Thiel Tomcats [1-3, 0-2 PAC] at Saint Vincent Bearcats [2-2, 1-1 PAC] Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 w 1 p.m. w Chuck Noll Field w Latrobe, Pa. Week 5: Thiel at Saint Vincent T he Tomcats (1-3) will put their threegame winning streak against the Bearcats on the line Saturday when they travel to Chuck Noll Field in Latrobe, Pa., for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference matchup at 1 p.m. The Tomcats are looking for their first win since defeating the Allegheny Gators 37-21 in the seasonopener. The Bearcats, on the other hand, enter the contest with an even 2-2 record with wins over Waynesburg and Grove City. Saint Vincent is 6-8 since Ron Dolciato took over the football program prior to the 2014 season. The Bearcats have used two quarterbacks this season – Evan Shimensky and Tyler Donahue. Shimensky has completed 51 passes for 599 yards while Donahue has connected on 18 passes for 321 yards. The duo’s favorite target is Damon Black, a 6-foot, 3-inch wide receiver who has 18 catches on the season for 271 yards. He has three touchdown catches on the year. Saint Vincent will have to be aware of Thiel defenders Reily Shane and Doak Walker Jr., among others. Shane leads the PAC with nine tackles for loss on the season, and his four sacks rank him second in the league. Walker Junior, the Tomcats’ Sam Linebacker, averages 8.2 tackles per game, the seventh most in the PAC. Offensively, the Tomcats will look to clean up their miscues from last Saturday. They were 1-for-3 in the red zone and committed two turnovers against the Case Western Reserve Spartans. Tomcat quarterback Ryan Radke continues to be one of the top pass-run threats in the conference with an average of 222 total yards per game, the fifth best average in the league. Radke will hand off to a solid group of running backs, including freshman Kevin Daly, who averages 61.3 yards per game, the ninth most in the PAC. The quarterback’s top targets are Alex Horvatits, Ron Howard and Paul Jones. Horvatits leads the Tomcats with 17 catches for 239 yards. Horvatits and Jones have combined for five touchdown receptions. Series in Brief 2015 Schedule/Results Series. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Greenville, Pa. 16125 ThielAthletics.com The Tomcats responded with a touchdown drive of their own on their next possession when Ryan Radke scored on a five-yard run to put the finishing touches on an eight-play march that ended with 11 seconds remaining in the first frame. Thiel’s extra point try was no good, and the Spartans maintained a 7-6 lead. Case Western went ahead 14-6 on its next drive on a one-yard touchdown run by Anthony Canganelli with 11:15 left in the second quarter. Thiel drove down to the Case Western 14-yard line on the ensuing drive, but did not come up with any points after turning the ball over on downs. On their next possession the Tomcats drove down to the five-yard line, but the Spartans again forced them to turn the ball over on downs. The Spartans went into halftime with a 21-6 lead after Cuda threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to DiFrancesco with no time remaining on the game clock. Case Western Reserve added three more touchdowns in the second half and refused to allow another point to Thiel to earn the conference win. Cuda completed 20-of-31 passes on the day for 250 yards. He threw three touchdown passes. He also led the Spartans on the ground with 91 yards on eight carries. Cuda also ran for a touchdown late in the third quarter. DiFrancesco and Ethan Albers each caught two passes for the Spartans for 78 and 75 yards, respectively. Radke completed 13-of-27 passes for 166 yards. Kevin Daly led the Tomcats on the ground with 58 yards on nine carries. Tight end Ryan Rowland caught two passes for 57 yards. Jake Elk led the Tomcats on defense with 13 tackles, two of which were behind the line of scrimmage. Elk also recorded 1.5 sacks. Last Year Against Saint Vincent Trailing 17-7 at the half, the Thiel Tomcats scratched out a 21-20 homecoming victory over the Saint Vincent Bearcats behind two secondhalf touchdowns. The Tomcats began their comeback after receiving the opening kickoff in the second half. Taylor Fink carried the ball seven times on the drive for 64 yards, which culminated with a seven-yard Page 2 touchdown pass from Radke to fullback Rich Smallwood. The extra point was good, and the Tomcats trailed by just three points. The Bearcats added to their lead on the ensuing drive when Morgan Porter kicked a 28-yard field goal, which hit the left upright but ricocheted through the posts. Backed up in his own end late in the third quarter, Bearcat quarterback Andy Borgen’s third-and-six pass was intercepted by freshman Joe Serratore. He picked off the pass at the Saint Vincent 33-yard line and returned it to the 19-yard line. Serratore’s interception set up the game-winning touchdown for the Tomcats, which was scored four plays later when Branden Dice scored on a 2-yard run. The go-ahead extra point was good, and the Tomcats held on for the win. The Bearcats drove into scoring range twice later in the fourth quarter, but Porter missed field goals of 30- (wide left) and 42-yards (short). After Porter’s second missed field goal, the Tomcats took over at their own 24-yard line and embarked on their most important and perhaps most impressive drive of the game. Behind Fink, who carried eight times for 29 hard-fought yards, the Tomcats successfully ran out the final six minutes and 27 seconds, refusing to allow the Bearcats another chance to earn the win. Radke ran for 148 yards, including a 55-yard scamper, on 16 totes. Fink and Radke’s 100-yard performances marked the first time two Thiel players ran for more than 100 yards in a game since Nov. 10, 2012 when the Tomcats suffered a 21-7 loss to the Grove City Wolverines. Thiel ran for 310 yards Saturday and limited the Bearcats to 77 yards on the ground. Radke completed 7-of-20 passes for 62 yards with one touchdown pass. Defensive tackle Reily Shane notched two sacks for the Tomcats while Serratore made seven tackles, and his fourth-quarter interception set up the Tomcats’ game-winning touchdown. Radke Running for Record To date, Radke has amassed 1,508 career rushing yards, which currently ranks him third all-time among PAC quarterbacks. The PAC and its membership continue its original, defining mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Currently comprised of 10 select private institutions – Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Thomas More College, Washington & Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College – the PAC remains a unique organization in this day of high pressure intercollegiate athletics. With academics at the center of each member’s philosophy, the PAC is built on the principle that an athletic program is a part of college life, but not an entity in itself. The PAC expanded its membership to seven members in 2005 with the addition of Thomas More, formerly a NCAA Division III independent. Saint Vincent, a former NAIA member, joined the conference in 2006 as it began its reclassification to NCAA Division III status. Another former NAIA member, Geneva, became the conference’s ninth member and began league play in 2007 as it started its NCAA Division III reclassification. Chatham became the league’s 10th member, also in 2007. In 2012, the PAC Presidents’ Council voted to add Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve University as affiliate members in the sport of football beginning with the 2014 season. The PAC crowns league champions and awards allconference honors in its 21 championship sports. Head coaches determine all-PAC squads for all team sports, while in individual sports, such as cross country and tennis, all-PAC accolades are based upon performances at the conference championships. In addition to its 21 sponsored championship sports, the PAC partnered with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) to create the singlesport Ohio River Lacrosse Conferences (ORLC & ORWLC) in 2014, with both kicking off league schedules during the spring of 2015. The PAC annually awards its men’s and women’s AllSports Trophies to the schools which perform best across the board in PAC competition. 2015 Thiel College Football Thiel roster | NUMERICAL # Name Cl. 1 Dalton Dubrosky Fr. 2 Rob Thompson So. 3 Pat Shaffer Sr. 4 Chris Jones Jr. 5 Walter Lee Jr. 6 Josh Dando Fr. 6 Ben Ratka Fr. 7 Brandon Forester Fr. 7 Adam Tajuddin So. 8 Hayden Kaizen So. 9 Aaron Mason So. 10 Ron Howard Sr. 11 Trevor Martin Jr. 11 Cody Sines Fr. 12 Jarrett Pound Fr. 13 Ryan Radke Jr. 14 Alex Horvatits Jr. 15 Jake Vormelker Fr. 16 Richard Proper Fr. 17 Nick Sarratori So. 18 Tyshaun Franklin Fr. 19 Cody Dinger Fr. 20 Joe Serratore So. 21 Cy Carroll So. 22 Jake Elk So. 23 Grant Syster Fr. 24 Evan Imgrund Fr. 25 Andrew Wingard Fr. 26 Kenneth Walston Fr. 27 Kevin Daly Fr. 28 Zach Stiglitz Fr. 29 Bill Miles Fr. 30 Dalton Hewitt Fr. 31 Trey Andrews So. 32 Jaime Sommers Fr. 33 Tanner Lucido Fr. 34 Keyonia Dennis Fr. 35 Nick Huth Fr. 36 Nick Black Fr. 37 Zac Horner Fr. 38 Dylan Squires So. 39 Randy Groves Fr. 40 Devin Karalfa-Jordan Fr. 42 Cody Dennis Fr. 43 Gram Nelson So. 44 Doak Walker Jr. Fr. 45 Austin Becker Fr. 46 Alex Porco Fr. 47 Shane Russell So. 48 Justin Zinsmeister So. 49 Nick Watson Fr. 50 Branden Baideme Fr. 50 Jake Swan Jr. 51 Nick Ravida Sr. 52 Rayshaun Nevins Jr. 53 Tyron Bynum Fr. 53 Dusty Maines Fr. 54 Ben Stritzinger Fr. 55 Manny Espinoza So. 56 Phil Kyle So. 57 Brody Suter Fr.
