Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 1 MOTOROLA v3i DISASSEMBLY GUIDE This guide will help you replace housing parts and get to the inner parts of your phone. I am in no way responsible for any damage occurred to your phone. If you follow what I say to do in this guide you should be ok. But you need a lot of time and patience when disassembling your phone. Tools Needed: Screwdrivers ~ T3,T5,T6 Precision Tweezers Mobile Phone Opening Tool Brand new Glasses Cloth Double Sided Tape Screw Sizes: LCD Housing Screws ~ T5 x 4 Rear Screws ~ T6 x 2 Lower Inner Housing Screws ~ T5 x 4 Rear Slip Screw ~ T3 x 1 BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL OF THE TOOLS NEEDED. You can buy these from eBay or any other mobile phone website. Take your time and don’t rush! Move away any drinks or liquid, and have good light. Flick the rubber screw covers off with a small pin; make sure you don’t loose these! 3. Now unscrew all four T5 Screws. Use your nail to lift up the top corner of the front facia (by the camera) This should lift up easily. 5. Now use the mobile phone opening tool to slide down the edges of the facia. Then lift up the bottom part if it doesn’t come away freely. 6. Next remove the chrome buttons. Lift the bottom silver locking washers gently with tweezers. These are at the bottom of the screen. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 6 10.Lift up the speaker at attached to the ribbon at the bottom of the inner screen housing, gently ease them up. 11.Lift off the rubber camera surround with tweezers; just slide the tweezers between the rubber and the housing. DO NOT CUT THE RIBBONS! You can use a pin to get behind the stuck down ribbon if necessary. 13.Once all the buttons are unstuck and free from being stuck down. Place the tweezers in the bottom of the right of the screen and slowly start hinging it out. Keep lifting until it comes free. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 8 14.Lift the screen unit out of the inner screen housing. 15.Remove the grey rubber camera housing and the metal protector to the right of it. Place this into the new housing. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 9 16.Flip the phone over and remove the T3 screw that holds in the left flip. 17.Flip the phone open and the right small chrome flipper should pop out. If this doesn’t place the tweezers in between the thin bar on the chrome flipper and ease it out. Now remove the small metal part and place this into your new flipper part with tweezers. This is quite tricky. 18.Open the flip up on the phone and turn it over. Push the left larger flipper out with a screwdriver. MIND THE RIBBON. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 10 19.Turn the phone over so the other flipper is facing you and place a screwdriver on the small brass part, and push hard, push it in as far as you can so that the small brass part pops out of the keypad hinge. You can then lift it out. WATCH THE RIBBON ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE, DON’T SEVERE IT! Unhook the ribbon as soon as you can from the left hinge. 20.From the outside push out the flicker using a screwdriver. Then pull it out from the other side. Make sure you remove the flipper and its black housing. Put this into the new housing. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 11 21.Dig out the small magnet to the right of the screen (YOU NEED THIS PART ITS WHAT CHANGES THE SCREEN DISPLAY WHEN YOU FLIP THE PHONE OPEN). 22.Remove the blue earpiece mesh and place it into the new housing (make sure the stickiness is removed with the mesh). 23.Turn the screen housing over and remove the small silver M emblem and stick it into place on the new housing. Get the main body of the phone and turn it over, now unscrew the two T6 screws. 25.The aerial cover should separate slightly when lifted. Open it until you can see the ribbon. 26.Pull the ribbon away from the board gently with tweezers. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 13 27.Push the bottom aerial housing away from the top this should unclip the aerial cover from the lower mic housing. If not use the mobile phone opening tool around the edge and it will lift up. Your phone should now look like this. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 14 28.You now need to unscrew all four T5 screws that hold the lower mic housing on. 29.Layout the screws and the metal antenna part as they were, remove the lower housing and mic cover. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 15 30.Remove the rubber clip coverings on the aerial connector. 31.Place tweezers under the right hand side of the plastic aerial cover, CAREFULLY SO YOU DON’T SCRATCH THE PCB! Lift it up until it clicks and unclips itself. The rest should follow easily. Your lower housing assembly should now look like this. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 17 33.Remove the speaker from the housing with tweezers. 34.Lift up the large rubber surround with tweezers. 35.Lift up the mesh below and place it into the new housing, then place the rubber on top of it, and then put the speaker back in place. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 18 36.Remove the gold screw contacts (at the top of the lower housing) with tweezers, and place them into the new housing. 37.Now push the sim card holder so that the very bottom part unclips to the opposite side. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 19 38.Now pull the left hand side of the sim card holder down at an angle so it unclips. 39.Now unfree the sim card holder from the left hand side, it should simply slide out once unclipped. 40.Place the sim card holder into the new housing, the bottom goes in first, you might have to bend it slightly to get it in, just bend it back to flat once finished. Place the small rubber bung in the new housing. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 20 Your lower housing should now look like this. 41.Get the PCB board and place it into the housing, push down gently so that it slips in place. 42.Now get the plastic aerial covering and the aerial. Put one side in and under the edge of the housing. Then bend out the opposite side of the housing and let it clip in. Push down to make sure it’s all slipped into place. Then replace the rubber parts. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 21 43.Lift up the metal tabs at the bottom of the rear keypad with tweezers. 44.Lift the white IMEI data sheet up from the bottom right hand corner with tweezers (CAREFULLY AS NOT TO RIP IT). Then pull the rest with your fingers. Make sure they are all vertical. Then push them one by one until the keypad becomes free. Then pull from the other side. Your phone should now look like this. Then use the mobile phone opening tool to hinge it up all over. Make sure all the tabs are unstuck. And pull them through the keypad housing. 47.Push the tabs through into the new keypad housing and stick down the keypad. Place it on the new mic cover. 49.Assemble the mic cover and the lower front housing. The mic cover slides into it. 50. Go back to the keypad housing and get the metal antenna part with its screws. Screw the two opposite screws first. Make sure the housing is all aligned correctly. Then screw in the middle screws. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 25 51.Now put the new keypad into the keypad housing, align the metal tabs and push them through the slots on the keypad housing. Turn the phone over and while pushing down as hard as you can bend down the metal tabs. 52.Replace the IMEI datasheet, if it is no longer sticky, use some double sided tape and stick it to the keypad housing. 53.Get the screen housing. Place the ribbon through the top flip housing. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 26 54.Push the flipper in as far as you can MIND NOT TO SCRATCH THE NEW KEYPAD HOUSING. Slide it back into the new keypad housing. 55.Now to remove the front LCD glass, get the screen you removed and place your nail or the mobile phone opening tool under one edge and lift up slowly. There will be quite a lot of resistance but keep lifting slowly until it comes free. DON’T PUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE MAIN LARGE LCD, HOLD BY THE SIDES! Stick the earpiece back down, press down firmly with your finger (if the speaker is not sticky anymore use some double sided tape). 57.Now get the new large flipper cover, and slide it into the left hand side. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CATCH THE RIBBON, YOU MUST GET NOT CATCH ANY OF THE LAYERS OF RIBBON. THE CUT OUT IN THE HINGE MUST GO BETWEEN THE METAL CROSS PIECE AND BEHIND THE RIBBON YOU CAN SEE AT THE BOTTOM. 58.Put the hinge back in the opposite side and replace the T3 screw that holds it in place. Make sure this is properly connected. 60.Now push the aerial housing down onto the keypad housing. Until it clicks into place. Then press down firmly all over. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 29 61.Now screw back into place the two T6 screws at the back. 62.You can now put the battery in and turn on your phone to make sure it works. 63.Now get the new facia and take the mesh from your old facia and transfer it into the new one. Use tweezers to lift the mesh up then use your fingers. Compiled Exclusively for MotoModders.net Ajay16 Motorola v3i Disassembly Guide v1.0 Page: 30 64.Close the phone and replace the silver locking washers at the bottom. 65.Put the side buttons into the housing. 66.Get the new facia and push the bottom in first and then forward. Then press around the edges until the clips have all clicked into place. Do this to the outer screen as well. 68.Make sure you do this when your phone is turned off or the screen is black. The dust shows up better. Spend as long as you can while doing this until its perfect. 69.Stick both screens down. (If you are using your old screen covers clean them as well to get rid of dirt and dust). The outer screen cover is easy to install as the metal facia lines it up perfectly. Press down gently on the outer screen with the glass cloth to make sure it has stuck properly. (CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE GLASS). 70.Put your sim card, then your TF card, then your battery back into your phone. 71.Power on your phone and voila!
