MRD News: Master Plan of
Woodgate Property Continues!
The week of August 21st, several community
meetings were held to present the status of the
Woodgate Master Plan and to collect feedback. The
power point presentation from these meetings, may
be viewed by clicking here. This link also includes
a survey we'd like you to take if you have not already
done so as well as a summary of the survey
results we received at the community meetings.
This feedback, along with guidance given by the
MRD Board of Directors, will be incorporated to
further progress the plan. At MRD Board of
Directors meetings over the next two months, the
plan will be further refined. These include Thursday
September 19th at 11:30am and Thursday October
24th at 11:30am, both at the Aquatic Center.
The final plan will then be presented at the
Wednesday November 20th Community Meetings:
1pm at the Aquatic Center, 25 Colorado, and at 6pm
at the Montrose High School Cafeteria, 600 S. Selig.
Please come join us!

MRD News...Expansion of the Delta
Rec. Center.
Recently, the Delta community voted to approve an extension
of 0.75% of the original 1% sales tax to expand and
renovate their recreation center. The 1% sales tax that was
approved in 1991 built the recreation center, public funds that
were used to mostly pay the bond that was expired in 2011.
The initial vote in 1991 passed with 72% support and the
extension in 2010 passed with 78% support.
The expansion project
includes a state-of-the
art indoor warm
wellness pool with a
variable speed lazy
river and water features,
a therapy pool, family
locker area, expanded
weights and cardio

Montrose its first
multipurpose recreation
center similar to the facility in Delta. The amount of additional
resources needed will be much less than was approved in Delta
to build their center including the expansion. This is due in part
to MRD's aggressive savings of existing budget, about 1/3 of
total revenues (approximately $800,000 per year).
MRD News: Summer of Health
Goes Out with a Bang!
Congratulations and thanks to all the participants in the
Summer of Health weight loss challenge and the youth
passport to health program! This 10 week initiative
recently culiminated in a final weight out and celebration.
A special congrats to the Crazy Dames Love Tacos team in
the Summer of Health weight loss competition. This team
consisted of MRD's very own Tracie Rief, Lou Fay, Donna
Stephens and Cindy Marino. The team lost a collective
58.7 pounds (see article from Sunday's Daily Press by
clicking here), which earned them the silver medal!
The Summer of Health Initiative was a partnership
between the MRD, the Montrose Daily
Press, Montrose County, Montrose Memorial Hospital, the
Center for Mental Health, the City of Montrose and Livewell
Montrose-Olathe. The full initiative was a 10 week
community driven program dedicated to healthier living.
The community embraced the Summer of Health, with over
2000 youth passports distributed and hundreds of adult
participants in the weight loss challenge.
We'd like to thank everyone who participated, our
partners that made it such a success and the Montrose
community for practicing healthy eating and active living!

children earned black belts.
Hue was no stranger to martial arts having grown up training in
martial arts in his homeland of Vietnam.
In addition to being voted MRD part time employees of the
quarter by MRD staff, these two gentlemen are retiring from
teaching after many years of service to the citizens of
Montrose.
Mr. Dooley and Mr. Le have made traditional Martial art
character building values the cornerstone of their instruction
program. The two share these values and are close friends as
well as fellow instructors.
We thank Mr. Dooley and Mr. Le for working through the
Montrose Recreation District all these years. Mr. Dooley has
always maintained that recreation, including martial arts, is
essential to a healthy and viable community. This is why he has
opted to teach through MRD throughout the years. We thank
you both for your commitment. We wish all the best of luck in
future endeavors and extend a sincere thank you for
tremendous contributions to the Montrose Community.
