• What: Extreme weather storm,
from the west. High water level
and waves (Cato - storm flood).
 «Blows stronger than the limit of
hurricane» (75 knots)
 «One of 20 storms in a 1000 years»
• When: Night to 24th and through
26th of desember 2011.
• Where: hit the north-western
coast of Norway (Sogn og
Fjordane, Møre og Romsdal and
Trøndelag)

Damage – electricity /ICT infrastructure
• Main problem: strong wind made trees fall on the (more than 300 000km long) power
distribution network (and lightening)
• Took the electricity from every forth Norwegian
- 1.3 mill people lost power
- Most got the power back within 24 hours.
-10 000 without power for 48 hours (Fjærland)
- Estimated cost repair 450 mill NOK
• Left 31.500 households without phone (fasttelefon)
• Mobile coverage was cut several places
-728 mobile basestations fell out
- 2/3rds of these due to power loss
- 445 in Sogn og Fjordane/Møre og Romsdal
- PT: 382 Telenor, Telia Sonera (Netcom) 346
