hey’ve been at it for years, traveling slowly,
spending a month or more at a single location.
For them, it’s about experiencing an area as
those who live there do. Carine Camboulives and
Manu Bouvet don’t stay in fancy hotels; they ask for the
hospitality of the people, and they get it because of
who Manu and Carine are: happy, humble, enthusiastic,
hard­working people who look you in the eye and
greet you with a smile. “Zee ting some people don’t

done treeps where we go somewhere no one like uz has
been before, and we camp on zee beach for a monse.
Sometimes it iz beautiful. But sometimes, it can be ard,

Camboulives spent her early years in Paris. Like many

old. “It was horrible…” says Carine of the early days of
sailing. “The little boats, the bad weather—and we were
such little children.”
Luckily Carine’s older brother Serge got into

and took her out on it when she was nine. Many of

Guadeloupe. Then in 1993, Carine and Manu spent
six months on Maui interning at a business focused
on vacation rental. It was on this trip that the couple

1994 and further established

Connection. They focused

North Shore vacation rentals
for international clientele.
The business ran through

still operates not far from its
original location where Manu

Manu worked on getting
clientele, which meant he
needed to go and meet with
all the North Shore property owners so he could speak
intelligently to perspective clients about housing options.
This was a great opportunity for this likeable young
Frenchman to meet pretty much everyone on the North
Shore, since pretty much everyone was into vacation

Maui, Carine and Manu went to Tahiti for a month with
Teiva, and they have remained lifelong friends—in fact,
Teiva is the godfather of Carine and Manu’s daughter
Lou.

After Tahiti it was back to Maui and modeling for

was putting together an international travel team, an

primary resources for travel pieces the world over.

International Connection plus whatever else they could
muster, the couple sealed the deal on a North Shore

pass on all his years of experience and knowledge. The
next thing they know, Carine and Manu are water lily
farmers.

Over the years, Manu and Carine have handled

Traveling With a Child Without Missing a Beat
Pre kid, Carine and Manu had to work logistics for

Last fall, while back in France after a trip in remote

about what she had recently been up to. This included
staying with tribal kids in areas where
few Caucasians have been before.

school asked Manu and Carine if
they would share their experience
