Words from Mons
Mons Aase - CEO DOF ASA
2008 and 2009 were difficult years for the company due to
weakened markets for offshore service vessels combined with
the challenges faced on the financial markets.
Looking back now, I feel that 2010 has been a much more
positive year for DOF. We have won a record-high number of
long-term contracts. Our total order reserve, including options,
now exceeds NOK 34 billion.
With such a substantial order reserve, we gain added strength
with which to face market fluctuations in the years to come.
To date in 2010, we have received delivery of 8 newbuildings,
6 of which have been secured good long-term contracts upon
delivery from the yard. In only a few years, we have successfully
developed into Norway’s largest owner of offshore service
vessels.
Within the segment for subsea services, we now control the
largest and most modern fleet in the world. We expect to see
an increase in demand from this segment in the future. DOF
Subsea now has an excellent position from which to take part
in this projected growth in demand.
In Brazil, we are recognised as one of the largest, if not the
largest, operators of offshore service vessels. Norskan and DOF
Subsea Brazil together have around 1,000 employees. The
positive growth in Brazil will continue in 2011 with delivery
of several newbuildings and the start-up of new contracts for
ships with international flags. This will be a challenging time
for the organisation in Brazil. Personnel are a scarce commodity
and we aim to develop and strengthen our focus on training
and exchange of experience.
We project a weak supply market in the North Sea in the
first half of 2011. We do expect however to see a gradual
improvement in market balance, resulting from a number of
factors including an increase in demand from abroad.
The subsea market in 2010 has been more positive than
anticipated. We expect this market to be somewhat satisfactory
in 2011 but recognise that we may have to wait until 2012
before we can experience a strong increase in demand.
safety and the environment, according to our customers.
This impressive track record we have developed is invaluable
when competing for new contracts. And this would not have
been possible without the expertise and hard work of our
seafarers.
We now control a fleet of 68 vessels (including newbuildings),
of which a large share of the newbuildings comprises major
construction support vessels and large AHTS vessels. The
average age of the fleet is around 6 years. I can confidently
claim that DOF’s fleet is one of the most forward-looking
on the market. We believe there is growth to be found in
deep-sea segments, an area which requires larger and
more advanced vessels. This is reflected in our fleet and our
remaining newbuilding programme.
We have developed a group of companies with offices in all
parts of the world, each of which is staffed by expert personnel.
We are all currently facing significant challenges for the future.
Our employees are our most important resource. Our staff of
skilled employees, both at sea and on land, helps DOF continue
to win important contracts. With the market trends evident
in 2010 and projected for 2011, our new offices abroad are
more important than ever before.
I believe that we will continue in 2011 in the same trend as
2010. I do feel that 2010 can be regarded as a year when we
could finally begin to see the signs of a gradual recovery. I am
sure that 2011 will present us with a number of challenges,
but that the year will have a positive undertone. Looking back
over 2010, I can confirm that we are stronger now than at
the start of the year. The key to our success in 2011 remains
unchanged – our employees. I believe that our concerted
efforts will provide us with an even stronger standing by the
end of 2011.
We have absolutely the best people working for us, onboard
all our ships and in all our offices throughout the world. I
would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to all our
employees for their wonderful efforts in 2010 and wish you
and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year.

3
Words from Anders
Anders A. Waage - CEO DOF MANAGEMENT AS
In 2009, we wrote in the DOF NYTT
newsletter that we did not expect
to see the market improve in 2010
but anticipated a decline. Luckily, we
could ascertain early in 2010 that our
expectations were wrong. The market
saw a gradual improvement during
the spring, despite the delivery of a
number of newbuildings. Our Platform
Supply Vessels (PSV) in particular have
achieved acceptable rates on the spot
market, while the anchor handling
segment (AHTS) recorded somewhat
lower earnings. The main reason for
this improvement emerging earlier than
expected was the market in Brazil which
required numerous vessels to cover the
ever-increasing demand for tonnage
in the area, and where DOF has also
been awarded a number of excellent
contracts.
2010
DOF Group has always maintained a
focus on long-term contracts and will
continue to do so in the future. On 1
March of this year, we celebrated a
25-year contract for Skandi Fjord with
Halliburton. We also signed an MOU
(understanding) with Total Austral for a
renewed 15-year contract in Argentina
(more precisely, the operating area
on the east coast of Tierra del Fuego
in South Argentina). We have also
confirmed several other long-term
contracts, including a 5-year contract
for Skandi Bergen as a coast guard
vessel in Australia and a number of longterm contracts in Brazil. These contracts
are a wonderful recognition of the
4
excellent work of our seafarers, sailing
on our vessels all over the world. DOF
Management AS has also been awarded
operating contracts for 2 construction
vessels (owned by Aker Group) which
are sister ships to Skandi Acergy/Skandi
Aker. Operating contracts have also
been signed for 3 seismic vessels with
CCG Veritas (these vessels were already
controlled by DOF M). These contracts
provide confirmation of the expertise
of our on shore operating staff in DOF
Management AS.
Unfortunately, we have seen some
increase in the number of personal
injuries and injury frequencies this year in
the fleet. An analysis of personal injuries
in 2010 shows that the main factors/root
causes are breach of procedures, failure
to control routine tasks and taking
short cuts. These are factors that we
cannot accept and we need, together,
to implement actions to improve on
this. As we have underlined before: No
work is so important that it cannot wait
until we have completed proper risk
assessments, tool box talks etc.
Unscheduled vessel downtime saw
an increase in the first quarter 2010
compared to 2009. However, there has
been a significant improvement every
quarter thereafter and the trends are
pointing in the right direction, which
again goes to show that good planning,
prevention via maintenance and good
cooperation between the vessels and
the land organisation are working well.
We are also very pleased to see how our
newbuildings have been handed over to
the Operations Department with very
few problems, again displaying the close
and successful cooperation between
newbuildings and operations prior to
completion of the vessels.
In 2010, DOF Management PTE
Singapore will be governed by the
DOF Management AS Document of
Compliance (DOC) which implies a much
closer cooperation between Europe and
the Far East.
The increasing level of internationalisation
and movement of vessels for new
contracts in Africa, Brazil and the
East, where we meet clearly defined
requirements for “local content”
(local crew) and requirements on land
employees, represent a major challenge
for our officers/crew as they have
to adapt to new contracts and new
governmental requirements in different
parts of the world. To date, our Captains
and crews have taken all this on board
successfully and we are confident that
they will continue to display the same
positive attitude in this area.
In conclusion, I would like to thank all
our employees, both on sea and land,
for their efforts in the year about to
pass, and wish you all and your families
a very Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year.

well intervention vessel and is capable of
performing well intervention operations
at water depths up to 3,000 metres.
There were further celebrations when
Skandi Aker was named “Ship of the
Year” and the shipowners/shipyard were
presented with the trophy by Norwegian
State Secretary, Rikke Lind, at the
Hamburg fair in September.
Skandi Vega
After delivery Skandi Vega immediately
started on a charter for Statoil and, as
agreed in her speach, her godmother was
waiting with a gift when she sailed into
harbour after her first assignment.

DOF Projects & Newbuildings in 2010
This year has been particularly challenging and exciting for the
DOF newbuiling group, due to “all time high” of newbuildings
scheduled for delivery. A total of 10 deliveries were scheduled
for delivery in 2010, actual number however tend to be 8, as
two vessels are confirmed delayed until next year. The list of
newbuildings delivered in 2010 include “state of art” offshore
service vessels of various categories. A majority of these vessels
are highly advanced, and incorporate the latest available
technology, with a high focus on functionality, flexibility and
environmental friendly solutions. The newbuildings are a
result of a good and strong cooperation between DOF, the
shipyard (STX) and our clients, and a joint competence that
has developed over many years. It was accordingly much
appreciated (and in my opinion well deserved….) when Skandi
Aker was awarded “Ship of the Year 2010” by Skipsrevyen,
during SMM in Hamburg in September.
The following newbuildings have been delivered p.t. in 2010
Skandi Ipanema, medium size anchor handling vessel, planned
to be delivered in November 2010, on charter to OGX Brasil.
Skandi Hercules, sister vessel of Skolten, also combined AH/
OSCV fitted with 140 ton offshore crane and ROV system,
built at Aukra shipyard, to be delivered in December 2011.
In addition several conversion projects have been initiated
in 2010, such as Geograph -mobilized and outfitted for
Petrobras in Brazil, Geowave Master – to be installed with new
propulsion arrangement, and Skandi Neptune – to be fitted
with new 250 ton offshore crane.
We should be proud of our vessel deliveries and achievements
in 2010, which would not have been possible without our
competent project-/site teams and offshore personnel in
Norway, Brazil and Far East. The project organization in DOF
group has grown in parallel with the increased newbuilding
activity, and now include personnel in several regions. A main
focus in 2010 has been to standardize routines and strengthen
cooperation between the regions. There is still potential for
improvement in this respect, and this work accordingly will
continue with high focus next year.
Another focus area is to further improve the handling of
experience transfer. First of all it is important that we get
reports from all of you onboard the vessel, however please
ensure to use the incident reporting system. This to make sure
the report is properly registered and reviewed. It is important
to have your feedback on how the newbuildings perform in
operations.
I would like to thank all of you that have contributed in
the follow up of our many projects ongoing in 2010, both
onshore and offshore. Your efforts and valuable input is much
appreciated.
Best wishes for the Christmas and New Year!
Best regards
Arnstein Kløvrud

2010
Ship of the year
Skandi Aker was the 8th of September declared Ship of the
Year 2010 by the Norwegian State Secretary Rikke Lind at
the SMM 2010 trade show in Hamburg. Oddvar Stangeland,
Nils Andrè Hille og Ole Kristoffer Nordbø was at the SMM to
receive the award.
Skandi Aker is built according to the STX Europe OSCV 06 L
design. The vessel is capable of performing well intervention
operations at water depths up to 3,000 meters, while other
existing well-intervention vessels are limited to about 800
meters depth.
Skandi Aker is the first intervention vessel to classify according
to DNV.s WELL-Notation, meaning the vessel is able to take
hydrocarbons up on deck. As a result, the vessel can perform
well-testing and clean-up, flaring off hydrocarbons through a
flare at the stern. The vessel can also perform through-tube
rotary drilling with coil and downhole motor, and managedpressure drilling.
Skandi Aker is the largest monohull subsea well intervention
vessel built so far with large deck space, heavy capacity subsea
cranes, excellent sea-keeping performance, all interventions
on DP and high transit speed. The vessel is equipped with a
Module Handling System and a 400 tons AHC crane.
It is thus evident that when it comes to technical features this
ship is in the forefront in this field today. Instead of labeling
her narrowly as well-intervention vessel, well cleaning vessel,
vessel for coil-tubing or as a drilling unit, the shipyard has
introduced the collective term “Subsea Service Vessel”.
The vessel has a diesel electric propulsion system, and her
dimensions are impressive: 156.9m l.o.a., 27m breadth and
depth moulded of 12m. The deck measured about 2,100 m2
prior to installation of the rucker deck and derrick.
Skandi Aker is able to perform deepwater well intervention
services that oil companies previously needed drilling rigs
to conduct. More importantly she will do it quicker and at
a fraction of the cost. This free up scarce and expensive rig
time, which allows the rigs to perform more drilling operations
while Skandi Aker carry out the intervention work.
The intervention solution is based on so called open-water
riser, a thin high pressure riser which operates without the
marine riser and BOP. The open water riser is connected to
a lower riser package consisting of a well control package
and an emergency disconnect package. This is combined
with a smaller BOP located directly underneath the vessel.
The complete package is much lighter and can be installed
considerably faster than the equipment that usually is used for
this type of operations.
The purpose of the riser is to get access to the well with
different kind of tools, in order to carry out operations that
can increase the flow of oil and gas. That could for instance
be penetrating the walls of the well with new holes towards
the reservoir (shooting), plug water leaks or remove scale from
the walls of the well.
One reason why the oil majors give cost effective well
intervention high priority is the increasing number of subsea
wells in production, particularly in deep and ultradeep waters.
According to the market intelligence company Quest Offshore
Resources Inc. 95% of the future subsea wells will be found
on waterdephts deeper that 500 meters. A second reason
is the additional oil and gas resources that can be extracted
from the reservoirs. Currently the exploiting ratio from subsea
wells is 30 to 40% lower that from equivalent platform wells.
Of approx. 5,000 already installed subsea wells are 3,330 still
in production. But with an average life cycle of only seven
years the inevitable drop in production will create a need for
cost effective intervention solutions in order to increase the
exploitation degree.
Skandi Aker is currently performing subsea construction and
installation work offshore West Africa.

It’s time for a short summary after another
challenging year.
finger injuries, representing 65% of the
recordable cases.
During September and October, DNV carried
out a recertification of the Document of
Compliance for various flag states, combined
with a renewal of our ISO 9001- and
ISO 14001 certificates. Several areas for
improvement were identified and QHSE Dept.
and the various Dept. Heads are currently
working on improving our procedures due to
findings during the recertification process.
The environmental performance in 2010 has
improved compared to previous years, with
no significant spills. An action/KPI in the
QHSE Plan has been established to monitor
the fuel consumption for the fleet and to
reduce the consumption by 5%. This KPI will
not be reached for the fleet in total, mainly
due to several long distance voyages during
the year. However, during vessel visits it
has been evident that many of our Masters
are focusing on optimizing the engine set
up, and are challenging our clients during
preparations of the voyage plans.
The implementation of the DOF Group’s new
management system database (Docmap) was
finalized summer 2010. It has been a long
and demanding process, but we’ve received
good feedback on the new system from the
vessels. Early 2011 a new version of Docmap
will be implemented for the DOF Group,
which will further improve the system.

was impressed with the professionalism
of the crew; both in the preparation
phase, where the job were discussed step
by step & all relevant risk assessments
were reviewed and discussed by all the
participating personnel, and during the
operations.
Not to go too much into details of the
job itself but the crew onboard Vega
picked up 3 of the semi-submersible
drilling unit Polar Pioneer’s anchors and
delivered the anchors back to the rig. As
mentioned the full operation was carried
out in a professional manner from the
start of the job until the completion
and the Statoil representative on the
rig also thanked the crew via radio for
their efficient and safe performance of
the job.
For me it was interesting to see an
operation previously unfamiliar to me
and to meet and discuss various aspects
of the “DOF life” with the crew - and
although I had to sacrifice most of the
weekend it was a valuable sacrifice
and a very useful experience. To the
Master, Odd Magnus Stenevik, and his
crew: Thank you for your cooperation,
honesty and hospitality. It was highly
appreciated.
As Designated Person for a part of our
fleet I believe it’s vital to be familiar and
understand the operations - and being
in close contact with the personnel
onboard. As we all are aware of we have
busy days in the office and it is a fact
that we do not get to visit the vessels
often enough so I would like to take this
opportunity to encourage my onshore
colleagues to try something similar. I’m
sure you would find it worthwhile and
useful.
As we approach the end of 2010 I would
like to thank you all for a job well done
during the year. As a (former) seaman
I would like to send the best wishes
to those of you that have to be away
from your families during the Christmas
period. Your thoughts will be at home –
but stay safe.
At last; a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year to all!

2010
Since joining the onshore part of the
organization back in 2007 I’ve had the
intention of a yearly vessel visit with the
purpose to sail with the vessel for a few
days to see the vessel operations “live”.
This year I took the opportunity and
joined our new vessel “Skandi Vega” for
an anchor handling job on the Tampen
field in the North Sea.
I joined the vessel on the 6th of October
at Mongstad-base at a typical (weather
wise) day in western Norway – the rain
was pouring down and the weather
forecast indicated winds of gale force at
the Tampen field.
As it was three years since I last sailed I
must admit that the word seasick where
at the back of my mind but as anyone
that has seen the “Skandi Vega” (or
her sisters) would imagine; the weather
had no effect on the vessel and the fear
of any seasickness was proven to be
unnecessary. As the weather forecast
indicated we did have winds of gale
force during the voyage to the field but
that was unnoticed on the vessel.
During the anchor handling operations I

Biggest congratulation to Anders Arve
Do you belive it? Anders Arve Waage has a big day to celebrate the 20th of December. This
young DOF man is turning 60 years this year.
Anders has been in the DOF group since 1982 and started his carrier with DOF as captain
onboard our first new-build, Skandi Fjord. After several years offshore he started to work
as COO / operational manager in DOF Management. Anders has for many years secured
a lot of contracts for a growing fleet in the group. In 2007 Anders was appointed as CEO
in DOF Management were you can find him today. This man knows everything about our
vessels and our operations.
He travels all around the world, either to visit our offices, vessels, or clients. He also likes
travelling with Solfrid and now he has started skiing! you can find him at Myrkdalen in his
brand new cabin. Eventhough he is a busy man, he takes a lot of time to be a part of his
grandchildrens childhood.
Anders is a very good collegue and we wish him all the best and a good celebration.
Collegues in DOF
HR-Perspectives
Time has been running fast since I started as Human Resources
Manager the 1st of May this year. There has never been a
boring minute, and new challenges have appeared every day.
One of the most important tasks in Human Resources (HR) at
the moment is to develop the crewing department to cope
with the growth in the fleet. We have a lot of good people, but
we realize that both systems, procedures, job-descriptions and
work-flow needs to be developed and improved to serve our
seafarers and to ensure that our owners’ interests are taken
care of. I would like to thank the seafarers for your patience
and the involved employees onshore for your efforts; this work
will surely continue and be an ongoing task forward.
2010
It is very exciting to follow the growth in the fleet at close
range, but we also realize the challenge it will be to man the
vessels with experienced and qualified crew. The tremendous
growth, especially in Brazil, makes it important to ensure
proper training to new crew-members. Therefore training and
competence development is an increased focus area in DOF.
As you realize we depend on the experienced seafarers’ help
to be able to train the new-comers. Having the best sea-farers
in our fleet, we are sure that we will be able to continue to
develop new colleagues in order to maintain the service level
we deliver to our clients today.
14
I would also like to mention the importance of maintaining the
high focus on QHSE both on the vessels and in the offices. It
is important that you take caution and stay safe both at work
and at home. Firstly for your own well-being and to make sure
that you come home to your families in the same shape as
when you left. Secondly the vessels QHSE performance is of
vital importance when it comes to winning new contracts.
As 2008 and 2009 were quite challenging for DOF, we see a
stronger year in 2010. Large new contracts have been won
thanks to the extraordinary performance of our personnel
both at sea and on land. As the future looks very promising
also for the coming years, it is important to remember the
following:
It requires discipline to handle the hard times, but it requires
even more discipline to handle the good times. Therefore
our increased focus on cost control will remain in order to
strengthen the company, and the ability to compete for new

At last I would like to thank all our employees, both on sea

families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Crisis Manager
Expecting the unexpected. While some forces are beyond our
control, our response is not. Swift and effective communication
and our associated conduct can mean the difference between
a potential disaster and a minor incident.
DOF Subsea, along with the entire DOF Group, has adopted
Crisis Manager (CM) as its comprehensive solution for handling
crises and other emergencies. From contingency planning and
crisis alert mechanisms to execution and recovery, CM is the
single point of contact for all crisis management activity.
This global tool will allow the individual Emergency Teams in
each region to work locally, with other regions and even with
other DOF companies.
BMS and GLOBAL DnV AUDIT
2010
In 2009 it was decided by the board of directors to develop
a Business Management System, BMS, for DOF Subsea with
standard processes, tools and governing documents that
require minimal variation irrespective of location. In addition it
was decided that this system should be developed according
20
to international management standards (ISO 9001, 14001
and OHSAS 18001) and certified by DnV.
The audit was completed with a successful close-out meeting
on 18th November 2010, with over 50 employees attending
from USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, UK, Angola, Mexico,
Norway and Singapore.
Mons Aase, CEO, was pleased with the audit result and is
focusing on the important close out activities that will have
to be performed before we receive the global certificates.
SAFETY LEARNING
As part of our commitment to protect and maintain the Health
and Safety of our personnel and the environment we work
in, DOF Subsea has adopted a new, global HSE “E-learning”
tool.
“E-learning” delivers Health, Safety and Environmental
training directly to employees’ fingertips no matter where they
are located. By logging onto “INSIDE”, they can gain access
to a wide range of e-learning modules, which are currently
available in both English and Portuguese.
CODE OF CONDUCT
The DOF Group’s Business Code of Conduct was issued at
the end of April. This booklet was compiled from the various
policies in DOF Subsea, DOF Management and Norskan and
outlines the basic behavioral conduct and business ethics for
the Group. The booklet is available on both our intranet and
internet.
HR
Website
DOF Subsea refreshed its website and updated the global
brand image to communicate the capacity and size of the
organisation to a wider audience. The main objective of the
renovation was to ensure our website supports and reflects
the global integrated subsea business we are today. Among
the improvements, navigation and style have been simplified,
and our equipment showcased in an accessible way.
OCS
OCS was implemented globally in late 2009. OCS is an
integrated suite of software modules supporting core HR
processes like crew planning, competence management,
career planning, training administration and multinational
payroll. The web-based self-service applications provide users
throughout the organisation with access to efficient tools,
allowing them to play a more active role in HRM processes. Since the beginning of 2010 all employees have been using
the timekeeping module to register their working hours.
FINANCE
IT2 – New Treasury system
DOF Subsea AS has selected IT2 for treasury management
operations based in Bergen, Norway.
IT2 will be used across the global treasury operation to
support Cash & Liquidity Management, Cash Forecasting, FX
and Interest Hedge & Risk Management, Internal and External
Debt Management, Treasury Accounting and Guarantee
Management. The IT2 web portal IT2 NET will be deployed
to support internal and external FX and debt management,
cash forecasting and reporting. IT2 will interface with Nordea
Bank’s DnBNOR service for bank statements, Agresso for
accounting and AP/AR, Shipnet for AP/AR and SIX for market
data. IT2 will be used by both DOF Subsea AS and DOF ASA.
BUSINESS WORLWIDE
Atlantic
The new DOF Subsea Atlantic region (DSAT) is the fusion of the
UK, USA, Norway, Canada, Russia and West Africa businesses
into a single, unified region. Its first joint priority is to align its
goals, objectives and practices in support of the Group vision
of becoming “the preferred integrated subsea service provider
worldwide.”
Asia & Pacific
Acquisition of SWG Offshore
Steve Brown EVP, DOF Subsea Asia Pacific signed the formal
agreement to acquire SWG Offshore earlier this summer. The
transaction was completed on the 1st July 2010 and the two
businesses integrated.
RMHG Food Donation
DOF Subsea Football
In July, DOF Subsea USA hosted a food drive in support of
the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston. After receiving the
charity’s “Wish List”, employees brought in various canned
food items to donate to families staying at the Galveston
home.
The Ronald McDonald House of Galveston is a “home away
from home” for the families of children who are receiving
medical treatment at the University of Texas Medical Branch,
Shriners Hospital for Children and Transitional Learning Center.
The House is more than a place to stay. As an alternative to an
isolated hotel room, the families and children enjoy cheerful
surroundings and the support of other families, volunteers
and staff.
DOF Subsea plans to continue support of the RMHG throughout
the year with various planned fundraisers.
Last September, a group of friends and work associates,
including yours truly, decided to put together a football team
and enter ourselves into the highly competitive Houston
HFA Sunday League. This league consists of over ten smaller
divisions and includes some ninety plus teams.
The QFC Quasars as we named ourselves, (don’t ask) were
placed in Division Four, which is the bottom division and
where all new teams are placed. We did not mind, because
as a team we were a mixed group of ages, fitness, experience
and footballing ability. I myself am a 5-a-side player and have
not played a ‘proper’ game of football since I was 14yrs old –
more years now than I care to remember!
Our team manager, who after a few games, was simply
referred to as, “The Angry Wee Scotsman” decided that we
would look more intimidating to other teams, if we had some
football jerseys, (the theory being that we would look more
professional…….mmmm, debatable). Anyway, despite several

HSEQ Section: DOF Subsea USA Receives Environmental Audit
In preparation of the ISO 14001:2004 certification audit,
the Houston office received a visit from Kai Thomson, an
Environmental Coordinator based in Aberdeen. Kai spent
the majority of his time in Houston auditing the current
Environmental department procedures and documentation
against the ISO 14001 standard allowing him to assist the
HSEQ team in implementing an environmental system. Kai’s
visit proved to be worthwhile for Houston HSEQ as the
department was provided with a detailed audit report which
included recommendations for system development to help
ensure they meet standard requirements.
The DOF Subsea Group will continue preparation for the ISO
14001 certification audit scheduled for the 4th quarter of
2010.

Mobilization in the One of the World’s Most Southern Cities
DOF Subsea USA is currently mobilizing the Skandi Patagonia
in Punta Arenas, Chile, one of the southernmost cities in
the world. The Company has been contracted to provide
positioning services for Benthic Geotech who will be carrying
out a geotechnical investigation for Total in preparation for
the installation of a production platform in the Vega Pleyade
Field in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Benthic Geotech will be
using their Portable Remotely Operated Drill (PROD) which
will be launched from the vessel and controlled though an
umbilical similar to an ROV.
While the Houston staff struggles with the summer heat
nearing 38 °C, Punta Arenas is suffering winter conditions at
-2 °C, 60mph winds and snow showers.

An Arctic Tow-Out
While US colleagues are working on the southern tip of South
America, DOF Subsea Canada is working on the northern
edge of North America at a latitude of N70º. The Company
has been contracted to provide positioning services to extract
the Kulluk Drill Rig through a 10km narrow channel from
McKinley Bay, in the Beaufort Sea, an uninhabited dredged
port once used to winterize drill ships, rigs, and vessels during
the oil boom of the 1980s. The Kulluk is the only floating
Arctic drilling unit of its kind in the world. It was abandoned
for 13yrs in 1993 when drilling interest in the area declined. DOF Subsea Canada were involved with multiple tow-outs
through the channel from 2006 – 2008. This latest extraction
in 2010 will see the Kulluk transiting to Dutch Harbor, Alaska
to be fitted for drilling operations in the US Beaufort Sea.

Employee Appreciation Barbeque
Last September, DOF Subsea USA hosted an employee
appreciation barbeque at a local state park for its employees
and their families to show appreciation of the hard work and
dedication they provide the Company. Families and friends
gathered around picnic tables and enjoyed hamburgers and
hotdogs on the cool summer afternoon. Many employees
participated in football and soccer games while their children
played on the playground located directly across from the
picnic grounds. Though the gathering was surprised by
afternoon rain showers the event turned out to be a success
and was enjoyed by all.

Alan Bevington Speaks at the Hydrographic Society Meeting
This November, Alan Bevington was requested to speak at the
Houston Chapter Hydrographic Society of America Meeting on
his expertise regarding dimensional control at DOF Subsea. The
meeting was well attended by many Houston based Oil and
Gas surveyors along with fellow DSI colleagues. Operators,
contractors and subcontractors met at the Bull and Bear to
gain a further understanding of dimensional control in the Oil
and Gas Construction Industry.

players working for companies such as Chevron, Shell and
BP, it was left up to DOF Subsea to step up to the plate and
provide the necessary sponsorship to get us kick started with
a football strip, some training balls and some well deserved
after match beers, (oops, that should read orange juice).
So, to cut an increasingly long story short, after several months
of un-Scottish like performances, we ended up winning our
Division and being crowned the Division 4 Champions. Our
second season starts in a few weeks, in which we will be
competing in Division 3B, which is two places up from last
season. In some pre-season matches, we have already scared
a few Division 1 teams, so we are quietly hopeful that we will
do well again this season.
On behalf of all of the guys at Quasar Football Club, I would
like to thank DOF Subsea for their past and future support as
they have agreed to sponsor us once again this season.

Active DOF employees
DOF likes to have sporty and healthy employees,
and it is a pleasure to see that we have different
sports arrangements in the company.
DOF spinning
High music, hard work, sweat, joy and laughter are how you
can describe the “DOF-Spinning-classes” that we have at
Storebø every Thursday 15.45 pm. Every Thursday we are 1017 people meeting at the training centre Livsstilsenteret just
across Alfabygget for 45-50 min spinning and 15 of push-ups
and sit-ups.
This Spinning Class, called DOF Spinn, started in Feb 2010
when Livsstilsenteret was opened. I was asked to have a
class for DOF employees. At first people was skeptical over
such a class but a few weeks later we had a lot of people
attending the class. I believe that people really understood the
importance of keeping the body in shape and the fact that by
attending a spinning class you are able to do this without any
difficult movements. Also people can notice that after just a
few times on the bike the degree of fitness just gets better and
better and you are able to perform more. This I can see on the
people attending on a regular basis that their condition has
become better. When we have spent some time on the bike
we have some important floor-work.
For those of you who haven’t attended the DOF- Spinning
class I can try to describe the class.
For me the class consists of four elements: Joy, frustration,
sweat and an explosion of endorphins.
2010
The frustration might be of the fact that you are not able to
perform as much as you would like after a days work you
might be tired and not in the mood for exercise. The good
24
thing here is that is doesn’t take that long of a time before
you are in the mood again! The joy is persistent throughout
the whole class. For a new-beginner the total joy is when you
are done with the class and realizes that you have managed
to full-fill a whole class even though you didn’t think so in the
start. The total joy/ happiness that I hope that everyone feels is
the feeling that the degree of fitness gets better and better.
Throughout the whole class the sweat is all over you. It kind
of feels like you are sweating out all of your problems. The
explosion of endorphins comes and goes throughout the
class. When you are done with the class you feel like a new
person. This I can promise.
The best thing with Spinning is that you are able to decide
how much effort you are to put into the exercise. It is YOU ON
THE BIKE who is in charge of the resistance of the bike, you
decide how hard to work.
Everyone who has attended this class on a regular basis has
done a great work. I know that some of the people attending
at the first class were a bit skeptical about this class, if it would
fit them but as far as I can see they have started to realize
that this is a great way of getting in better shape without any
difficult movements.
I am proud to see that everyone has made progress in getting
in better shape. It is an honor for me to have the opportunity
to have this class for DOF Employees

DOF MC tur til Tangen 11. – 13. juni 2010
hadde i alle fall Tangenodden Camping, i Stange kommune
Management, DOF Sjø og Marin IT.
i folk. Dette medførte at Roar tok veien over Haukeli torsdag
2010
for sponsing).
Men du berømmes
herved for din innsatsvilje.
Pinlig, men i
oppgjør for ruten.
oppførsel i trafikken oppgjennom dalen.
hjuldamper i rutetrafikk.
kjeler i 1983.
330m under havets overflate.

Skandi Sotra,
Skandi Barra, Skandi Vega og Skandi Stord.

in Bergen, a proud lady with Captain Nyrud and his crew
onboard set sail over the North Sea for Invergordon. Little was
she aware at that time that she was about to enter the history
books once again. Only a few weeks after her christening, she
successfully completed the ground-breaking Atlantis project.
Waiting for her in Invergordon was a 1,600-ton tidal turbine
waiting to be loaded. The loading operation required a total
of 9 heavy lifts, several of which were over 208 tons. The parts
were to be carried to Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands then
placed on the seabed in the strong tidal current in the Westray
Firth. At this time of year, the tidal current is meant to be at
its weakest, but it was still around 5 knots! We should also
mention that several boats had tried to carry out this project
earlier, but had to give up the battle against the powerful

Travelogue from Skandi Admiral
We are approaching the end of 2010 and can safely say that
this has been an exciting and eventful year for all the crew
onboard Skandi Admiral.
After sailing on contract for Statoil and Hydro since 2003, our
collaboration with these companies ended on 15 February and
we initially went out onto the spot market at spot rate. After a
period of little work, we experienced an upturn with a number
of assignments in different parts of the North Sea. We worked
both from Aberdeen and Rotterdam. In Rotterdam, we were
fortunate to enjoy some home-made Norwegian waffles in
the Norwegian Church Abroad, Sjømannskirken, and set off
on a good, old-fashioned sightseeing trip with the Norwegian
welfare programme.
After 182 days on a fluctuating spot market and a number
of rumours of a fixed contract, we were finally instructed,
as predicted by many, to sail to Brazil. A long-term contract
with Petrobras had been signed and a new era started for the
Admiral.
This was also the start of a hectic period for many people
in DOF. We were suddenly working on the planning and
preparations for the contract and for new governmental
requirements. After one week at the yard – Fitjar Mekaniske
Verksted – where the crew onboard, the office and shipyard
personnel all worked extremely hard, our ship was declared
ready to meet new challenges in Brazil.
With an excited crew onboard, we set sail for the South
Atlantic, performing the Christening ceremony as we crossed
the equator and other activities which belong to such a
sailing.
We arrived in Rio on 17th of September and were subject to
a whole number of controls by different bodies, from “Port
State” to Petrobras. While all this was going on, a thruster
broke down. This resulted in two hectic weeks during which
the ship was cleared for entry to Brazil and preparations were
made for the Petrobras contract while we were at anchor in
Rio.
2010
As Captain Jostein put it, there was “plenty of mess” at times
and plenty of challenges for everyone onboard. Many of us
had our concerns when the work to extract the thruster engine
32
started, but the process went surprisingly well, thanks to the
extremely hard work of a tired VM Marcilio Barros. We were
fully occupied in making sure that full safety was ensured for
all operations, but taking everything into consideration, we
did very well in a difficult process.
Before signing on in Brazil, all crew members had to undergo
a health check according to Petrobras’ standards. We believe
that this was the same health check Neil Armstrong underwent
when he was getting ready to go to the moon in the 1960s.
They at least had the same amount of advanced equipment.
We have now made good progress on the assignment for
Petrobras. After a breaking-in period, we have found our feet
in Brazil, working with anchor handling, presetting, towing and
heading control. The conditions here are extremely different
from those at home in Norway in terms of communication and
placing orders, but we are working it all out as we go. We are
enjoying life here and getting as much sunshine as we can.
We have taken on a number of new crew members onboard
in the past year, mostly because of the crewing for “Skandi
Vega” and the new AHTS vessels, but the people we have
onboard are all great both at work and socially and we have
been able to sustain the excellent working environment we
have always enjoyed onboard the Admiral. The social and
inclusive environment onboard is most probably a major
reason for so many of the Norwegian crew members wanting
to join us in Brazil.
At the time of writing, the air temperature is around 30
degrees and the sea temperature about 25 degrees. It’s not
that easy to find the Christmas spirit in such a climate, but I’m
sure that will improve once the cook gets started on baking
for Christmas and we turn on our Christmas lights.
Finally, and on behalf of everyone onboard the Admiral, I would
like to thank all those who made our transition to Brazil all the
easier. I would like especially to thank Slobodanka Hermansen
who ran around and sorted out an impressive number of the
requirements we faced in Brazil.
All of us onboard the Admiral would like to wish you all a
VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Travelogue from Skandi Aker
Ariel is creating the nices chairs, tables and whatever from scratch. With
some pieces of wood and some canvas it is now possible to sit and enjoy
some sun after watch.
Even some of the local fauna is finding its way to the offshore
field, biting spiders and acid ants are new to most of the
crew.
The local fishing fleet also comes and visits us on the field
regularly, due to some incidents with drifting nets we now
have a Ghanaian naval attachment guarding us.
Since we have more or less been on the field all the time the
crew has been organizing social events every Saturday. Bingo,
karaoke competitions and quizzes. One of the shifts (Shift 1) is
also very fond of dancing competitions. Events like this create
a good environment onboard and we feel we live up to the
text on our coveralls; “One Team”.
It is probably worth mentioning that we won a little price
called “ship of the year” as well. Some other vessels were
nominated too, but we feel it was well deserved!
Our time in Ghana is coming closer to the end and it will be
very interesting to see where we will end up in 2011.
Best seasons greetings from the crew of Skandi Aker!
2010
The Skandi Aker, the tallest and nicest ship in the fleet was
delivered from the STX yard in Søviknes on the 7th of January.
After the flag change we stayed in the yards in Søviknes and
Langsten to install more equipment before we were ready to
go to work. After some extensive crane testing we had an
open day for the public in Ålesund and well over 2000 people
showed up and they agreed that a vessel like this they had
never seen on Sunnmøre before. All the visitors parked their
cars around the bus terminal and blocked all the traffic there
and since this was during the Icelandic volcano eruption the
police were not too happy.
The vessel is chartered by Aker Oilfield Services. After a short
mobilization for Aker Solutions in Stavanger the vessel headed
for Ghana and has been here ever since.
We are working on the Jubilee field in the western part of
Ghana and are involved in the field development here. We
have been installing the suction piles for mooring of an FPSO,
pressure testing of risers, installing x-mas trees, installing
jumpers, flotell and general ROV operations. We are using
the port of Takoradi as a port for mobilizations. The Port of
Takoradi is mostly used for cocoa beans and the rats at the
quayside are dog sized. And since we are a little newer and
different form the other vessels using the harbor, we get a lot
of attention when in port. And we have a very good tone
with both immigration and with the pilots. They are all quite
happy onboard and are not eager to leave. Quite a few have
asked us for work here as well.
The helicopter deck is in daily use, both for helicopters and
for the crew being lifted up to the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah
every morning. On this project the vessel has been close to
her maximum capacity of 140 crew members most of the
time. We are a mix of DOF, DOF Subsea, AKOFS, AMC, Tullow,
Technip, Kosmos, UTEC and GNPC. Personnel from 21 nations
have been working onboard the Skandi Aker while in Ghana
so we are an international bunch of people.

Travelogue from Skandi Arctic
2010
In September during diving operations campaign, we had
Discovery channel onboard the Skandi Arctic to make a
program about the ship and crew. The program name is
Mighty Ships. A filmteam of 4 persons from Discovery Channel
Canada (Roxana, Chris, Tim, Richard) followed us for three
weeks, and got to see all aspects of the ship operation. They
went all around the ship, and where followed around by the
Statoil Rep Leif. The main focus was the divers in saturation,
but several of our marine crew where also interviewed and
filmed, and will be sort of movie stars when the show comes
on next year. Some of the marine crew found it a bit unusual
to answer personal questions and show excitement of what
for us are normal operations, but we did our best to help the
36
film crew make a good show. Statoil Rep Leif also arranged
with helicopter for the film crew so they could film the vessel
from outside. This was during some very nice days on the
Gullfaks field. Unusual for the time of the year. Some of the
crew where asked to participate with the helicopter filming,
and get a free helicopter ride. We assisted the film crew with
mob boat during transit from Bergen to Haugesund. We all
look forward to the show coming up on the Discovery Channel
next year, and I think and hope this will be very good PR for
both DOF and Technip.
Regards from the Captain and Crew of The Flagship
in the DOF fleet, Skandi Arctic.

To perform the world’s most dangerous job.
you need all the support you can get.
the west of Norway to perform maintenance on a subsea gas
pipeline network 150 meters below the surface.
On the edge of Earth’s final frontier is a new breed of ship.
The saturation dive support vessel. The biggest, the best and
the newest is Skandi Arctic. Consider her the mother ship for a
team of 21st century aquanauts who work deep beneath the
ocean surface on jobs considered, at least on this planet, as
the most dangerous in the world.
Her dive teams will work 24/7 replacing and/or repairing
sensors on the pipeline installations. Their biggest challenge,
while wearing hi-tech dive suits will be to locate, access,
disassemble and then replace the sensors in water temperatures
of 5 degrees Celsius or less. Add in the factors of poor visibility
and cumbersome equipment and every dive will be like trying
to thread a needle in the dark wearing baking mitts.
For 14 days, our Mighty Ship camera team will “live and
breathe” the job of the ship, her crew, and the divers. It will
be a real team effort. While the divers work submerged for
6 hours at a time, Skandi Artics crew must maintain safe
operation of the habitat and the ship over the project site.
From the time the ship arrives in Stavanger, Norway, to the end
of the divers 1st shift when they’re flown off by helicopter, our
cameras will capture in intimate, gritty detail how this state
of the art ship, her determined crew and fearless dive teams
safely perform their amazing and dangerous jobs of repairing a
subsea pipeline. It’s a mighty job for a mighty ship and another
great episode of Mighty Ships.
2010
Up to 24 divers live and breathe in a pressurized habitat on
Skandi Arctics deck that looks like it belongs on Mars. In
fact, it’s the largest, most advanced saturation system afloat!
Twice a day, dive teams are transported below by diving bells
to work exclusively in a dark, dangerous watery world. Each
time they dive they put their lives at risk. If they lose oxygen,
pressure, or heat in their suits, it could be a matter of life or
death. Up on deck, the job of Skandi Arctic’s highly trained
85+ crew is to support the divers to get the job done. hence
the term, saturation dive support ship. For both the divers and
the her crew the stakes are high, the job dangerous, and the
technology they use positively space age.
On this episode of Discovery Channel’s successful,
internationally acclaimed series Mighty Ships, Skandi Arctic
will journey into the North Sea roughly 80-120 kilometers off

The happy ship, Skandi Commander
Present and previous locations this year
So far this year we have been working in the glamorous North
Sea out of Aberdeen.
During this time we have been mainly supplying the rigs Sedco
711 and Sedco 704 in the Central Field with a few trips to
some other installations and FPSO’s in between.
We also got the opportunity to spend a few months from May
until October in Killybegs, Ireland to supply Sedco 711 along
with the Skandi Rona. This was a nice change of scenery for
everyone!
Charterers
2010
For the main part of this year we have been working for Shell.
However in October we were taken off-hire from Shell. After
coming to the spot market we have so far done two jobs,
being hired for 2 one-off jobs by SBS Peterson over in Dutch
sector and TAQA in the North Comorant Field. Needless to say
we experienced some interesting weather, as now the winter is
over us! We are now back in the spot market with our fingers
crossed that we find a job in some warmer waters!
We are all proud to mention that in May the ship received an
award from Shell for having 1000 days without an LTI and was
declared as “the happy ship!” in the Shell fleet.

Dirty Mess Band
Whilst on board the crew decided to spend some of the
welfare money on some musical instruments and start a band!
Therefore some evenings the mess room are transformed in to
a music club, with live performance of the Dirty mess band.
The band is playing tones of soft rock, up to a bit heavier
sounds. And although the Chief Engineer would disagree, we
are getting better. Between Captain, Officers and Engineers
we have an array of singers, guitarists, bass players, drummers
and piano players. Why not book us for your next event?!
The Dirty Mess Band is:
Lead Guitar – Atle Sachs/Stephen Rourke
Guitar/vocals – Leo Narona
Drums –Stephen Rourke/Edelito Trivino
Bass –Samy Casugbo/Victor Panizales
Guitar/Cheerleader – Eddie Taberdo
We would like to wish sincere congratulations to Leo and
his wife on the birth of their healthy baby boy Lucas born
on 11/07/10. He says it has given him more motivation to
progress his career.
Also, 2nd Officer Ramon and his wife are expecting a baby
next year. Congratulations and good luck Ramon!
We have had an enjoyable year here on the Skandi Commander
and look forward to the same success next year!

Travelogue from Geograph
2010
Geograph has sailed to a number of locations in 2010: Pointe
Noire (Congo), Las Palmas, Luanda (Angola) and Bergen
(Norway), working for DOF Subsea Angola and Statnett in
Norway.
Geograph went into dry dock in Las Palmas for a new coat of
red paint so that she resembles all the other DOF vessels, and
is now ready for a new ROV for the contract in Brazil.
I think we win the competition for the highest number of
flags within the DOF fleet. We have changed flag three times
this year, starting with NIS, then the Bahamas and finally the
Cyprus flag. If we continue at this rate, we will soon have
every country in the world written astern our vessel.
We have spent most of the last two years in a warmer climate.
It was therefore somewhat of a surprise for the crew to sail
to Norway and the cold weather there. But it was also nice
42
to the see beautiful scenery of the Hardangefjord in Norway.
After a few days in Norway, most of the crew were talking and
dreaming about the barbeques and sunshine in Las Palmas
and Congo.
In Las Palmas, we spent some of our welfare fund on a day of
sightseeing around the island. This was a great day out, with
good food and beautiful views, and all the crew joined in. The
crew has also been ashore for sightseeing in Pointe Noire; a
beautiful and very calm place and surprisingly safe. We also
arranged a ping pong tournament. The winner was Jose with
Asbjoern in second place, as you can see in the photograph.

the mooring ropes base.

Update from
Skandi Leblon
Skandi Leblon, Oil Rec, MPSV, DP I classed vessel under contract
to Shell Brazil has achieved “Goal Zero” from Shell, results
obtained after one year without LTI, and no environmental
incidents.
After a short stop for maintenance in April 2010, the ship is
heading towards the end of his contract with Shell in March
2011, where entry into dry dock for her docking.
Skandi Leblon began life under contract with Petrobras.
At Shell she had good operational results.
Update from Skandi Rio
2010
Next year the Skandi Rio, one of the most operational AHTS in
Petrobras fleet, will go through the first intermediate docking
after her first three years of good service.
After successful campaigns installing petroleum platforms in
44
the oil fields of Petrobras, in the Brazilian coast, Skandi Rio
will stop for 21 days for in water botton survey clean the hull,
engine maintenance, winches and cargo pumps for 2 more
years before the first dry docking.

Travelogue from Skandi Marstein
North Sea for a job at Bitter well. And we currently dedicated
to them. This would be again difficult for the crew because
winter time was already started. We need some extra securing
on deck and extra care as well if we want to do something.
And now, crew were busy preparing for this years Christmas
day, ABs started to fix some Christmas decors and installing
our little Christmas tree, the cook listed all the best food he
can think of, and the officers organizing a small program for
the crew. Even though we are away from our homes and
loved ones during this day, we are still lucky to have Skandi
Marstein as our second home and to have adopted brothers
onboard whom we can share our stories and life and to spend
Christmas with. Hope that it will be a happy year to end to
each and every one of us.

Skandi Marstein Officers and Crew
2010
2010, is another busy year to be remembered for the crew
of Skandi Marstein. We started this year supplying the twin
drilling rig SEDCO 711 and SEDCO 704.
We have a hectic schedule if we are dedicated to one of these
drilling rig. We stay at port of Aberdeen for only a couple of
hours, and sometimes work late at night on Torry Dock and
depart early morning if one of these rigs has a priority cargo
or equipment. But we just stayed happy and smiling because
we believed that if we are busy, time runs too fast without
knowing we are about to go home.
Then summer time comes, SEDCO 711 leaved North Sea for a
work on Irish waters and Skandi Commander followed them.
They are scheduled to drill one well at Corrib North and then
complete Corrib P2 before it returns to the North Sea. So it
means we have only one rig to have our attention. We are
dedicated to SEDCO 704 until September. After this month
the drilling rig was off from Shell and worked for Premier Oil.
And the ship returned to normal supply operations.
At the middle of October, SEDCO 711 returned to Central

Travelogue from Skandi Neptune
46
2010 has been a year full of challenges and new experiences for
the crew of Skandi Neptune witch is on chart for Subsea7.
The year started busy with projects like Atlantis, Droshky, and
an unscheduled dry dock.
This was followed by a quiet period alongside Mobile
Alabama.
All sailors know the expression; “Quiet before the storm”, and
what a “storm” it turned out to be.
On April the 20th, the drill rig Deep Water Horizon exploded.
11 persons were killed and 17 injured. The Macondo oil well
was out of control. Skandi Neptune was only a few miles away
and went over to assist. The vessel was among the first on
scene and helped in search and rescue.
The 22nd of April, the Deep Water Horizon sank, and Neptune
was quickly mobilized to assist in monitoring and try to control
the well. One of the biggest and most comprehensive sub
sea operations ever seen had just started, and for the next 5
months, live pictures from Skandi Neptune’s ROV were seen
daily in media all over the world.
Her role in the effort of stopping the oil spill was noticed, and
one day the Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy landed on
the helicopter deck. Not all were equally prepared, but the
minister and his camera teams from Norwegian TV got a tour
of the ship.
All parts of the ship and her crew were pushed to the limit
in the 20 weeks of continuous DP and ROV operation, only
interrupted by two days of escaping a tropical storm.
Finally, on the 15th of July the leak was stopped, and in the end
of August another big step were taken, when the “Hydrostatic
Top Kill” was a success. Skandi Neptune was released from the
Hydrostatic Top Kill
field the 11th of October for final decontamination in Mobile
and Tampa.
At time of writing this, Skandi Neptune is back to “normal”
operation, carrying out sub sea construction and umbilical lay
at Green Canyon for Anadarko.
Skandi Neptune was earlier this year awarded a new 3-year
contract for Subsea7.
She is scheduled to sail to Norway by the end of 2010, and the
crew look forward to a visit back “home” for scheduled dry
dock and fitting of new offshore crane early next year.
And with this, the crew onboard Skandi Neptune would like
to wish all a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year with Fair
Winds and Following Seas.

DOF Management Argentina
The year 2010 has seen some changes in DOF Argentina, with
the arrival of Gustavo Nordenstahl as General Manager, as
well as of Mauro Ferrantelli as responsible for Purchasing.
The former manager, Daniel Karp has decided to go back to
sea, which he has done quite a lot lately on board Skandi
Patagonia as DPO. The former position in Purchasing was
performed by Lando Verardo, who has left DOF to concentrate
on finishing his engineering graduate course at the university.
We are planning a happy hour on board Gustavo´s boat early
next month to celebrate the end of the winter and the arrival
of warm weather, to which also the local shore staff of diving
sub contractor Mohn Drilling AS have been invited, together
with the Master of Skandi Patagonia that happens to be on
shore leave.
Kind regards, Gustavo

Greetings from ministers to seamen
”For a child has been born for us, a son given to us,
Authority rest upon his shoulders, and he is named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Fader, Prince of Peace”
2010
This is the word, and this is how Isaiah prophecy is announced
for us. We do not need that much special explanation, with
powerful words we know why Jesus come to this world.
There is many things that move us in the Christmastime. We
have all our traditions, all those things we have to do to get
the right Christmas feeling. And we all do as good as we can
for the Christmas to be good days with good memories for
us.
All this around us, the “nice Christmas paper” put us in the
right mood, and we are more predisposed, we listening, we
are looking forward, and we get the hope for many good
days.
And the word hope is the word that helps us to see in to
the future. The hope shall help us and give us power for the
48
day tomorrow. The hope is the creating for us all. In the Bible
the hope is something vi do not see. It is to look forward in
something we can’t see.
Just the hope is what we see in the Christmas. Then it
happened, the word we sometime use, “as long as there is
live, there is hope” are turned into “as long as there is hope,
there is life” The hope, which come to us in Christmas, is the
hope that can give us courage and expectation when we look
in to the future. The Christian hope is not empty expatiation,
but is connected to the almighty God who has created us and
who loves us.
It is our greatest whish that we all will find this hope when the
Christmas carols will be singing, when the Christmas light are
burning, and the Christmas gospel get in to us.
We in The Norwegian Seamen’s Church will thank you all for
the good hospitality when we get onboard, and wish you all a
merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Best wishes from Morten Høst,
Ole Dagfinn Sky and Jostein Handal
