of balance. Exotic invasive species can change that balance,
because the predators, diseases and natural conditions
that keep their populations under control in their original
habitat often do not exist in their new homes. The effects of
invasion can be devastating, including breaking down food
webs and altering natural habitats.

The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) was
formed by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners in 1967 to address flooding on Minnehaha Creek. In
partnership with 29 communities, other agencies and organizations, and concerned citizens, the
MCWD monitors, manages, restores and
conserves the district’s lakes, streams,
and wetlands, and related natural
resources. This autonomous government
body is funded by small additions to
property taxes in the District.
