THE SPEAKERS
Mr. Richard Jackman - He is a graduate of the University of Iowa School of
Journalism and a former correspondent with the Chicago Tribune and United Press.
For the past 25 years, he has been a consultant in human and public relations
for industry, government and education. The Director of Communications for the
Sun Company and former management consultant to General Electric, he has spoken
to audiences in all 50 states and a dozen foreign countries, many of them gatherings
of high school and elementary teachers. He blends motivation and good philosophy
with a great deal of humor about human behavior.
Ms,Debbie Meier - She is Principal of the New York City Public Schools' Central
Park East Elementary School and Central Park East Secondary School, where she
also teaches humanities and social studies. Central Park East Secondary is a
participating school in Brown University's Coalition for Essential Schools. Her
service to education has taken many forms including teacher, coordinator, director
and principal. Selected writings authored by her have covered a variety of
topics and have been included in a number of publications.
Dr. Bruce Baldwin - He is a practicing psychologist who heads Direction Dynamics,
a consulting firm specializing in promoting professional development and quality
of life. He earned his Ph.D. from Arizona State University in 1970 and has authored
more than 80 published articles in trade and professional journals. A frequent
consultant to newspapers publishing stories relating to human behavior, he has been
a featured speaker at a wide range of regional, national and international
meetings. He is a regular writer of "Management Director" for Piedmont Airlines
Pace Magazine.
Dr. Francis lanni - He received his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 1952.
A Professor at Teachers .College at Columbia University, he is the Director of the
Institute for Social Analysis. Prior to his position at Columbia, he was Associate
Commissioner for-Research in the U.S. Office of Educaiton and has been a member of
the faculty at Yale University and the University of Forence, Italy. He has served
on a number of commissions, both national and international, and most recently
served as a consultant to the Presidential Commission on Criminal Justice Standards
and Goals. He is an accomplished writer on topics in educaiton and the criminal
justice system.
Dr. Willis Hawley - Having received his Ph.D. from the University of California,
Berkeley in 1979, he is an accomplished writer and speaker on a variety of educational
issues. He has also been active in contributing to a number of governmental reports
on education and has provided testimony on topics of educational significance at
national conferences and institutes. He serves as an educational consultant and
currently has four research projects in progress.
