Exhibited Works In the National Art Center, Tokyo’s spacious exhibition area, dynamic installations, graphic art works, interactive art, games, gadgets, experience-based works and exhibitions of manga and animations along with their related documentation can be viewed. The exhibition is centered around the Award-winning Works of the four divisions of the JMAF. Exhibition Space Design: NAKAMURA Ryuji (Ryuji Nakamura and Associates) Born 1972 in Nagano Prefecture. After finishing a Masters course at Tokyo University of Arts and Music, he worked for the Aoki Jun Office and in 2004 founded Ryuji Nakamura and Associates. Besides the design of private houses and stores, he also creates exhibition spaces, installations in museums and stage design. Among his major awards are the “Good Design Award” (2006), “The Great Indoors Award” [Netherlands] (2007) and the “JCD Design Award”. Exhibition Concept: I have been working on a concept which, to the maximum extent possible, exploits the width of the 2,000 square meter exhibition space in order to create an experience intimately connected to that specific space. The large roof hanging down from the center of the ceiling creates corridors varying in height and thereby gradually divides the space. This suggests just one possible approach to assembling, in one space, a collection of “Media” works which are usually considered "placeless". <List of works included in the exhibition> not including the works of the Manga Library. Please check the JMAF Official Website for up-to date information. http://j-mediaarts.jp/?locale=en ■ National Art Center, Tokyo (Special Exhibition Gallery 1E [1F]) ■ National Art Center, Tokyo (Lecture Room B [3F]) ■ Cinem@rt Roppongi (Cinem@rt Hall [3F]) ■ Tokyo Midtown (Atrium [Galleria B1F] / Courtyard) ■ SuperDeluxe Division Art Award Title of work Artist Name / Name of Awardee Category of work Venue/Presentation form Grand Prize crt mgn Carsten NICOLAI Media installation Exhibition Excellence Award The blank to overcome MIHARA Soichiro Media installation Exhibition Dronestagram James BRIDLE Website Exhibition Situation Rooms Rimini Protokoll Interactive art Exhibition (Documentation) The Big Atlas of LA Pools Benedikt GROSS Data art Exhibition 2/13 The 17th Japan Media Arts Festival Division Art Award Title of work New Face Award Learn to be a Machine | DistantObject #1 LAU Hochi Interactive art Exhibition Maquila Region 4 Amor MUNOZ Media performance Exhibition The SKOR Codex La Societe Anonyme Graphic art Exhibition Zombie Music YASUNO Taro Jury Selection Entertainment Artist Name / Name of Awardee Press Release January 31, 2014 Category of work Venue/Presentation form Media performance Performance Toki Ori Ori Nasu -Falling Records- WADA Ei Media installation Exhibition Exhibition an object of metamorphose FUKUSHIMA Satoshi / HAMAJI Junichi Website Booth presentation Performance Archipelago Science Fiction Tellervo KALLEINEN, representative of “Archipelago Science Fiction” Production Team Video work Screening Screening ENACT Nanette YANNUZZI / Ann TORKE Website Booth presentation Majub's Journey Eva KNOPF Video work Screening Screening outsourced views / visual economies Yuri PATTISON Website Booth presentation The Joycean Society Dora GARCIA Video work Screening Trades Mathieu BERNARD-REYMOND Graphic Art Exhibition Transcalar Investment Vehicles Hilary KOOB-SASSEN Video work Screening uniónde... Based on these two works, which allow us to perceive phenomena and become aware of the present moment, this talk event will reflect on how media arts trigger our perception of the world.
