Greetings from the Mayor
General Information
Welcome to your
2015/2016 Parks and
Recreation guide!
Our Parks and Rec’ staff
have jam-packed this
guide full of activities and
programs to both entertain
and to keep us fit. From
‘Baby and Me Aquafit’,
to our ‘55+’ swim classes, there’s something
for everyone. Looking to try something new?
Never skated before? Try one of the many noexperience-needed learn-to-skate programs.
Our recreation centres, are your centres! Take
advantage of what they have to offer.
Orangeville also has many recreation areas
you can use for free. The Skateboard Park,
BMX Park, walking trails, two splash pads and
outdoor rinks in the winter are just a few. This
guide has information on these and many more.
We have 32 parks, four indoor rinks, three pools,
soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts so much to offer!
519-940-9092 / www.orangeville.ca
New this year is our Rotary Club Splash Pad
at Fendley Park. Looking towards the future,
construction of our Lions Sport Park’s two multiuse soccer pitches is also set to begin. Another
first for Orangeville, there will be ‘adult’ outside
fitness equipment there and at our Kay Cee
Gardens Park.
Planning a party or family get together? Use one
of our many rooms at Tony Rose or Alder. You
can even book a room as a package for birthday
swim or skate parties.
This guide is also available online and can
be downloaded to your phone. Program signup can be done online to save you time. Take
advantage of all we offer. If you don’t see what
you want, let us know!
My goal as mayor is to work to provide you
with the best possible experience using the
Town’s parks, programs and facilities. If we
don’t measure up, I want to know. Contact me
anytime.
I hope you enjoy this guide, and all your town
has to offer!
Mayor Jeremy D Williams

As part of the celebration of the birth of a child, friends and family may wish
to donate funds to the Baby Tree Program. The funds are administered by
the Town of Orangeville to create a “forest” each year and to honour the
children born in Orangeville during the year. The trees are planted in
public spaces. Minimum donations of $10 are required. As the baby and
the trees grow, the baby has a forever connection to Orangeville. A plaque
is erected listing all of the babies who are recognized as part of the program.

Swimming Pools
Admission Standards for Public Swims
Children under 9 years of age must be directly
supervised in the water and within arm’s reach
of a guardian 16 years of age or older. Maximum
three children under 9 years of age per guardian.
Participants aged 9 and up may be required to
participate in a facility swim test to determine their
swimming level. A colour-coded wristband will be
issued upon completion indicating where they may
swim. Those who pass the facility swim test may
swim in the deep end. Those who do not pass the
facility swim test must remain in the shallow end.
Facility Swim Test
Changerooms
Children under 7 years of age may use any
changeroom accompanied by an adult 16
years of age or older. Children 7 years of age
and over must use the appropriate gender
changeroom. Alder Street Recreation Centre
has a family changeroom, which may be used by
either gender. If using one of the cubicles in the
changerooms, please remove belongings and
place into the lockers provided. For cleanliness
and safety reasons, no strollers, street clothing,
shoes or boots are allowed in the shower area or
on the pool deck.
Family Swims/Public Swims
Family swims are held in the leisure pool only. Pool
toys and personal flotation aids are allowed in the
shallow end. Please check with our lifeguards for
approval. During Public Swims, two lanes may be
available in the lap pool for Shared Lane Swims.
Lane swims are available to those 13 years of age
or older. Lane swims are divided into slow, medium
and fast lanes. Note that a shared lane swim has
one to two lanes available while other programs
are operating. Lane lines will be removed
five minutes before the end of lane swims.
Accessibility
The Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre has a
chairlift available for getting in and out of the
water. When you arrive at the facility, contact
a staff member for assistance with the proper
entrance and equipment. Gradual steps into
the water are also available. The Alder Street
Recreation Centre pools are fully accessible.
Medical Conditions
Please inform the Lifeguards if you have a
medical condition. In the interest of public health
and safety the Lifesaving Society requires that
“individuals with a serious medical condition be
directly supervised by an adult who is familiar
with the condition and treatment.” If your
child is not feeling well, consider the health of
others and do not participate in the program.
Personal Property
Participants are responsible for their personal
belongings while participating in programs.
Parks and Recreation assumes no responsibility
for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available
at both facilities. You must provide your
own lock and remove it when you leave.
Video/Photography
Photographic/video equipment (including
Personal Digital Assistants and Cellular Phones)
are not allowed in changerooms, washrooms
or in program spaces. Taking photos or
videos of participants during programs is not
permitted. Participants will be asked for written
permission to have photographs taken by the
media or Town staff for promotional purposes.
What Should My Baby Wear In The Pool?
Babies should wear baby swim diapers or plastic
pants under a bathing suit. Swim diapers are
available to purchase for $2 at the Customer
Service Desk.
Lesson Notes
To observe your child’s progress, a viewing
gallery is located above the pool. Please prepare
your child for a male or female instructor. Staff
cannot accommodate preference of instructor.
519-940-9092 Ext. 4110 / www.orangeville.ca
To successfully pass the facility swim test,
participants must: swim 25 metres with the ability
to put their face in the water; take a least one (1)
breath without putting their feet on the bottom of
the pool and tread water for one (1) minute. The
swim admission standard applies to all swims.
Aquatics staff may ask for a demonstration of
swimming ability if they feel there is a question of
a participant’s safety.
