Let your memory be your travel bag.” Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn Dear reader, You are holding a special book in your hand that may open you the door to unforgettable experiences. Please, do not mistake it for one of those high gloss travel catalogues you page through before booking an all inclusive holiday. The Summer University is so much more than that; and I do sincerely hope this year you will discover the secret of one of the most fascinating projects of AEGEE. Once you lived it, you will never want to miss it again. You have the choice to experience countries and places far beyond the typical tourism hot spots. You have the choice between such diverse topics like language, history, photography, music, sports, travel - but always under the premise of multiculturalism. You have the choice to spend 2-4 weeks with people from more than 20 (European) countries offering you the unique chance to discover the life and fascination of one or more nations by taking the perspective of its inhabitants. You do not come as a tourist but as a friend. Do take your time when reading this booklet and making your choice. It’s an offer you shouldn’t miss and that should be used wisely. Cause at the end, it’s all about overcoming borders, making new experiences and friends for a lifetime. Many years later you will still look back at those incredible moments you spent during your youth: the time you learned the great language of a minority; when you spent a day out with people from Spain, Finland, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Macedonia and more as if it was the most usual; when you learned about the daily life of your Dutch friend while listening to Hungarian songs and drinking Estonian liqueur. Take this booklet and make the first step to one of the greatest memories of your life. Let it be the first item to put into your travel bag and let the journey begin in your mind. Regards, Kamala Schütze 7 SUMMERUNIVESITYPROJECT ISSUPPORTEDBY: 9 SUMMERUNIVERSITYPROJECT ISCO-ORDINATEDBY: Katrin Tomson (AEGEE-Tartu) Project Manager Dea Cavallaro (AEGEE-Roma) Publications Dario Di Girolamo (AEGEE-Palermo) Public Relations Bojan Bedrač (AEGEE-Maribor) IT Responsible Percin Imrek (AEGEE-Çanakkale) CD member appointed 11 PARTNERSFOR2009: DANCE Working Group Dear SU participants and organizers! In this framework, the Academy, together with other AEGEE bodies, tries to contribute to the improvement of the AEGEE Human Resources. Our aim is to provide AEGEE members with the tools and the knowledge to develop the projects and challenges they believe in, in order to reach the main goals of our association. In co-operation with external and internal bodies we organise diverse and high-level training events and promote the participation of our members in external trainings. Academy is providing the Network with training materials and other facilities, such as: the LTC package and other Internal Education documents, the Trainers database, the HR database. Regarding SUs, AEGEE – Academy is organising in co-operation with SU Coordination Team a Summer University Project School once per year. This is the event aimed at training the people that will be contributing in making the SU Project better in the next years. The SUPS is a one week training intended for people interested in Summer University Project that aims in giving tools for participants for organizing a content-full and interesting Summer University. The Academy –Working for our Human Resources! For more: www.aegee-academy.org/ [email protected] 13 ENVIRONMENTAL Working Group Environment and nature affects us all whether we like it or not through weather, food chains, water, energy, wildlife and so on. But being responsible and caring about the things around us doesn’t mean that we have to be hard-core „green” people, always telling people what to do or not to do, it can be also part of fun activities, summer adventures and discovering new places and cultures. Just like last year, also in 2009 you can find some Summer University with green theme, either offering you some workshop, trips connected to environment and nature, or trying to organise the SU in more environmental friendly way. AEGEE locals organising Green SU don’t only just offer you cultural exchange and summer fun, but also try to take some responsibility towards our environment and our own future, these things can be combined! Have a look into this booklet and find out how different locals have taken up this challenge, maybe you will be attending the SU that will be rewarded with the Greenest SU Award in Autumn Agora 2009. But remember, that you as SU participants yourself can make your SU’s a bit more environmental friendly, being an example for the rest of the participants, act with respect towards local traditions and nature, try to learn something from the places you visit, buy products made by small local producers, try to find more environmental friendly ways of travelling (train, boat, bus), try to produce less garbage and don’t throw it into nature. It is located in the center of the country. Due to its geographical location and history, Madrid has been considered the financial and political center of Spain. As the former capital of the old Spainsh Empire, Madrid has been bestowed with a degree of cultural predominance. Toledo: The capital of the province of Toledo. Successively a Roman municipality, the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom, a fortress of the Emirate of Cordoba, an outpost of the Christian kingdoms fighting the Moors and, in the 16th century, the temporary seat of supreme power under Charles V, Toledo is the repository of more than 2,000 years of history. Its masterpieces are the product of heterogeneous civilizations in an environment where the existence of three major religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – was a major factor. Monastery and Site of the Escorial: Near to Madrid, the Escorial Monastery stands in an exceptionally beautiful site in Castile. Its austere architecture, a break with previous styles, had a considerable influence on Spanish architecture for more than half a century. It was the retreat of a mystic king and became, in the last years of Philip II's reign, the centre of the greatest political power of the time. Segovia: Segovia is Spain at its best - twisting alleyways, the highest concentration of Romanesque churches in all of Europe, pedestrian streets where no cars are allowed, the aroma of roast suckling pig around every corner. The famous Alcázar castle, source of inspiration to Walt Disney, and where Queen Isabel promised Columbus the financial backing he needed to discover America. La Granja de San Ildefonso: At the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains, stands the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, a grand and impressive complex, built on the site of an old hostel run by the Hieronymite monks from the Monasterio del Parral monastery in Segovia. Bojan: It is now almost three years since I visited my first AEGEE event. It was a Summer University in Eskisehir in 2006. Ever since I was connected to AEGEE in every way, but mostly through the active and positive spirit that makes us meet. The force that is moving us to explore and experience new places ant things is coming from this spirit. It is my honour to be part of this years SUCT and be able to give my share of experience, which will enable all of you to have an unforgettable summer. Thank you to all the organizers of Summer Universities I visited for inspiring me to take this road in AEGEE. I wish you all a fantastic summer and let the spirit reach your hearts! Percin: Every success that you achieve in life is easier and more meaningful if you achieve this success with a group that you believe in and enjoy working with. I had the chance to work with SUCT team this year, on this big and important project of AEGEE, Summer Universities. Working with people knowing and believing in the values of AEGEE made me even more motivated to contribute to the SU project. Hence, firstly I would like to thank that SUCT team that is working a lot and dedicating themselves for the success and sustainibility of the SU project. I would also like to thank to my CD colleagues that helped me, whenever I needed their help, without any hesitation. Of course since this project is for AEGEE members, I would like to thank all the AEGEE network and hope that you will learn, enjoy and most importantly, have an amazing experience in the Summer Universities of AEGEE. 189 finito di stampare nel mese di febbraio 2009 MouseArt - Roma
