BEHOLD HOW GOOD AND PLEASANT IT IS FOR BROTHERS TO DWELL TOGETHER IN UNITY…..
FRATERNAL GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO OUR MASONIC DIGEST!
To God Be the Glory! I’m truly excited as we start this year off with great enthusiasm. The Jurisdiction of Georgia has
come a long way over the past year, I couldn’t have done it on my own. To thank you adequately is impossible. I know
that each of you have expended a great deal of personal efforts and time in serving your various Lodges and Chapters,
know that I’m grateful for your sacrifices. The Masonic Digest is an opportunity for Lodges and Chapters to showcase
all of your great community service efforts as well as other activities that are going on throughout the jurisdiction. I
encourage you to send in your pictures for publication. It is a great tool to publish events such as Lodge Anniversaries, Scholarship Banquets, Prayer Breakfasts and Teas. I will be looking to see who’s sending in all those great
community service pictures! I’m looking forward to seeing each of you next weekend at the Mid-Winter Meeting. Until then, please travel safe and God’s Blessings to each of you!

To the Honorable Bruce A. James, Most Worshipful Grand Master, Grand Chapter Officers, Sisters
and Brothers
Greetings,
I am elated to serve this magnificent Prince Hall Grand Chapter, representing you, my Sisters and
Brothers in the wonderful Jurisdiction of Georgia.
As we prepare for the session let us recall the courageous Heroine, Esther, a Jewish maiden. She
was the most beautiful woman in the land and caught the eye of a divorced, lonely and powerful
King Xerxes who made her Queen. After hearing of the treacherous edict issued by Haman to kill
all Jews, Esther found favor with the King and saved her people asking him to "Grant me my life
and spare my people”. Esther's selfless courage and appeal for her people is celebrated annually
during a festival called Purim.
Sisters, it is my wish that you live a pure and spotless life, willing to make sacrifices exemplifying
the virtues of Queen Esther. A pure and upright life can only come from pure thoughts.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at the 118th Annual Grand Session June 14th - 17th, hosted
by Macon District No. 5. May the Lord grant each of you traveling mercy.
With Sisterly love!

THE PRINCE HALL GEORGIA TAG IS IN FULL EFFECT!!
Greetings PHAmily,
As you should be aware from Grand Master Bruce James’ latest proclamation, the push to
obtain a Prince Hall Georgia tag is in full effect. The team assigned to secure the required
1,000 paid applications has already met to develop a plan that will ensure the success of this
endeavor.
Keep in mind that displaying a Prince Hall tag can have many positive impacts. The unique
design is an effective way to honor our Founder, Prince Hall. This is also a way to show our
pride and solidarity as members and make the public aware of our great organization’s existence.
The Grand Director of Technology, R.W. Deputy Grand Master Corey Shackleford, Sr., is in
the process of updating the Grand Lodge’s website to include a picture of the tag, a downloadable application form, an online payment option, frequently asked questions, and contact information. Additionally, the committee Chairpersons, PM Marcus Cromartie and
DWM Denise Mundy will have a table setup during Prince Hall Weekend to accept orders,
payments, and answers any additional questions you may have.
Let’s Make This Tag A Reality!
Respectfully,
Brother Jonathan S. White
Grand Junior Warden

Q. Who can get a Prince Hall Specialty Tag?
A.
Members of the Prince Hall Family of Masons and Eastern Stars.

Q. What form of payment is accepted for my application (manufacturing) fee?
A.
Payments must be made by cashier’s check, money order, cash or debit card. Checks and money orders should be made Payable to:
Prince Hall Specialty Tag. Members of the committee will be available at Prince Hall Day 2015.
Q. How long will it take before the tag is available?
A.

“Can I not get that MJ?”
This is a question I get in my practice from time to time as a physician
anesthesiologist when counseling my patients on their needs in the
course of perioperative care. This question was particular prevalent
about June of 2009 surrounding the untimely demise of music legend
Michael Jackson. Propofol pharmaceutical name Diprivan is a medication utilized for the purpose of inducing amnesia for events. It is giving
intravenously to produce a level of hypnosis which can be used for procedural sedation up to and including full general anesthesia requiring mechanical ventilator support. This drug has essential replaced Sodium
Pentothal as the predominate medication for inducing hypnosis in our
armamentarium.
Propofol (Diprivan) has a low side effect profile. It induces sleep quickly,
effectively and consistently. It has minimal after effects with the patient
being clear of mind and able to engage in activities of daily life soon after
discontinuation of the medication. It clears the body quickly as compared to other medications of the same class. Because it is so beneficial
it lends itself to the possibility of abuse. Propofol (Diprivan) has the
nicknames in the industry as “milk of amnesia “ or “mother ‘s milk” due to its milk like appearance in its
container or medical vial. There are very few reasons not to use this medication in the course of anesthesia. We tend not to use it in patients who state they have an allergy to eggs. The manufacturing process
utilizes eggs in its components. There may be cases where a patient may notice pain on injection but that
would be short lived for you are soon asleep.
As akin to all pharmaceuticals this tool is safe when utilized by proper craftsmen. Members of the medical profession which have proper training and skill set to administer medications in anesthesia. An Anesthesiologist is a physician that has completed many years medicine and trained in the field of anesthesiology. A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a nurse who has extended their training in the
field of anesthesia. CRNA’s may work independently or in a team model with the anesthesiologist. An
Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) is also a mid-level practitioner who must work under the supervision of
an anesthesiologist
Propofol (Diprivan) is safe when used by the proper personal in the correct professional setting. It is not
a medication for home usage. It should only be utilized by those trained in anesthesia as listed above or
only those that have good airway management skills. It should only be administered in a hospital or medical clinic or office setting. It requires that proper monitoring, medical and airway management resources are immediately available. It is an excellent drug when utilized for the purpose it was designed.
I have no financial interest in this product or in any products related to the use of this medication. I am
seeking to educate the general public and my Masonic PHAmily. If you have questions please respond to
the Masonic Digest or my email at [email protected]

Atlanta District No. 3 East, Thanksgiving and Christmas
Community Service
Atlanta District No. 3 East embraced Ms. Sheryl Weems 'Willis and her seven grandchildren for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Ms. Willis' daughter passed after a
battle with cervical cancer last March leaving seven adorable children. In June, Ms. Willis' husband passed. When Sister Rena McElrath, PM (No. 102) learned of this family's
experience, she made the District aware and we immediately responded. Realizing that
the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, are "family holidays", we ensured
that we assisted this family with having a "Happy Thanksgiving" and a "Merry Christmas".

district. Sister Worthy enlisted the assistance of Star of Georgia Foundation, which made
a contribution of $1,200.00 for clothing and other items from the family's "wish list". We
met at the Tracey Wyatt Recreation Center in College Park on December 23, 2015 to fellowship with the family and present the gifts.
Ms. Weems and her grandchildren were delighted that we embraced their family to make

2015 Grades 6th-7th Essay To Action Contest
Columbus 4th Masonic District is striving to increase the writing capabilities of the youth in our area. In
an attempt to do this, the Brothers here are trying to do their part by initiating “The Essay to Action”
writing contest with our Partner in Education, Fort Middle School. The 2015 Essay to Action contest
winners were announced on
23 October 2015 at Fort
Middle School in Columbus,
Georgia, they were given 4
weeks to present their essay.
The entire 6th and 7th grade
participated in the contest.
The Shriners as Mentors of
Al Faruk Temple #145 assisted with the sponsoring of
this contest. The following
were the topics for the 6th
graders,” What inspires you
and why?” and 7th graders
“What do you think influences violence and why?”
We wanted the sixth graders
to look for positive inspiration, something they can
always revert back to during difficult situations in the future. We wanted seventh graders to focus on
the negativity of violence and how it affects them. There was a 1st-3rd place for each grade making a total of six
winners.
They all received gift

Gate City Lodge #42 - Feed the Homeless
Charity is an act that can be described in almost any human tongue… foreign or domestic.
To be able to help your fellow man is something that every fellow, Mason or not, should try
to do within his lifetime. Though not materialistic, the joy one gets from helping someone
better themselves can rival the grandest of riches this world has to offer.
By definition, charity is to voluntarily give help or assistance to those in need. Nowadays, society loosely defines charity by digging in the pockets and tossing a few coins in
the direction of the downtrodden that sleep in the streets. What some do not see or even
want to perceive is that to
stay in some
homeless shelters, you have
to pay a minimum of seven
dollars. Seven
dollars to some
of us is a meal
that gets us
through the
next three
hours but to
some, it is a
means of security. Those few
dollars can be the difference between having a roof over your head and defending yourself
from the elements.
We at Gate City Lodge #42 have heard the call of its community and have put into plan our
Feed the Homeless Project. On Saturday, November 7th, 2015, under
the supervision of SW Tori
Richardson, Brothers new
and old gathered to prepare hygiene kits and
meal bags for the homeless near the Lodge. With
the help of donations both
from Brothers and from
friends and family, we
were blessed to create well
over one hundred meal
bags and hygiene kits.

Gate City Lodge #42 - Feed the Homeless—cont...
This massive blessing was then packed into cars and caravanned to the heart of Midtown Atlanta. Near the homeless shelter, we stationed ourselves in the parking lot across from the shelter
near Pine Street. Once we turned into the lot, the people that were arising from their slumber began
to make their way to our table and formed a line that stretched well into the street. Considering the
large crowd, all was peaceful as we greeted everyone and proceeded to hand out the packages of relief.
Now some might think, what can a sandwich and some toiletries do to make a situation bet-
ter? The fact that someone does not have to scrounge through the waste that we throw away just to
find nourishment is a blessing within itself. And the toiletries… how can one interact with someone
without being somewhat decent appearing? With this being said, one should find appreciation in the
fact that they are able to maintain the basics of living and consider everything else a mere luxury.
Back to the word charity… the unwritten definition should be inscribed within every act and
deed we do not only as Masons, but as living examples in our communities:
The selflessness of one’s heart
Pouring into outstretched hands
Of strangers near and far
Not accepting accolades or trophies
That will tarnish in shelves
Rather a simple gesture of thanks
As a gift of blessing
Is freely given
To those who have not
But need a lot

Subject: Foundation Lodge VA Visitation
Recently, Foundation Lodge #592 and Foundation
OES Chapter #587 jointly visited the Eagles’ Nest
Community Living Center at the Veteran’s Affairs
campus in Decatur,
GA. for our annual Veteran’s appreciation visit.
Our very existence as Prince Hall Masons and
Eastern Stars began with the initiation of Prince
Hall into a Lodge supported by an Irish military
regiment. Foundation has been privileged to support this endeavor for the last 9 years and each visit
has left a lasting impression with the Veterans and
our organizations.
This year we were able to donate nearly 150 pounds
of VA requested items. The items ranged from various lotions, moisturizers, hair brushes and combs
to much needed clothing items such as gloves, socks, and hats.

The items were separated and packaged into blue bags that were loaded into four shopping
carts. Recreation therapy specialist, Ms. Chauncy Rozier, was extremely helpful in chaperoning us between the two living facility floors. Many Veterans do not have many visitors and
therefore, do not receive many “nicety” items. Ms. Rozier assured us that those who were in
dire need of these items would receive them. She expressed great appreciation on behalf of
all who received our gifts and expressions of gratitude for their service.
The Foundation PHAmily has taken great pride in supporting this great and noble cause. We
are and will remain…One Lodge….One Chapter….One PHAmily!

Foundation Lodge #592 a part of Who’s Who in Black
Atlanta!
Foundation Lodge #592 is represented in the Sixteen Edition of Who’s
Who in Black Atlanta with 3 brothers; DGM Corey Shackleford,Sr, WM
Milton Warden, and Bro. Steven Lee. This edition of Who's Who In
Black Atlanta is a continuation of a dream to celebrate and recognize the
accomplishments of not only African Americans, but of the large Atlanta
community, which appreciates and values all we do to make Atlanta a
great city. Who's Who Publishing Company, now celebrating twentythree years has made history throughout America with our publications
that document, recognize and celebrate African-American achievements.
Atlanta has a strong history of people working together, and supporting
each other for the betterment of the entire community. Our community,
like many others, endured the impact of a downturned economy and
many of the other social ills that people face, but we continue to come
together each day to improve the quality of life in Atlanta, Georgia. This
edition is a celebration of the successes and opportunities of each person included in it. We celebrate you and your story!
As we commemorate the many historic events
that have occurred in America for AfricanAmerican from the board rooms to the White
House with the reelection of President Barack
Obama on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, I know
that our ancestors who helped build America are
very proud of how far their sons and daughters
have come. I know they would also say to us that
the work is not done and that we still have a long
way to go to ensure true equality for all of God's
people.

Foundation Lodge #592 MLK Celebration
On January 18, 2016 at Turner Chapel AME Church , Dr Martin Luther King’s Legacy was celebrated. Our Lodge performed usher duties and pass out programs. We
were accompanied by the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Rho Zeta
Omega Chapter located in the Smyrna-Marietta.
Fred Blankenship was the MC for the event and did an awesome job. Many dignitaries, politicians and civic leaders spoke about their promise of keeping the dream
alive. The most inspiring message came from the Director of the NAACP Cobb
County Chapter , who addressed the conflicts challenging the Black community.
The program was full of young entertainers in the form of dancers, poets, singers
and lecturers. There was one young man who did Dr. King’s “Mountain Top”
speech and if you closed your eyes you would think that Dr. King was in the room.
Brother Baldwin spoke with him and was informed that it only took him one hour
to memorize it verbatim.
Overall the program was a success. I would like to thank Brother Little for keeping
us connected to the NAACP who hosted the event, Brothers, Reid, Baldwin, Lacy
and WM Warden for serving along with Profanes Robert Hall and Ricardo Oliver.
I’m proud of my Lodge for participating and this was a great opportunity to establish our brand, continue our community service and secure our position as pillars
in the community.

The venue looked stellar, as our guests and

PM Gary Sparks Named Douglasville's First African-American Police Chief
The city of Douglasville has a new police chief after City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Gary Sparks at
a special meeting Thursday
night.
Sparks, the former deputy
chief, is the city’s first African
-American chief. He has been
with Douglasville PD since
1987 when he was hired as a
patrol officer.
He replaces former chief
Chris Womack, who retired
at the end of August.
“I did not hesitate in deciding who I would recommend to the City Council to be the new Police
Chief/Marshall in the City of Douglasville,” Mayor Harvey Persons said in a statement. “I already knew Gary Sparks was well qualified, would be dedicated to taking this Police Department
to new heights, would be warmly received and positively accepted by the men and women who
form Douglasville’s law enforcement department.”
Persons’ recommendation was unanimously approved by the seven-member council.
Sparks had been the deputy chief for six years and was acting chief after Womack’s retirement.
He will lead a force of 95 officers and almost 30 other employees, the city said.
