fax +45 3520 3969 www.drsales.dk [email protected] new the good life Director Eva Mulvad Producer Sigrid Dyekjær Produced by Danish Documentary for TV2, NRK & SVT Duration 75 min. & 58 min. Jackie, an ex-beauty pageant star, and David S., a real estate magnate, are a marriage of beauty and money. And they are materializing their union in a 90 000 square foot “home”: a playground for their eight children and a mini-kingdom of imported marble (5 million dollars worth), fairytale staircases, and wet and wild pools. The gargantuan construction, aptly named “Versailles” and inspired—in equal measures—by the eponymous chateau in Ile-de-France, and the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, serves as a symbolic backdrop for Jackie and David’s personal journey as they navigate financial setbacks that force them to put their dream house on the market, and consider the prospect of bankruptcy. The cinema verité film intimately documents a wealthy family’s over-the-top lifestyle and subsequent dramatic fall as the financial crisis devastates their personal wealth.
