PROV EN
A PIONEER OF 28 YEARS
In 1986, the boat and motor division of Finland’s largest
cen t r al w holesaler ask ed A imo Mus t onen t o es t ablish a
boat factory for designing and manufacturing a proprietary
boat range f or the company. T he central w holesaler had
it s pr opriet ar y brand f or year s, and t he range available
at t he time mainly consist ed of pr oduc t s f r om dif f er ent
boat manufacturers, marketed under the wholesaler’s own
brand. The new range was to be designed and manufactured
t o be c omp e t it i v el y pr ic ed ev en t hough t he dis t r ibu tion
chain was one link longer than that of competit ors.
T he development of A M T-Veneet O y ’s pr oduction facilit y
w as lau n c h ed im m edia t el y, including a glob al sur v ey o n
small boa t manu f ac t ur ing. T he ac t ual pr oduc tion began
on 4 November 1987. St af f at the pr oduction f acilit y had
been trained in A M T ’s new and ef f ective serial pr oduction
me t ho ds, and w it hin a f e w mon t hs, pr o duc tion v olumes
s u r p a s s e d t h o s e o f c o m p e t i t o r s t h a t u s e d t r a di t i o n a l
methods.
In addition to manufacturing, AM T ’s operations included
structural design of boats, selection and pr ocur ement of
m a t er ials a n d a c c ess o r ies as w ell es t a blish m e n t o f a n

Boats manufactured by AMT very quickly became
a s t a p l e o f q u a li t y i n t h e i r si z e c la s s e s w h i c h o t h e r s
aspir ed t o achieve and wer e benchmar ked against. A M T
c o n t in u e d as t h e c o n t r a c t m a n u f a c t u r er o f t h e c en t r al
w h o l e s a l e r u n t il 2 0 0 5 w h e n i t d e c i d e d t o dis c o n t i n u e
t he c ollabor a tion. During t ha t time, mor e t han 3 0 boa t
models were designed, and more than 25,000 boats were
manufactur ed at the company ’s t wo pr oduction facilities.
In the latter half of 2005, AMT launched the development
of it s pr opriet ar y boat range. S wit ching f r om cont rac t
manufacturing to proprietary products offered the company
bet ter oppor tunities to apply and gain benefits f rom its
expertise. Many features enhancing safety and comfort that
had not been feasible earlier due to cost reasons could be
implemented in the company’s own models. The first five
models were introduced at the 2006 Helsinki International
Boat Show. During the past ten years, the range has grown
to a total of 13 boats in size classes 4.5 to 6.9 metres.

SEA
TRAILBLAZER AND TEST WINNER
A M T designs, develops and manuf ac t ur es it s ow n
p r o d u c t s. T h e c o m p a n y h as als o d e v elo p e d sp e cial 3 D
design sof t ware that directly controls the machining units
and enables simultaneous manufacturing of prototypes and
moulds of all par ts of a boat. T his method of fers excellent
measur ement accuracy, and it has t aken the use of space
and, most of all, saf et y in the design of the A M T range t o
a w hole new level.
T h e en d r esul t is A M T b o a t s t ha t m ee t t h e n eeds o f
the most demanding boat ers. Ever since they wer e f irst
introduced, A M T boats have been ex tremely successf ul in
product tests and comparisons conducted by both Finnish
and international boating magazines.

T h e A M T b o a t s a r e as F in nish as t h e y c o m e, d esig n e d
and manufactured by Finnish professionals and distributed
by domestic A M T dealers. A M T was the first boat brand
t o r e c ei v e t h e ' k e y f la g ' a w a r d b y t h e A s s o c ia t i o n f o r
Finnish Work in r ecognition of the domestic origin of the
products. The AMT boats are manufactured in t wo modern
f a c t o r ies in K o n t iola h t i in t h e N o r t h er n K a r elia r egio n,
with capacit y to build up t o 1600 boats per year. A M T is
also a signif ic an t ex p o r t er, selling b o a t s abr o ad in, f o r
exa mple, S w e de n, N o r w a y, Russia, G er m a n y, D en m a r k ,
Estonia and UK.

UNSINKABLE CONSTRUCTION

ability to provide the boat high enough buoyancy even af ter
touching ground to enable the outboard engine to function.

even if the boat’s hull was so badly damaged that the entire
int ermediat e floor filled with wat er.
R A I N WAT E R D R A I N A G E
All A M T boats feature an automatic rain water drainage
system. In our experience, the single most important reason
f or a boat t o sink is a f ailur e in the rain wat er drainage
system. We wanted to prevent this and developed a fully new
structure, made completely of fibreglass. The entire rain
water drainage piping is laminated into the boat’s longitudinal
stringers and contains no hoses, hose clamps or separate
lead-thr oughs that could pot entially f ail. In addition, the
inner diameter of the drainage piping is standard throughout
its length, preventing “bottlenecks” that might accumulate
debris and block the drainage system.
